EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Background
Chronic pancreatitis (CP) is characterized by irreversible damage to the pancreas, development
of histological evidence of inflammation and fibrosis, which eventually leads to destruction of
the exocrine (acinar cell) and the endocrine (islets of Langerhans) tissue.
Because many patients report of unexplained abdominal pain, the symptom eludes timely
diagnosis of Chronic Pancreatitis. Hence, the prevalence of the disease remains unknown. It is
interesting to note that India is home to a large population of patients suffering with Chronic
Pancreatitis, especially the population from the southern part of the country. However, in
western countries, in a population of 100, 000, generally, 8 to 10 cases are reported per year,
which if compared to Indian population (114-200 cases per year) is a miniscule number.
Of the many causes of Chronic Pancreatitis, alcohol consumption is majorly linked with this
disease, except for Tropical Calcific Pancreatitis (TCP), a juvenile form of chronic calcific nonalcoholic pancreatitis and is exclusively reported in the developing countries of the tropical
world. Tropical Calcific Pancreatitis is more prevalent and constitutes more than two-thirds of
causes of Chronic Pancreatitis in India. And the mean age of onset of the disease is observed as
24 years -affecting more male than female population.
The pathophysiology of tropical pancreatitis is unknown. Protein-calorie malnutrition, deficiency
of trace elements and micronutrients, and dietary factors including cassava (tapioca) predispose
to the disease. On the other hand, Chronic Pancreatitis is quite fatal in nature. Overall, 10-year
survival is about 70%, and 20-year survival is about 45%. Besides posing threat of pancreatic
cancer in 40 per cent of patients diagnosed with Chronic Pancreatitis, it may also cause other
complications such as pseudocyst, common bile duct obstruction, fistulas and diabetes.
Genesis of the herbo mineral formulation (HMF)
Nearly four decades before Meerut based Vaidya Chandra Prakash formulated a complex compound
using copper, mercury and sulphur following the guidelines laid down in Rasa Shastra. Coincidently,
this formulation was administered to a terminally ill young patient of pancreatic cancer who
miraculously recovered and enjoyed 38 years of disease free survival. Though this formulation
worked for a few patients suffering with pancreatic cancer; it was found effective in treating patients
of Chronic Pancreatitis. Eventually patient inflow increased from a few to many from 1997. To retrace
the success of this treatment protocol, a detailed analysis of the patient data was done in 2014. It was
found that out of 56 patients 32 treated using this herbo-mineral formulation completed over a year
treatment and are leading a symptom free life.
Step forward
Based on the empirical success of herbo-mineral formulation in the treatment of Chronic
Pancreatitis, the treatment protocol was discussed with scientists and policy makers in presence
of beneficiaries patients in an event organized in November 2014 at Dehradun. Following the
recommendations made by experts, Honble Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Shri Harish Rawat
agreed to extend logistic and financial support towards the scientific development of this
formulation under the aegis of Uttrakhand State Council of Science & Technology (UCOST).
In lieu with the announcement, a project called Development of Herbo Mineral Formulation
(HMF) for Chronic Pancreatitis was launched in January 2014. The proceedings of this event

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
received wide media attention and soon after the event, distressed patients and their families
approached our Centre in Dehradun. In this report, we present first hundred cases those who
registered for Ayurvedic treatment. Our 100th case, enrolled in March 2015, is 10 years old; his
name is Karthik, a resident of Australia.
Data Collection and Case Studies
All these patients who approached us were diagnosed of CP by doctors of repute employed
with world-class hospitals across the country. Modern diagnostic tools and parameters such
as USG, ERCP, MRCP, EU and other were deployed to make accurate diagnosis. During the time
of medical review by our team, it was found that most of these patients had either received
conventional treatment for a year or more and were in a fragile physical and mental state.
In this report, we present the data collected from 1997 till May 2015.
58 patients enrolled during 1997 to 2014
42 patients enrolled during December 2014 to May 2015
A giant leap: on the way to scientific development
Even though CP can be managed using conventional medical aid, it however, remains a huge
challenge for the medical fraternity to treat it completely. Till date no known cure of CP has been
reported. In such a scenario, the herbo-mineral formulation developed by VCP Cancer Research
Foundation (VCPCRF) in the treatment of CP has been found sustainable with no side-effects.
It will take approximately 7 years to near a logistic conclusion from the state sponsored project
Development of HMF in the treatment of CP, a project based on the principles of reverse
pharmacology. Meanwhile, protocol based Ayurvedic treatment is being made available to
patients under close observation and long term follow-up as per the guidelines of good clinical
practices.
A preliminary analysis is being carried out at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and
IIT Roorkee to test if the end product turns into a compound of oxidized minerals and has no
trace of free metal. During the first three years, the multi-step drug processing will documented
using scientific tools like particle size analyzer to standardize the process from grinding to
programmed muffle furnacesto provide control heating and non-destructive analysis after
each stepto understand the sequence of changes as well as to set up benchmark standards.
These are all essential steps for reproducibility and future industrial production.
In the second stage, safety studies (acute, sub-acute and chronic) will be carried out on rats
and mice. In earlier studies, no Grade II toxicity (unpublished data) was reported. Herewith, a
systematic safety study will be carried in collaboration with competent institutes. Finally, multicentric randomized controlled clinical trial will be carried at the State and National level to
merge the benefits of traditional wisdom of Ayurveda into mainstream medicine. I am sure that
such efforts are very much needed to take this innovative treatment to the masses.

PREFACE
Chronic disease is a long-lasting condition that can be controlled but not
cured. Persistence of these diseases brings enormous financial and
emotional stress to an individual and the whole family. Chronic
Pancreatitis (CP) is one such emerging disease which is diagnosed with
inflammation of the pancreas that does not heal or improve, worsen over
time and leads to permanent damage. CP eventually, impairs ability to
digest food and to make pancreatic hormones, and sometimes result in diabetes or pancreatic
cancer. Incidence of CP in India has reached to an alarming situation where almost 114/100000
people in Southern part has been reported as compared to 3.5-10/100000 of developed countries.
CP often develops in the most productive age group of 30-40 years, and is more common in men
than women (4:1).
The most miserable is the fact that there is no known cause and cure for CP in modern medicine.
Patients are generally given pain killers, pancreatic enzymes or insulin for life long as preventive
measure of severity of disease. However, a herbo-mineral formulation (HMF) prepared with Cu, Hg
and S and some herbs by Vaidya Balendu Prakash has shown remarkable success for complete and
sustainable treatment of CP. Vaidya Balendu claims that toxicological studies carried out on mice
have shown its non-toxic nature and processing of metals following the principles of Ras-shastra
indeed has a role to play in detoxifying the harmful effects of raw Cu, Hg and S. The intrigue
chemistry of HMF largely remains unknown so far. Recently, the Government of Uttarakhand has
taken note of this innovation and funded a seven year project, Development of Herbo-Mineral
Formulation for Chronic Pancreatitis to Vaidya Ji. This project is being done following the
approach of reverse pharmacology at VCP Cancer Research Foundation, Dehradun, under the
aegis of Uttarakhand State Council of Science & Technology (UCOST).
The evidence is required to prove an idea or concept or even a system. Council is of the opinion
that Ayurvedic drug discovery system need to integrate with modern scientific tools and
techniques for its evidence based global promotion. Robust documentation of clinical observations
for Ayurvedic formulations and publication of clinical data need to be encouraged in order to make
a strong foundation of Ayurvedic drug promotion. Curative effects of HMF in well diagnosed
approximately 110 patients of CP have been observed and documented by Vaidya Ji for decades in
his clinical practice. Council is extremely happy to learn that Vaidya Ji is publishing a booklet on his
efforts towards treatment of chronic pancreatitis using HMF.
Council wishes him and his team all the success in future endeavors.

CHRONIC PANCREATITIS

Source: The Sol Goldman Pancreatic Cancer Research Center, Baltimore, USA.

Chronic Pancreatitis (CP) is an inflammatory disease of the pancreas with irreversible

morphologic changes. It is characterized by moderate to severe pain in the upper abdomen
radiating to middle of the back associated with nausea, vomiting, weakness and weight loss.
Such symptoms might last from hours to two days and eventually could be continuous as the
condition get worse. Inflammation of the pancreas that does not heal, worsens over time and
leads to permanent damage. It occurs when digestive enzymes attack the pancreas and nearby
tissues, causing episodes of pain. It often develops in people who are between the age of 30
and 40. The symptoms may mimic Pancreatic Cancer as well.
CP is a global disease and studies depict that the incidences are increasing worldwide. CP occurs
more often in men than in women and the condition often develops in people of age 30-40.
However, there are cases where the onset of CP may occur even at a very young age.
The chronic form of pancreatitis can be triggered by one acute attack that damages the pancreatic
duct. The damaged duct causes the pancreas to become inflamed. Scar tissue develops and the
pancreas is slowly destroyed.

MAPPING CHRONIC PANCREATITIS

According to available literature, chronic

pancreatitis was first described in Kerala, a
southern state in India and most of the cases
have been reported from the southern states
Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
However, our patient data reports incidences of
the diseases from many parts of the country.

UNSAID FACTS ABOUT CP

Before starting Ayurvedic treatment, case history was collected for all the
patients enrolled during 1997-2015. Some of our observations revealed
interesting facts that helped in better understanding of the disease. While a
few clinical observations were similar to what we already know; a few added to
our existing knowledge.
For example, it is well-known that it is the alcoholics who develop chronic
pancreatitis. However, our clinical observations suggest that most of the
patients enrolled with us were vegetarians, non-alcoholic and non-tobacco
users.
Recently, Vitamin D3 deficiency in Indian population has been reported widely.
In February 2015, we also screened patients for Vitamin D3 levels in their
blood. Surprisingly, 90 percent of these patients showed deficiency. Though a
few scientific studies* have attempted to study this aspect, the link between
Vitamin D deficiency and chronic pancreatitis is still not well understood.

OUR OBSERVATIONS
Enrolment of Patient (2014-2015)

Encouraging trend: a large number of patients want to get better and are
opting for Ayurvedic treatment.

In early years, CP patients were being treated with Ayurvedic formulations for long years.
Gradually, the duration of Ayurvedic treatment has been customized for one year. It is found
effective in relieving symptoms of patients as well as in bringing significant change in their
quality of life.

45 patients out of 100 have completed one year of treatment

and others are also showing significant improvement in their
condition.

OUR OBSERVATIONS
It was also interesting to see that soon after an event Path of Innovation that was organized
at Dehradun in November 2014 to create awareness about the disease; there was a significant
rise in the number of patients who aspired for Ayurvedic treatment for CP. Here is a glimpse of
progress report 100 cases from 1997 to 2015.

Available statistics indicate that the life expectancy of a majority of the patients suffering with
Chronic Pancreatitis is about 9 years with moderate to severe physical and mental debility.

But after being put on herbo mineral Ayurvedic

formulations, a significant improvement was seen
in the quality and span of life among CP patients.
It is a proud moment to share that our first patient
who enrolled in 1997, has completed 18 years of
symptoms free life. He is now leading a normal and
a healthy life.

GENESIS
GENESIS OF HERBO MINERAL AYURVEDIC FORMULATION FOR CP:
AN INCIDENTAL DISCOVERY

Vaidya Chandra Prakash

Meerut-based Vaidya Chandra Prakash was a master of Rasa Shastra, who

in his clinical practice used Ayurvedic medicines prepared at his residence
under the able guidance of his Guru Maharaj ji. He used to put his
intuitions into practice and developed many new formulations in his life
time. In 1973, one of his herbo-mineral formulations brought miraculous
recovery to a terminally ill patient of pancreatic cancer. Thereafter, the
same formulation completely cured many patients suffering with Chronic
Pancreatitis. Though these evidences were documented, it was only in
1997; it was done meticulously.

Following the data obtained from the clinical observations, details of

those 45 patients who have completed Ayruvedic treatment,
is presented here.

DEMOGRAPHIC CP PATIENT PROFILEI

Age of Patients (7 to 70 yrs)

Age

(n=45)

Patients

Among the 45 patients, who completed Ayurvedic treatment, the

oldest patient was 70 years old and the youngest was a 7-year old.

17

DEMOGRAPHIC CP PATIENT PROFILEII

Sexual Distribution (4:1)
(n=45)

20%
Female

80%
Male

Most of these patients nearly 80 percent of

them were men, matching with what is known
from medical literature.

Alcohol Vs Idiopathic
(n=45)

42 out of these 45 patients

were non-alcoholic and only
3 were alcoholic. This data is
interesting to note because
Chronic Pancreatitis is known
as a disease that inflicts
alcoholics.

18

DEMOGRAPHIC CP PATIENT PROFILEIII

Radiological Diagnostics (n=45)

It was found that all these patients were diagnosed using

modern diagnostic tools. 17 patients were diagnosed
through MRCP and 12 through ERCP. Given that, CP is
difficult to diagnose, MRCP and ERCP are better diagnostic
tests over CT scan and USG.

Frequency of Attacks (n=45)

It was observed that 12 out of 45 patients opted for Ayurvedic

treatment after two attacks, including the ones who suffered
one, three or multiple attacks. It is indicative that many of these
patients resorted to Ayurvedic treatment.

19

CONFIRMED DIAGNOSIS

I now lead a disease
free life.
--Ankur Agarwal
I was 32 when my pancreas was mildly affected after I contracted chicken pox. And on one fine
morning I woke up with severe abdominal pain followed by vomiting. This was how I developed
chronic pancreatitis.
After being treated at the Orthonova hospital by Dr Manoj Sharma, I got discharged on the 8th day.
But I kept feeling mild pain every 2-3 months. I consulted many doctors in Delhi. But not a single
doctor assured me of a permanent cure to chronic pancreatitis. Instead doctors told me chronic
pancreatitis was a life threatening disease and some doctors even told me that a person with this
disease could live up to 9 years.
Days passed and on 8 October, 2014, I got another major attack and found myself in the ICU in
Max hospital, Saket. Dr Vivaan Talwar was treating me. I got discharged after undergoing same
treatment as last time. I was still recovering the second attack, when again on 4 December, 2014
I had my third major attack. This time I was admitted in Medanta hospital in Gurgaon Haryana,
under the supervision of Dr Radhir Sud, a renowned name in gastroenterology. There also I
underwent all the investigations and reporta confirmed that calcification in my pancreas had
increased compared to last scans. Same treatment was repeated and I got discharged after 4-5
days, with the same instructions in the discharge summary eat zero fatty food, take small meals.
I spent hours on internet searching treatment for CP all over the world. I read many blogs and
comments on many websites to find out the permanent cure to this problem. But I could not find
even a single person, doctor or hospital saying that they have overcome this problem. Rather I read
a person could not live more than 7-9 yrs.
Amidst all this, a few of my friends insisted to try Ayurveda. Though I was not convinced I made a
Google search and came across a website www.ayurvedapancreatitisclinc.com. After reading all
the testimonials on this website, I felt convinced and next day, I made an appointment at this Centre
in Dehradun.
On 7 January, 2015, I got admitted at Padaav in Dehradun. At Padaav, the in-house treatment is
based on simple living and healthy living. And it was wonderful to see Vaidya Shabnam ji take
personal care of each patient. Since then I have completed three months of Ayurvedic treatment.
I have regained my health and confidence and carry my normal duties both at home and work.

10 years ago, I was hospitalized for severe pain in abdomen, thats the first time I got to know
about the pancreas organ. The doctors diagnosed me with Pancreatitis. Over the years many
visits to Gastroentrologist, didnt give any confident answer for the cure. I contacted renowned
gastroentrologist across the globe, one answer no cure. Later, I was diagnosed with stones in
the pancreatic duct. Even after removal of stones I got a couple of attacks -- and started living
an uncertain life, fearing the attacks.
When I had a mild attack recently, I started searching again. With luck on my side, I came across a
website: www.padaav.com. I was more than excited to learn through this website that a cure for
Chronic Pancreatitis was available. Without wasting much time I immediately contacted Vaidya
Shabnamji, who assured that my disease was curable. I was fortunate to have met Padma Shri
Vaidya Balendu Prakash in Bangalore. After meeting Vaidyaji, my confidence grew and within 15
days I went to Padaav Treatment Center in Dehradun.
From the first day, hospitality was amazing. Individual care was given utmost prominence
from what we eat, what we do and how we respond. Special thanks to Vaidya Shikha Prakash,
who took special care of patients. After 20 days of in-house Ayurvedic treatment based on the
priniciples of Rasa Shastra, I am feeling healthy, confident, and living with a healthy life. If you
are suffering from Pancreatitis, this treatment is like finding oasis in the middle of desert. Its not
worth suffering, to live in pain but live a fear free life. Good Luck!!

Seventeen years long pain free
survival after being diagnosed
for Chronic Pancreatitis.
--Amit Garg
In 1991, I had sudden bout of abdominal pain and vomiting. My family rushed me to MBS Medical
College at Kota in Rajasthan. There I underwent a laparotomy and was diagnosed for Acute
Haemorrhagic Pancreatitis. After four months, I again suffered abdominal pain. I consulted Dr S K
Sarin at G B Pant Hospital in Delhi. After examination I was told about formation of pseudo cyst in my
pancreas. Dr Adarsh Chaudhary removed that cyst. Afterwards, I I remained well for six years.
In 1997, I developed Diabetes Mellitus. An ultra sound and MRI showed calcification and multiple
stones in my pancreas. I also had three to four episodes of mild abdominal pain and indigestion. I
tried with few consultants but didnt get any relief. At this juncture, some family friends suggested
me to consult Vaidya Balendu Prakash at Dehradun.
I started Ayurvedic treatment with Vaidya ji from 31/03/1998. He gave me few of his own prepared
medicines with dietary advice. I responded well and my symptoms came back to normal. I continued
these medicines for three years on daily basis. I have got major relief in my digestion and abdominal
pain. I didnt notice any side effect of given treatment. However, I still continue to suffer with Diabetes
Mellitus (Type II) and calcification and stones in my pancreas remain as it is. (No progression)
Today (25th June, 2015), I met Vaidya ji after many years. I am very happy to see many patients of
chronic pancreatitis being treated at his campus. I am also very glad to know about the ongoing
drug development programme on Chronic Pancreatitis with the help of Department of Science and

My husband Mr. Vikas Binani (Age 41 years) was diagnosed with Acute on Chronic Pancreatitis in
May 2013. In this span of one and a half year he was hospitalized many times and lost about 30 kg.
The whole family was in the state of mental trauma due to his deteriorating health day by day and in
course of time, there were other complications too.
At this critical juncture, my father-in-law happened to meet Shri R.S. Agarwal ji (Joint Chairman of
Emami Group) and shared his mental agony with him. Shri Agarwal spoke very high about Vaidya
Balendu Prakash of Dehradun. Without losing any time, Shri Agarwal asked us to meet Vaidya Shikha
Prakash (D/o Vaidya Balendu Prakash) at AMRI Hospital. He assured all of us that Vikas would be
completely cured.
We met Vaidya Shikha on the 20th December, 2014 at AMRI. She patiently replied to all our queries
after examining the patient. She also explained her line of treatment and sounded very optimistic.
There was a ray of hope and we decided to switch over to Ayurveda from Allopath.
He was admitted for 21 days in AMRI under the supervision of Vaidya Shikha Prakash. His stay at AMRI
was a phase of ups and downs, but Vaidya Shikha was so very positive, dedicated and confident that
the results were indeed encouraging.
She was available 24x7 and looked into the details very minutely. She counseled not only the patient
but each one of us. She laid emphasis on Protein based diet. There is a list of Dos and Donts which
we are supposed to follow.
As on this day my husband has completed 4 months of ayurvedic treatment. He has gained 11 kg
weight and its indeed encouraging to see that USG and Blood reports are nearly normal now.
For this myself and my family would like to thank Vaidya Shikha and of course our heartfelt gratitude
for Shri R.S Agarwal ji.
We are at loss of words to express our feelings and gratitude but a big thank you from all of us.

I am 29 years old, a government employee. From past 4 years, I had been suffering from chronic
calcified pancreatitis and was undergoing allopathic treatment. Medication included Creon 25000
TDS and pantaprazole OD.
I read about Vaidya Balendu Prakash ji through internet on March 2014 and reported in Padaav
Ayurveda Centre at Dehradun on 29 June 2014. Before reporting I got my blood test done on 06
June 2014 wherein results were alarming, I was diagnosed with high blood sugar fasting : 185 , PP:
275 and I started taking 01 tab Pioglit MF15 to control my sugar level as per doctors advice Uric acid:
8.2 Triglycerides : 190. These reports made me rush to Vaidyaji.
On the day of reporting i.e. 29 June 2014 I was counselled by the staff and was assured that my
pancreatitis and diabetes originated due to pancreatitis will subside and get fully cured and my
medication got started along with regularised six meal diet and special ayurvedic medicine in-house
treatment. Most important was my Creon 25000 tablet which I was told by allopathy doctors to take
life-long was stopped from day 1.
I took in-house treatment for 14 days at Vaidyajis hospital and then returned back to my job. I followed
the directives of medicine and diet strictly thereafter. After one month of Ayurvedic medication I got
my blood test done again and I was astonished to see the result. Report is as follows:
Sugar Fasting: 90, PP: 116, Triglycerides: 124, Uric acid: 4.3
My allopathic medicine for sugar was converted to half tablet of Mopaday HS once a day which is
1/4th the power of Pioglit. On 03 September again I got the blood test done and again my results are
normal. Now I have been directed by Vaidyaji to stop Mopaday HS totally. I am undergoing treatment
of Vaidyaji and I have found it miraculous and very effective. Next, I am waiting to see the result of my
chronic calcified pancreatitis getting cured and I am sure that will also happen soon. I cannot reveal

my daily meals. I weighed fifty four kg at that time. In Nov2013, I was 51 years, when for the
first time I developed severe pain in my upper abdomen and back. I consulted Dr. Gulab Gupta
(Physician) who advised to done a CT SCAN and ENDOSOCOPY. After diagnosed he found that
its a ULCER and treatment started by them. I continued taking alcohol and cigarettes during the
treatment.
After ten days, I became seriously ill with severe abdominal and back pain. I was hospitalized in
MAX Hospital under concerned with Dr.M. Moitra (M.D) for a week. I was diagnosed as a patient
of Acute Pancreatitis. Later i consulted Dr. Sain Gupta (M.D, D.M Gastroenterology). However, I
had no respite from the episodic attack of abdominal pain and back pain. By this time, I had lost
nearly 10Kg weight in two months. In Feb 2014 I suffered again with severe attack of pancreatitis.
MRCP was done, peripancreatic mesenteric fat stranding and calcification in pancreatic duct
was seen .USG bulky pancreas with dilated MPD and CBD with prominent central IHBR, but my
problem continued to persist.
In Mar2014, I was bought to Dr. Deepak Lahoti (Senior Gastroenterologist) at GUCT & LIVER

13th Aug14. There I was treated with some of his ayurvedic medicine with three meals and three
snacks in a day with complete mental and physical rest. At the onset of ayurvedic treatment my
body weight was fifty kg.
I experienced wonderful effect of this treatment on my body. Within days, my appetite improved.
I started feeling lightness in the body and gradual gain in body weight .I returned back to my
home on 3rd Sep 14 with one month medicine and continued this treatment for six month
regularly. During this period my weight increased to fifty six kg.
I am still in contact with Vaidya ji and his associate Vaidyas at Dehradun. I also take these
medicines occasionally for a short period through I dont have any symptom of the disease. I did
not experience any side effect of ayurvedic treatment. I run my business and lead an active life
in Delhi. I am very thankful of Vaidya Balendu Prakash Ji. I have no hesitation to state that I got
an active life again through Vaidhya jis treatment. I give him five stars for his medicine. We, all

Miraculous cure of my Calcific
Chronic Pancreatitis by
Ayurveda
-- Gopal Mehtani
My name is Gopal Mehtani. Now, I am 45 year old and live with my family in Ahmadabad. I had
been a heavy smoker for twenty years, consuming twenty cigarettes a day. I was also fond of
very spicy non-vegetarian food and alcohol. My body weight has reached to eighty-five kg at
this time. In August 2003, my age was 34 years, when for the first time, I developed severe pain
in my upper abdomen and back with frequent vomiting. I consulted Dr. Haribhakti, a surgical
Gastroenterologist who made a diagnosis of Duodenal Ulcer after carrying an endoscopy and
started my treatment accordingly. Though, I stopped smoking, I continued taking alcohol during
this treatment. Meanwhile, I travelled to Delhi to attend a marriage party where I became seriously
ill with severe abdominal and back pain with vomiting. There, I was hospitalized for fifteen days
and I was diagnosed as a patient of Acute Pancreatitis . Later, I visited Hinduja Hospital in Bombay
who confirmed the diagnosis of Chronic Pancreatitis and my treatment was started for the same
at Ahmadabad under Dr. Vijay Mehta, M.D. (Med.), D.M., DNB (Gastroentrology).
However, I had no respite from the episodic attacks of vomiting and abdominal pain. By this
time, I had lost nearly Twenty kg weight in seven months (March 2004). At this point, some cysts
also formed in my Pancreas. I was again admitted in hospital for fifteen days and all the cysts
were drained out. But my problem continued to persist. Lastly in December2004, I was brought
to Dr. Randhir Sood (senior gastroenterologist) at Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi.
There I underwent ERCP and stent was placed in my Pancreatic Duct. This treatment kept me well
until August 2005, when I suffered with another attack of Pancreatitis. My stent was removed and
the diagnosis of Chronic Pancreatitis was re-established. I remained asymptomatic until March2006.
This time I visited Delhi to attend a business exhibition and this stress caused another episode of
abdominal and back pain. I consulted Dr. Sood in Delhi who again induced ERCP stent. He also found
some calcification in my pancreatic duct and made the diagnosis of Calcific Chronic Pancreatitis.
The whole family was frightened with the progression of my disease and they took me to Asian
Gastro Institute in Hyderabad for expert opinion. There, another stent was placed in my pancreatic
duct in September2006. This procedure was also short lived and I suffered with another attack In
November2006. I was treated with a new stent at Stephen Hospital, Delhi.
By February 2007, my condition had worsened further. I had experienced several attacks in last
four years in-spite of getting best treatment in India. My body weight had reduced to forty eight kg
with an aggregate loss of Forty three kg in total. I had also become very weak physically and mentally
and was not able to carry my business activities. Apparently I had lost all hopes for my life.

I am a pure vegetarian and non-alcohol and non-tobacco user. I am a software professional.
In early 2011, I started suffering with sticky stool, coating, excessive thirst, and used to wake
up with cold, recurrent pain in abdomen, poor appetite and gradual weight loss. Initially I was
treated in Bangalore and later on was referred to Asian Institute of Gastrology, Hyderabad. An
ERCP established the diagnosis of CP. At the same time a PD stent was also placed. After few
months, I again had severe pain and one more stent was placed in my pancreatic duct. I became
very weak, desperate and almost physically and mentally handicapped.
I had lost hope until I started Vaidya Balendu Prakashs treatment. I started observing great
improvement in anorexia and pain within a week. I stopped losing weight after Vaidyajis
treatment. After this treatment I remained asymptomatic until August 2014, after which I
developed mild pain. But now I am asymptomatic and live a happy and normal life.

My miraculous recovery from
Chronic Calcific Pancreatitis...
-- Selma
She was admitted at Moulana Hospital, Perinthalmanna in Mallapuram, Kerala. There she was
diagnosed for Chronic Calcific Pancreatitis after undergoing many investigations including X-RAY,
ultrasound, CT scan of abdomen. She was treated with IV - fluids and painkillers and responded
well. She remained asymptomatic for next two years. In 1997, she again developed severe pain
in abdomen with vomiting and substantial weight loss. She was hospitalized, received IV fluids,
pain killer and improved. However, within a fortnight she again suffered with pain abdomen
of same intensity and hospitalized for IV fluids and pain killers. But the frequency of attacks
increased further in next two years. She used to spend 10-15 days every month in hospital and
had nearly thirty attacks of abdominal pain. She also lost overall 20 kgs body weight during this
period.
At this juncture she was referred by her treating gastroenterologist at Moulana Hospital to
Vaidya Balendu Prakash and admitted under him at the Ayurvedic Research Unit in RCC,
Trivandrum, Kerala on 3rd October 1999. She was pale, weak with only 30 kgs body weight

1999 showed multiple opacities suggested calcification in pancreatic region and Ultrasound
abdomen revealed enlarged pancreas 27/20/80 mm with irregular margins and multiple calculi
of various sizes seen in head, body and tail region. She showed dramatic improvement within
first week of Ayurvedic treatment and gained 1.5 kgs body weight with no pain. She continued
Ayurvedic treatment since April 2000. During this period,She gained 12 kgs weight and remain

I had been a chronic alcoholic

-- Jagjivan Malik
I had been a chronic alcoholic for 25 years until I developed deep jaundice in May 1999. I was
taken to PGI Chandigarh where I was diagnosed for Chronic Calcific Pancreatitis with endocrine
and exocrine insufficiency with a mass lesion in the head of pancreas and stricture in common
bile duct. Here, I was treated with IV fluids, pain killer and antibiotics.
I remained well for fifteen months.
In August 2000, i suffered with acute pain in my upper abdomen which was radiating to back with
strong nausea. I was treated locally by a gastroenterologist with I/V fluid and pain killer for few
days. Afterwards,I used to have continuous and dull pain in my back and upper abdomen with an
unexplained weakness and gradual weight loss. This all affected my quality of life badly. I was admitted
into AIIMS, Delhi (CR- 639186) from 13/02/2001 to 28/02/01. The CECT and MRCP of abdomen re
confirmed the diagnosis of chronic Calcific Pancreatitis. I was treated with Pain killer, antibiotics and
IV fluids. At this juncture, I was also recommended for some surgical procedure which I refused and
came back to my home town in Jammu.
Meanwhile, I heard about Vaidya Balendu Prakash at Dehradun. I contacted him and reached
to his clinic on 21/04/2001 in a shabby state of body and mind. My body weight was reduced
from 68 kg to 55 kg and I had become an insulin dependent diabetic patient. Vaidya ji treated
me with some dietary and life style modifications along with his own prepared medicines called
Kamdudha, Amar and Higwasthak Churna.
I responded well to his treatment from the day one and gained 3.5 kg body weight within six
weeks of Ayurvedic treatment. My daily insulin intake also reduced to 36 units/ day from 42
units/day. My weight also increased to 62 kg after one year long continuous treatment.
Now, I am 58 years old and I have completed twelve years after Ayurvedic treatment. My health
is good and I didnt experience any pain or discomfort afterwards. I didnt feel any adverse effect
of Vaidyajis treatment.
I am very grateful to Vaidya Balendu Prakash and his team.

I resumed butter, ghee and
fried food again.
--Akash Pachauri
I was born in a middle class family in Agra. We are strict vegetarian, non tobacco and non alcoholic. I
lost my father when I was eleven years old. He was a teacher and my mother is a housewife. I started
earning from the age of fourteen due to financial constrain by giving tuitions in my home town.
When I turned nineteen I developed anorexia (loss of appetite, indigestion, weakness and gradual
weight-loss). Local doctors treated me for digestion with enzymes, vitamins and anti-amoebic
medicines. Those had partial impact on my health for a while. But I continued to lose more weight
and also developed continuous pain in the middle of my back. On the advice of Dr. Mukesh Garg, a
renowned surgeon of Agra, I underwent ultrasound of my abdomen on 30 Aug 2011. The tail region
of the pancreas depicted irregular outline with multiple small calcifications in the parenchyma.
He told me that I had been suffering with chronic pancreatitis and prescribed Panilipase with each
meal for rest of my life. I read about this disease and was very scared as chromic pancreatitis (CP)
could be lifelong treatment and it may be life threatening at any point in life more over there was no
known cure for that.
Somehow one day I read a story of a patient on internet who had CP and recovered completely
after undergoing Ayurvedic treatment from Dehradun based Vaidya Balendu Prakash. I contacted
his office and reached there on 31 March 2012. I was examined by Vaidya Naveen Sharma who
prescribed me three types of ayurvedic medicines with certain dietary and life style modifications.
He stopped all ongoing allopathic medicines.
There was an instant relief in my back pain within a weeks time after this treatment. I started feeling
energetic as well. Now I have completed one year of ayurvedic treatment. During this tenure, I
received treatment periodically from Vaidya jis clinic.
Now I feel absolutely normal and carry all duties. I didnt experience any adverse or side effect of his
treatment. Today I am happy as Vaidya ji has stopped my treatment for CP and have asked me to start
butter, ghee and homemade fried items. I hope that his treatment will help many others in coming
future. July 22, 2013

Not a single doctor assured me
of a permanent cure to Chronic
Pancreatitis.
--Yash Narula, Delhi
I was 32 when my pancreas was mildly affected after I contracted chicken pox. And on one fine
morning I woke up with severe abdominal pain followed by vomiting. This was how I developed
chronic pancreatitis.
After being treated at the Orthonova hospital by Dr Manoj Sharma, I got discharged on the 8th
day. But I kept feeling mild pain every 2-3 months. I consulted many doctors in Delhi. But not a
single doctor assured me of a permanent cure to Chronic Pancreatitis. Instead doctors told me
chronic pancreatitis was a life threatening disease and some doctors even told me that a person
with this disease could live up to 9 years.
Days passed and on 8 October, 2014, I got another major attack and found myself in the ICU in Max
hospital, Saket. Dr Vivaan Talwar was treating me. I got discharged after undergoing same treatment
as last time. I was still recovering the second attack, when again on 4 December, 2014 I had my
third major attack. This time I was admitted in Medanta hospital in Gurgaon Haryana, under the
supervision of Dr Radhir Sud, a renowned name in gastroenterology. There also I underwent all the
investigations and reporta confirmed that calcification in my pancreas had increased compared
to last scans. Same treatment was repeated and I got discharged after 4-5 days, with the same
instructions in the discharge summary eat zero fatty food, take small meals.
I spent hours on internet searching treatment for CP all over the world. I read many blogs and
comments on many websites to find out the permanent cure to this problem. But I could not
find even a single person, doctor or hospital saying that they have overcome this problem.
Rather I read that a person could not live more than 7-9 yrs.
Amidst all this, a few of my friends insisted to try Ayurveda. Though I was not convinced I made
a Google search and came across a website www.ayurvedapancreatitisclinc.com. After reading
all the testimonials on this website, I felt convinced and next day, I made an appointment at this
Centre in Dehradun.
On 7 January, 2015, I got admitted at Padaav in Dehradun. At Padaav, the in-house treatment is based
on simple living and healthy living. And it was wonderful to see Vaidya Shabnam ji take personal care
of each patient. Since then I have completed three months of Ayurvedic treatment. I have regained
my health and confidence and carry my normal duties at home and work.

Eight years of misery and the
fear of living with Chronic
Pancreatitis is pass!
--Pankaj Garg, Jaipur
In 2006, I was 18 when for the first time, I was hospitalized it was chronic pancreatitis, the doctors
said. Thereafter, I knew I had to live with this disease till I breathe my last. But things changed, and
today at 26, I am leading a healthy and painless life.
My journey with pancreatitis was painful periodic episodes of unbearable abdominal pain,
numerous hospital visits and repeated medication, until I came to Padaav Ayurvedic Centre in
Dehradun. And I must say, Padaav is not just a hospital but is a true care centre.
Before coming to the Centre, this disease affected me and my family financially, morally,
psychologically and socially. Actually very little is known about this disease among general
public and research on pancreas is not available in the public domain. So I started collecting
information about pancreatitis from internet and met different doctors. Based on this knowledge
my whole family made significant dietary changes and switched to yoga. With these changes I
did not get a single attack for almost 2 years. And in summer of 2009, I went to Germany for an
internship. But I had to return to India. I got another attack.
Immediately after coming to India, I made a visit to Dr Shiv Sarin, a renowned physician at the
GB Pant Hospital in Delhi. Dr Sarin suggested implanting a stent in my pancreatic duct along
with a few medications. A stent was implanted through ERCP but failed to prove beneficial. I got
another attack while undergoing ERCP and the stent also went away after some time. At this
time doctor declared that my acute pancreatitis had converted into chronic pancreatitis.
In 2010, I went to Mumbai for higher education but sudden change in lifestyle and diet I got
another attack but after this for the next two years had no attacks. I was back on diet management
and yoga. By 2012, I was back in Jaipur, my hometown. However, in January 2013 I got another
attack. Frequent attacks now started bothering me. I was put on nine tablets of Pancrelipase
every day for life long duration. I was very scared of my disease and I read extensively about it
on the internet. Coincidently, I heard Dr MS Valiathan during a lecture. After the lecture I got in
touch with him over email and he suggested contacting Dr GG Gangadharan in Bangalore, who
introduced me to Padam shri Vaidya Balendu Prakash who has successfully treated many cases
of Chronic Pancreatitis.
I then visited his website and read a testimonial by Ankur from New Delhi, who recently underwent
treatment for chronic pancreatitis offered by Vaidyaji. After reading Ankurs testimonial I decided
to meet him in Delhi. Ankurs improved health and confidence in Vaidyajis treatment boosted

my morale and encouraged me to undergo Ayurvedic treatment.
And in January 2014, I went to consult Vadiyaji in Dehradun. Within few days after starting
Vaidyajis medication pain in upper abdomen disappeared, a pain that doctors said would have
remained with me thorough out my life.
During my stay at Padaav, I found in-house facility to be amazingly hospitable. It is not a hospital
but a care centre where patients are given homely treatment. During this 1 year course I have
followed strict diet schedule along with daily exercise. Along with this I did meditation also
which also added to better result.
I have taken treatment for 1 year and many changes have come in me during the course of 1 year.
Firstly, my confidence level has increased. Today after meeting with some many patients at Padaav
centre I dont find myself to be the only one suffering from pancreatitis. Secondly, my weight during
this 1 year has increased. Thirdly, earlier when I use to eat fatty food there was lot of indigestion
but now I eat fatty food in limited quantity there is no indigestion. Fourthly, earlier I was having
a problem of sticky stool but now there is no such problem. Last but most importantly, I recently
got my pancreas scanned through USG. Radiologist has inferred that my pancreas has healed to a
significant level. She has also admitted that she did not have any clue of pancreatitis from USG. She
came to know only after I told her that I am suffering from pancreatitis.
Vaidya Jis treatment is based on the concept of Aahar-Vihar-Aushadh. So patients who want
to take ayurvedic treatment must keep in mind that medicine is only a part of the treatment. If
one wants to treat fully he must check his dietary habits (aahar) and lifestyle (vihar) along with
medicine (aushadh).

Golden Hospital at Rohini under Dr. S.P. Demble. He was treated with IV fluids, pain killer,
antibiotics and antacid for three days. The laboratory investigation showed elevated serum
amylase in his blood. Here, for the first time, he heard the word of Chronic Pancreatitis (CP) in his
life. He remained well for 18 months and in January 2002 while he was visiting Moga (Punjab).
Once again he had severe pain in upper abdomen. This time he was admitted under Dr. B K
Goel at Apollo Hospital for three days and improved after receiving IV fluids, painkiller and
antacids. Later, he experienced six more episodes of CP between January 2003 and July 2011.
During these years he was treated by renowned gastroenterologists at Apollo, Fortis and AIIMS,
Delhi. By this time he lost 14 kg body weight and developed profound weakness at mental and
physical level. At this stage he was referred for Ayurvedic treatment by one of his neighbor and
he was admitted for first few weeks at Dehradun on 22nd August, 2011. He has completed 2
years of ayurvedic treatment with substantial improvement at all levels. The last MRCP dated 6
May 2013 still shows signs of CP. However, he is clinically asymptomatic with no adverse effect
of ongoing ayurvedic treatment.

I am non alcoholic and non tobacco user. In 2000, I developed severe pain in abdomen with
vomiting. I was admitted at CMI Hospital Dehradun, under Dr, Sanjay Saxena DM Gastroentrologist.
He advised certain blood test, ultrasound, CT scan & diagnosed me for CP. He put me on daily
doses of painkillers and pan lipase three times a day for rest of the life.
However, my condition was worsening. I had lost 12 kg weight and about sixty episodes of
abdominal pain & vomiting in two years of time. I was very scared and frightened with the
prognosis. My husband consulted many hospitals in Lucknow and Delhi.
After deliberate search we consulted Padmashri Vaidya Balendu Prakash on 24 May, 2002. He
treated me with his medicines and dietary advice for one year and stopped all my previous
treatment. I did not observe any side-effects of his treatment and regained my health and 10kg
of body weight. I also delivered a healthy baby after Vaidya jis treatment. I am very thankful to
the almighty and Vaidya ji.
