AL QURAN
PREAMBLE
All praises and thanks be to Allah (SWT) The Most Gracious and
The Most Merciful. As Allah (SWT) says in the Holy Quran He
sent down to you the Book and Wisdom, for your
instruction [Ch. 2, v 231] therefore objectively Al Quran has
been given to us by the creator Himself for our guidance. But
unfortunately over the period of time we have forgotten that we
have the most applicable conduct of life and the most appropriate
instruction manual available with us. The irony of the fact is that
we read this book daily but dont know what is written in it. The
importance of Nazra-e-Quran (to read the Holy Quran verbally,
without translation /memorization with correct punctuations)
cannot be denied but at same time its (Al Quran) core purpose is
guidance which in essence cannot be obtained unless we read it
with understanding. This pamphlet contains some of the verses in
holy Quran (i.e. translation of Al Quran by Abdullah Yousef Ali)
that pertains instruction and guidance for us, but these are like a
drop in the ocean, there is so much we can obtain from this book
(Al Quran). The sole purpose and intention is to formulate a check
list of the guidance and instructions from Al Quran (in which
certainly much can be added) and implement it in our daily life.
Lastly, it is pertinent to mention that at least once, read the
verses with context and commentary that will further enhance our
comprehension on various subjects, as some of the verses are
completely and some are partly (direct instruction in the complete
verse) quoted along with the references (for easy consultation).
And except the variation of old English words like ye, thee, thou
etc. nothing has been changed in the exact translation of Al
Quran by Abdullah Yousef Ali. May Allah (SWT) show us the right
path and empower us to read the book (Al Quran) with
understanding as Al Quran says But none will grasp the
Message but men of understanding [Ch. 2, v 269] and apply
it whole heartedly in our daily lives as Al Quran says Who can
be better in religion than one who submits his whole self
to Allah, does good, and follows the way of Abraham the
true in Faith [Ch. 4, v 125]. Amen

Verse
You (Allah) do we worship and Your aid we seek
And cover not Truth with falsehood, nor conceal the Truth when you know
[what it is]
Do you enjoin right conduct on the people, and forget [To practice it]
yourselves
Nay, seek [Allah's] help with patient perseverance and prayer
Nay, those who seek gain in evil, and are girt round by their sins, - they are
companions of the Fire: Therein shall they abide
Those to whom We have sent the Book study it as it should be studied:
They are the ones that believe therein: Those who reject faith therein, - the
loss is their own.
To each is a goal to which Allah turns him; then strive together towards all
that is good
Then do you remember Me; I will remember you. Be grateful to Me, and
reject not Faith
Be sure we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in
goods or lives or the fruits [of your toil], but give glad tidings to those who
patiently persevere, Who say, when afflicted with calamity: "To Allah We
belong, and to Him is our return"
Eat of what is on earth, Lawful and good; and do not follow the footsteps of
the evil one, for he is to you an avowed enemy. For he commands you what
is evil and shameful, and that you should say of Allah that of which you
have no knowledge
It is not righteousness that you turn your faces Towards east or West; but it

is righteousness- to believe in Allah and the Last Day, and the Angels, and
the Book, and the Messengers; to spend of your substance, out of love for
Him, for your kin, for orphans, for the needy, for the wayfarer, for those who
ask, and for the ransom of slaves; to be steadfast in prayer, and practice
regular charity; to fulfil the contracts which you have made; and to be firm
and patient, in pain [or suffering] and adversity, and throughout all periods
of panic. Such are the people of truth, the God-fearing
In the Law of Equality there is [saving of] Life to you, O you men of
understanding! that you may restrain yourselves
Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that
you may [learn] self-restraint
And do not eat up your property among yourselves for vanities, nor use it as
bait for the judges, with intent that you may eat up wrongfully and knowingly
a little of [other] people's property
Fight in the cause of Allah, those who fight you, but do not transgress limits;
for Allah love not transgressors
Make not your own hands contribute to your destruction
For Hajj are the months well known, If anyone undertakes that duty therein,
Let there be no obscenity, nor wickedness, nor wrangling in the Hajj
And there is the type of man who gives his life to earn the pleasure of Allah:
And Allah is full of kindness to [His] devotees
They ask you concerning wine and gambling. Say: "In them is great sin,
and some profit, for men; but the sin is greater than the profit." They ask
you how much they are to spend; Say: "What is beyond your needs." Thus
do Allah Make clear to you His Signs: In order that you may consider
Allah loves those who turn to Him constantly and He loves those who keep
themselves pure and clean
And make not Allah's (name) an excuse in your oaths against doing good or
acting rightly or making peace between persons
Guard strictly your prayers, especially the Middle Prayer and stand before
Allah in a devout [frame of mind]
If you fear [an enemy], pray on foot, or riding, [as may be most convenient],
but when you are in security, celebrate Allah's praises in the manner He has
taught you, which you knew not [before]
Those who spend their substance in the cause of Allah and follow not up
their gifts with reminders of their generosity or with injury
Kind words and the covering of faults are better than charity
Give of the good things which you have [honorably] earned, and of the fruits
of the earth which We have produced for you, and do not even aim at
getting anything which is bad, in order that out of it you may give away
something, when you yourselves would not receive it except with closed
eyes. And know that Allah is Free of all wants, and worthy of all praise. The
Evil one threatens you with poverty and bids you to conduct unseemly. Allah
promises you His forgiveness and bounties
But none will grasp the Message but men of understanding
Those who devour usury will not stand except as stands one whom the evil
one by his touch has driven to madness
He love not creatures ungrateful and wicked
If a debtor is in difficulty grant him time until it is easy for him to repay but if
you remit it by way of charity that is best for you if you only knew

Serve Allah and join not any partners with Him: and do good with parents,
kinships, orphans, those in need, neighbors who are near, neighbors who
are strangers. The companion by your side, the way farer and what your
right hand possess for Allah. Love not the arrogance the vain glorious
Approach not your prayers with a mind befogged, Until you can understand
all that you say
Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger and those charged with authority
among you. If you differ in anything among yourselves, refer it to Allah and
His Apostle
But no, by the Lord, they can have no [real] Faith, until they make you
(Prophet Muhammad PBUH) judge in all disputes between them and find in
their souls no resistance against your decisions, but accept them with the
fullest conviction
O you who believe! Take your precautions
And why should you not fight in the cause of Allah and of those who, being
weak, are ill-treated [and oppressed]? - Men, women and children, whose
cry is: "Our Lord! Rescue us from this town, whose people are oppressors;
and raise for us from You one who will protect; and raise for us from You
one who will help!"
Whatever good, [O man!] happens to you, is from Allah; but whatever evil
happens to you, is from your [own] soul
Then fight in Allah's cause
Whoever recommends and helps a good cause becomes a partner there in
And whoever recommends and helps an evil cause share its burden
When a (courteous) greeting is offered to you, meet it with a greeting still
more courteous, (at least) of equal courtesy.
Never should a believer kill a believer; but [If it so happens] by mistake,
[Compensation is due]: If one [so] kills a believer, it is ordained that he
should free a believing slave, and pay compensation to the deceased's
family, unless they remit it freely
If a man kills a believer intentionally, his recompense is Hell, to abide
therein [Forever] : And the wrath and the curse of Allah are upon him, and a
dreadful penalty is prepared for him
O you who believe! When ye go abroad in the cause of Allah, investigate
carefully, and say not to anyone who offers you a salutation: "you are none
of a believer!"
Contend not on behalf of such as betray their own souls: for Allah love not
one given to perfidy and crime
If any one does evil or wrongs his own soul but afterwards seeks Allah's
forgiveness, he will find Allah Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful
But if anyone earns a fault or a sin and throws it onto the one that is
innocent, he carries (on himself) a falsehood and a flagrant sin
In most of their secret talks there is no good: But if one exhorts to a deed of
charity or justice or conciliation between men, [Secrecy is permissible]: To
him who does this, seeking the good pleasure of Allah, We shall soon give
a reward of the highest [value].
Not your desires, nor those of the People of the Book [can prevail]: whoever
works evil, will be requited accordingly, nor will he find, besides Allah, any
protector or helper
Who can be better in religion than one who submits his whole self to Allah,
does good, and follows the way of Abraham the true in Faith?
Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even as against

things that endure, Good Deeds, are best in the sight of your Lord, as
rewards, and best in respect of [their] eventual return.
Nor strain your eyes in longing for the things We have given for enjoyment
to parties of them, the splendor of the life of this world, through which We
test them: but the provision of your Lord is better and more enduring.
Closer and closer to mankind comes their Reckoning: yet they heed not and
they turn away. Never comes [aught] to them of a renewed Message from
their Lord, but they listen to it as in jest,
Those who fear their Lord in their most secret thoughts, and who hold the
Hour [of Judgment] in awe
There are among men some who serve Allah, as it were, on the verge: if
good befalls them, they are, therewith, well content; but if a trial comes to
them, they turn on their faces: they lose both this world and the Hereafter:
that is loss for all to see!
To those whose hearts when Allah is mentioned, are filled with fear, who
show patient perseverance over their afflictions, keep up regular prayer,
and Spend [in charity] out of what We have bestowed upon them.
Live in contentment
Allah will certainly aid those who aid his [cause]
Those who leave their homes in the cause of Allah, and are then slain or
die,- On them will Allah bestow verily a goodly Provision
To every People have We appointed rites and ceremonies which they must
follow
O you who believe! bow down, prostrate yourselves and adore your Lord
and do good that you may prosper
Hold fast to Allah He is your protector
Avoid vain talk
Active in deeds of charity
Abstain from sex
Faithfully observe their trust and their covenants
Guard their prayers
And verily this Brotherhood of yours is a single Brotherhood, and I am your
Lord and Cherisher: therefore fear Me [and no other].But people have cut
off their affair [of unity], between them, into sects: each party rejoices in that
which is with itself. But leave them in their confused ignorance for a time
Hasten in every good work and be foremost
Repel evil with that which is best
And those who launch a charge against chaste women, and produce not
four witnesses [to support their allegations],- flog them with eighty stripes;
and reject their evidence ever after: for such men are wicked transgressors
Those who love scandal published broadcast among the believers, will
have grievous penalty
Follow not Satan's footsteps: if any will follow the footsteps of Satan, he will
[but] command what is shameful and wrong: and were it not for the grace
and mercy of Allah on you, not one of you would ever have been pure: but
Allah do purify whom He pleases: and Allah is One Who hears and knows
[all things].
Let not among you who are endued with grace and amplitude of means
resolve by oath against helping their kinsmen, those in want
Forgive and overlook, do you not wish that Allah should forgive you
Those who slander chaste women, indiscreet but believing, are cursed in
this life and in the Hereafter: for them is a grievous Penalty

Women impure for men impure and men impure for women impure and

Enter not houses other than your own, until you have asked permission and
saluted those in them: that is best for you, in order that you may heed [what
is seemly]. If you find none in the house, enter not until permission is given
to you, if you are asked to go back, go back
Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their
modesty
And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard
their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments
except what [must ordinarily] appear thereof; that they should draw their
veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their
husbands, their fathers, their husband's fathers, their sons, their husbands'
sons, their brothers or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their
women, or the slaves whom their right hands possess, or male servants
free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame
of sex; and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to
their hidden ornaments. And O you Believers! Turn you all together towards
Allah, that you may attain Bliss.
Let those who find not the where withal for marriage keep themselves
chaste, until Allah gives them the means out of His grace
By men whom neither traffic nor merchandise can divert from the
remembrance of Allah
Let those whom your right hand possess and the (children) among you who
have not come of age ask your permission on three occasions, before
morning prayer, the while you doff your clothes for the noon day heat and
after the late night prayer, These are your three times of undress
But if you enter houses, salute each other - a greeting of blessing and purity
as from Allah.
Who walk on earth in humility and when the ignorant Address them they say
"peace"
Who spend the night on adoration of their Lord prostrate and standing
Those who, when they spend, are not extravagant and not niggardly, but
hold a just [balance] between those [extremes];
Those who invoke not, with Allah, any other god, nor slay such life as Allah
has made sacred except for just cause, nor commit fornication
And whoever repents and does good has truly turned to Allah with an
conversion
Those who witness no falsehood, and, if they pass by futility, they pass by it
with honorable [avoidance];
But if they hearken not to you, know that they only follow their own lusts:
and who is more astray than one who follow his own lusts, devoid of
guidance from Allah? For Allah guides not people given to wrong-doing.
When they hear vain talk, they turn away therefrom and say "To us our

And those who strive in Our [cause], - We will certainly guide them to our
Paths: For verily Allah is with those who do right.
Those who split their religion and become sects each party rejoicing in that
which is with itself
When trouble touches men, they cry to their Lord, turning back to Him in
repentance: but when He gives them a taste of Mercy as from Himself,
behold, some of them pay part-worship to other gods besides their Lord

So give what is due to kindred, the needy, and the wayfarer. That is best for
those who seek the Countenance, of Allah, and it is they who will prosper.
But there are, among men, those who purchase idle tales, without
knowledge, to mislead from the path of Allah and throw ridicule: for such
there will be a humiliating penalty
Behold, Luqman said to his son by way of instruction: "O my son! Join not
in worship [others] with Allah: for false worship is indeed the highest
wrongdoing". And We have enjoined on man [to be good] to his parents: in
travail upon travail did his mother bear him, and in years twain was his
weaning: [hear the command], Show gratitude to Me and to your parents: to
Me is [your final] Goal. But if they strive to make you join in worship with Me
things of which you hast no knowledge, obey them not; yet bear them
company in this life with justice [and consideration], and follow the way of
those who turn to me [in love]: in the end the return of you all is to Me, and I
will tell you the truth [and meaning] of all that you did. "O my son! [Said
Luqman], "If there be [but] the weight of a mustard-seed and it were
[hidden] in a rock, or [anywhere] in the heavens or on earth, Allah will bring
it forth: for Allah understands the finest mysteries, [and] is well-acquainted
[with them]. O my son! Establish regular prayer, enjoin what is just, and
forbid what is wrong: and bear with patient constancy whatever betide you;
for this is firmness [of purpose] in [the conduct of] affairs. "And swell not
your cheek [for pride] at men, nor walk in insolence through the earth; for
Allah love not any arrogant boaster. And be moderate in your pace, and
lower your voice; for the harshest of sounds without doubt is the braying of
the ass.
Whoever submits his whole self to Allah and is a doer of good has grasped
indeed the most trust worthy hand-hold
Do your duty to your Lord, and fear [the coming of] a Day when no father
can avail aught for his son, nor a son avail aught for his father.
Celebrate the praises of Allah, and do this often
And those who annoy believing men and women undeservedly, bear [on
themselves] a calumny and a glaring sin.
Fear Allah, and [always] say a word directed to the Right:
If any do seek for glory and power, to Allah belong all glory and power
It is you that have need of Allah: but Allah is the One Free of all wants,
worthy of all praise.
Is it not to Allah that sincere devotion is due? But those who take for
protectors other than Allah [say]: "We only serve them in order that they
may bring us nearer to Allah." Truly Allah will judge between them in that
wherein they differ. But Allah guides not such as are false and ungrateful.
Woe to those whose hearts are hardened against celebrating the praises of
Allah! They are manifestly wandering [in error]!
Turn you to your Lord [in repentance] and bow to His [Will], before the
Penalty comes on you: after that you shall not be helped.
Who is better in speech than one who calls [men] to Allah, works
righteousness, and says, "I am of those who bow in Islam"?
Man does not weary of asking for good [things], but if ill touches him, he
gives up all hope [and] is lost in despair.
That you should remain steadfast in religion, and make no divisions therein
Those who avoid the greater crimes and shameful deeds, and, when they
are angry even then forgive; Those who hearken to their Lord, and establish
regular Prayer; who [conduct] their affairs by mutual Consultation; who

spend out of what We bestow on them for sustenance; And those who,
when an oppressive wrong is inflicted on them, [are not cowed but] help
and defend themselves. The recompense for an injury is an injury equal
thereto [in degree]: but if a person forgives and makes reconciliation, his
reward is due from Allah: for [Allah] love not those who do wrong.
It is only Wrong-doers [that stand as] protectors, one to another: but Allah is (Ch. 45 , v 19)
the Protector of the Righteous.
Then see you such a one as takes as his god his own vain desire? Allah (Ch. 45 , v 23)
has, knowing [him as such], left him astray, and sealed his hearing and his
heart [and understanding], and put a cover on his sight. Who, then, will
guide him after Allah [has withdrawn Guidance]? Will ye not then receive
admonition?
If you will aid [the cause of] Allah, He will aid you, and plant your feet firmly. (Ch. 47 , v 7)
Obey Allah, and obey the messenger, and make not vain your deeds!
The life of this world is but play and amusement: and if you believe and
guard against evil, He will grant you your recompense,
Muhammad is the messenger of Allah; and those who are with him are
strong against Unbelievers, [but] compassionate amongst each other. You
will see them bow and prostrate themselves [in prayer], seeking Grace from
Allah and [His] Good Pleasure. On their faces are their marks, [being] the
traces of their Prostration.
If a wicked person comes to you with any news, ascertain the truth, less
you harm people unwittingly, and afterwards become full of repentance for
what you have done.
If two parties among the Believers fall into a quarrel, make you peace
between them
Let not some men among you laugh at others: It may be that the [latter] are
better than the [former]: Nor let some women laugh at others: It may be that
the [latter are better than the [former]: Nor defame nor be sarcastic to each
other, nor call each other by [offensive] nicknames: Ill seeming is a name
connoting wickedness, [to be used of one] after he has believed: And those
who do not desist are [indeed] doing wrong.
Avoid suspicion as much [as possible]: for suspicion in some cases is a sin:
And spy not on each other behind their backs. Would any of you like to eat
the flesh of his dead brother? Nay, you would abhor it But fear Allah
Verily the most honoured of you in the sight of Allah is [he who is] the most
righteous of you.
Only those are Believers who have believed in Allah and His Messenger,
and have never since doubted, but have striven with their belongings and
their persons in the Cause of Allah: Such are the sincere one
Verily in this is a Message for any that has a heart and understanding or
who gives ear and earnestly witnesses [the truth].
Therefore shun those who turn away from Our Message and desire nothing
but the life of this world.
Those who avoid great sins and shameful deeds, only [falling into] small
faults, verily your Lord is ample in forgiveness.
That man can have nothing but what he strives for; That [the fruit of] his
striving will soon come in sight:
And will you laugh and not weep, Wasting your time in vanities? But fall you
down in prostration to Allah, and adore [Him]!
So establish weight with justice and fall not short in the balance.

Know you [all], that the life of this world is but play and amusement, pomp (Ch. 57 , v 20)
and mutual boasting and multiplying, [in rivalry] among yourselves, riches
and children.
Be you foremost [in seeking] Forgiveness from your Lord,
(Ch. 57 , v 21)
For Allah love not any vainglorious boaster
(Ch. 57 , v 23)
When you hold secret counsel, do it not for iniquity and hostility, and
disobedience to the Prophet; but do it for righteousness and self-restraint
Fear Allah, and let every soul look to what [provision] He has sent forth for
the morrow. And be you not like those who forgot Allah; and He made them
forget their own souls! Such are the rebellious transgressors!
Grievously odious is it in the sight of Allah that you say that which you do
not.
Be you helpers of Allah
(Ch. 58 , v 9)
(Ch. 62 , v 9)
Every soul will be [held] in pledge for its deeds. Except the Companions of
the Right Hand. [They will be] in Gardens [of Delight]: they will question
each other, And [ask] of the Sinners: "What led you into Hell Fire? They
will say: "We were not of those who prayed; Nor were we of those who fed
the indigent; But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; And we used to
deny the Day of Judgment,
And they feed, for the love of Allah, the indigent, the orphan, and the
captive
And for such as had entertained the fear of standing before their Lord's
[tribunal] and had restrained [their] soul from lower desires, Their abode will
be the Garden
Woe to those that deal in fraud
Nay, nay! But you honor not the orphans! Nor do you encourage one
another to feed the poor! - And you devour inheritance - all with greed, And
you love wealth with inordinate love!
Enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion.

that corrupts it!
