RAN971 HSUPA Downlink Physical Channel Power Control

Motivation and Benefits
Brief description:
This feature introduce power control for following downlink physical control
channels:
E-DCH Absolute Grant Channel (E-AGCH)
E-DCH Relative Grant Channel (E-RGCH)
E-DCH Hybrid ARQ Indicator Channel (E-HICH)
Fractional Dedicated Physical Channel (F-DPCH)
Controlling the transmit powers of the HSUPA downlink control channels based on
the feedback received from UE
Motivation and benefits:
Reduction of average downlink power need
The coverage area for 2ms E-DCH TTI
may be increased

RAN971 HSUPA Downlink Physical Channel Power Control

Feature Dependencies(2/2)
Recommendation:
Using together with RAN 1644 Continuous Packet Connectivity
Interdependencies:
RAN 2124 HSPA 128 users per cell (scheduler) requires RAN971 otherwise
128 users can not be achieved.
RU20 and earlier RAN:

Power in HSUPA Downlink Physical Channel is controlled through Power

Offsets between HSUPA DL channels and CPICH or DPCCH. This approach
assure that channels are properly received by UE.

RAN971 HSUPA Downlink Physical Channel Power Control

Power Offsets
Inner and outer loop algorithms will deliver a
power reference value(Pref )
Outer loop on basis of ACK/NACK
provides value of power which is required
to maintain quality of communication
at the required level
Inner loop adjusts value of power to
current radio condition

Transmitted power for particular

DL physical control channels is
calculated taking into account as well
power offsets for DL HSUPA channels:

RAN971 HSUPA Downlink Physical Channel Power Control

Performance Monitoring
New KPIs presented by feature:
a) HSUPA DL Power utilization distribution (x% .. y%)= Average HSUPA DL control
channel power per user utilization in class x
b) Average HSUPA DL power per user = average power of HSUPA DL control
channels / average number of HSUPA users

Performance improvements could be verified by KPIs and counters

related to:
HSDPA Throughput
DL Power Utilization
Number of CS Voice over HSPA users
