Of Gunslingers and Targets

2016 by David v. GOLIATH [b0]

If you live in an apartment in Los Angeles and you are a senior citizen or legally disabled/handicapped,
and especially if you are considered to be on low income in a rent controlled building, you probably think that you
are pretty safe from losing your home. Chances are that you are much closer to losing everything you value than
you would expect. Please consider this to be your fair warning because the BULLIEs and gunslingers are not
very likely to give you one. The fact is that, if you meet the above qualifications and live there for long enough,
something of the sort will most probably happen to you eventually. When that does occur, it will undoubtedly be
too late to try and read this in time to get ready for it then.
Many an old movie depicts the following scenario: Back in the days of the Wild West, the Rich, Greedy
Rancher tries to buy out the smaller homesteaders in order to take over their holdings so he can increase his
own spread. The idea, of course, is to graze more cattle to sell for higher profits. There's always a holdout who
won't sell, so the RGR tries to drive him away through various nefarious means, but fails at every attempt. So
finally he puts out the word that he's in the market for someone to get rid of this major obstacle for him.
For the right price, a professional gunman or two show up to compete for the reward. They naturally pull
out all the stops and do anything that it takes to get rid of him, no matter what. With the deck stacked against
him, the victim has little to no chance of surviving the assault. The only choice he has is either to run or make his
final stand and die fighting for his life against all odds.
Now this is the point in the movie when the hero shows up in the nick of time to tip the balance of the
scales in favor of justice by helping to win the battle. Such is the plot of plenty of movies, and not necessarily just
westerns. They are all based on real life occurrences, except for the hero part, which provides the ideal movie
ending, but is not so likely to occur in real life.
Fast-forward to today, and you may be surprised to discover that in reality, this story is still happening
abundantly all over the country, throughout the state, this county, and believe it or not, right here in in the city of
Los Angeles. As shocking as it may seem, it is taking place all around you right now. Of course, it is mostly
happening to people you don't know who live right in your neighborhood.
But here is the scary part. If you live where there is rent control, you probably think that will protect you
from something like that happening to you. Most likely you believe that you don't have to worry about illegal rent
raises or unfounded evictions or landlord harassment because you are not breaking any laws or breaching your
rental contract. You undoubtedly are under the misimpression that the law will keep you safe from such
violations by the owner.
The shocking truth is that in reality the exact opposite is the case! All of those things are precisely what
makes you a primary target for the Bad Unscrupulous LandLord Imposter, Embezzler & Extortionist (aka
BULLIEE,) and/or his bushwhacking gunslinger (aka property management company.) The longer you have lived
there, the bigger the bullseye on your back has become.
You say you've lived in apartments and never had that problem with an owner before. Maybe this same
owner never gave you any trouble before, either, other than being hard to reach and not getting around to doing a
minor repair or two. Maybe you've even lived here for years without difficulties before.
Keep in mind that the above BULLIEE description is not the definition of a real landlord, but rather a
modern day, new breed of outlaw that is slowly but surely taking over more and more properties. Namely a
greedy, scheming, premeditating white collar criminal disguising himself as a landlord because it's so amazingly
easy to get away with robbing unsuspecting tenants just like you!

A few neglected repairs are just the beginning. You don't even have to move to become victimized,
because they are buying up buildings left and right. One day you may begin to realize that living in your home is
becoming more and more difficult, and you start thinking about the possibility of moving again. That is exactly
what they are trying to get you to do in order to save the cost of forcing you out. That way they can claim they
are following the law and can legally jack up the rent as much as they want on your unit, and also collect another
deposit to steal on top of that.
There is no shame associated with being a target, because it is a no-fault situational occurrence. It is not
up to the bullet-dodger, but rather to the trigger-puller, and that is entirely dependent upon which way they
choose to aim their weapon. Happening to be in their sights is not something that anyone else has any control
over. So you should never feel like it's a deficit on your part. Your only obligation is to try taking steps to shield
yourself and your family as much as possible from being struck.
If you meet the qualification of a potential primary target as described in the first sentence, and you're not
prepared for that eventuality, you are in jeopardy. This is especially true if you put up a strong resistance, and
when they finally get around to cutting you out of the herd and focusing their attention on you, watch out! The
myth of protection of the law will come as a startling surprise. All the law can do is just to give you a way to try to
get compensation after the fact for what they will put you through. Even trying to use it for that can cause you a
lot more pains than gains, and won't stop them from continuing to do it to you first.
Wake up and smell what's growing out there, and you'll soon discover that you don't live in a rose garden
after all. There are steps you can take to avoid this becoming your sad story as it has been to many other
unsuspecting tenants before you, and will continue to be for more after you. Those steps should start before you
even go looking for an apartment. This is one time that a few ounces of prevention can be worth a ton of cure.
The first step, however, is to become aware of what is going on around you right here where you live. Until you
do that, you can't begin to prepare for it.
The purpose of this report is not to advise you about how to prepare, but hopefully to help open your eyes
to the need for it and the main causes of that need. Some of that advice and defensive information is available
from links near the bottom of our Alternate Home Page. It, too, is quite abundant and takes some effort to follow,
but can be well worth that effort the amount is up to you.
People are gradually becoming more aware of the increasing number of criminals pretending to be
landlords, but are not so mindful of the growing number of their henchmen. In fact, those afore mentioned
bushwhacking sidekicks have become so abundant that they can now be considered a complimentary industry of
their own, and an even more aggressive alternate source of attack.
These gunslingers, or property management companies, as they like to call to themselves, have become
a force to be reckoned with in their own right, and are significantly contributing to the problem. They have
learned all the same tricks of the crooked landlord trade and even added some of their own to the collection.
Unlike the owners, they don't have to bear the full burden of the risk of restitution themselves because
they know that lies with the owners who must shoulder the brunt of it, so they are more likely to be more blatant
about their actions. Despite the fact that they are in competition with each other, they still share the same
information among themselves.
Their claims to be able to generate more income for their clients and to relieve them of having to deal with
tenants directly are a result of those actions. That saves the owners some of the guilt that could hold them back
from doing it personally, and also lures in some who might otherwise not even consider doing any illegal activities
on their own. The more money they make for their clients, the more profits they reap for themselves. Also, this
share the penalties concept helps to make them feel less responsible for what they do.
When you take into consideration that the more people involved who share the profits, the more people
have to be victimized to pay for them, and you can see why this whole business of Renter Robbery is getting
further and further out of hand. This is only going to continue to increase until enough people get hurt to force
the action necessary to cause changes that eventually will have to be made to put a stop to it. That is the kind of
development that has been known to bring about revolutions. That time may be on the verge of arriving here.
The fact is that unfettered greed ultimately will bring about its own demise, because it must eventually go
beyond the ability of its victims to tolerate, and it is always beyond the ability of its perpetrators to control.
In closing you should be aware that the employment of a management company for the property where
you live is definitely not a sign that the pressure to extract more money from the residents is likely to be reduced.
So don't be surprised when it escalates, or when it encompasses you despite the fact that you had nothing to do
with it and did absolutely nothing wrong. That is just the nature of what they do.
If you would care to look up any of them online, you will find some that have managed to keep their ratings
and comments to an unbelievable bare minimum. But if you ever find one that claims an overall positive approval
from the actual tenants, you can be quite sure that it has been faked. If that could ever really be the case, then
they are just NOT doing their job, and wouldn't be in business for long. Check it out for yourself.
