GENERAL
Nokia Data Package Manager is a service software tool which provides following functions:
Real Time downloading of product software files via online connection from Nokia Firmware
Repository (FiRe)
Scheduled downloading of product software files via online connection from Nokia Firmware
Repository (FiRe)
Search function and creation of filters for the data you need to download.
Checking and organizing your locally installed product software content.
The purpose is to stop the delivery of separate Care Data Packages, and continue software
content delivery via online connection. Please note that you can also download software
content from FiRe by using the Data Package Download function in Phoenix service
software, or by using care Suite Product Support Tool in Online mode.
Important: This document does not claim to be exhaustive. The actual software install or
uninstall process may vary from this description depending on the computer hardware used,
the software already installed and the entries in the registry.
Close all applications before installing Nokia service software.
Read the information provided by the installation program carefully, it often points out
important steps in the installation!

Data Packages
In this view you can configure where you want the files to be downloaded. The location can be a
folder on your PC or on a network server. Default location is the common data package location
used by all Care Suite family applications and Phoenix service software.
4.2
Use default folder when using Care Suite or Phoenix in one workstation only
You can define a preferred folder where you have installed Data Packages previously if it is not
the default folder. You can also define a folder on a network server which is shared by multiple
workstations.
Integration Verification verifies that checksum of the downloaded file is correct

How to browse product software files online from Nokia Firmware Repository
In the Data Package Browser / Online Server view you can define product type for which
you want to look for software content. When you select Search, software information for all
product variants (= product codes) of the type will be shown. Optionally you can also specify the
product code. If product code is also defined, software information specific only for this variant
will be shown.
You can change the width of the columns for example to be able to see full variant name. You can
move upwards and downwards on the list by moving the slider in the right hand side of the view,
and from left to right by using the slider at the bottom.
Page

6.1.1
The amount of variants depends on the product type and it is shown at the bottom of the UI. To
ease up your work, you may filter the results. When Enable Result Filtering - checkbox is
CHECKED, you can type filtering criteria to Name, Product code and SW version fields. Below is
an example of a filter created by using part of the variant name.
You can also filter the information in ascending (small arrow points upwards) or descending (small
arrow points downwards) order. Just click the field you want, and the small arrow will appear.
Below an example where variants have been set do descending order based on product code in
addition to the variant name.

variants and <unavailable> may be shown. Please note that when Regional Filtering is enabled,
queries may take considerably longer than without it.
6.1.2
The UI of the Data Package Manager provides variety of information concerning the variant files,
which are always of the latest available versions.
Name, Region and Product Code identify the variant and sales area / country /
customer
SW Version shown can be used to check if your locally installed files are up to date
Status indicates progress of the download. You can control the download by clicking the
small icon next to the status description.
Progress bar gives an estimation about how much of the download is completed in
percentages
Firmware files are the product software files which are needed for all product types.
They are the kind of files which until now are included in the traditional product specific
Data Packages
Content files mean additional content files, which may not be needed for all product
types. These files contain movies, applications and other optional content, making them
very large in size. They are not typically a part of a traditional product specific Data
Package but must be installed separately to the product specific folder on PC.
Page

6.1.3
Please make sure to check the file size, because it has impact on the
downloading time and required local disk space. If the size of the file is shown as
0.00 B it does not exist.
Estimated Time is estimation about the download time based on the network speed at a
given time; it may change with the variations in network speed.
Before you start downloading, please always check the size of the file(s) and the space you have
available on your hard disk.
To select the files you want to download:
Click the small arrow to the right of the status or
Click the variant name and select Download Selected
You can make multiple selections by using SHIFT and CTRL keys and then clicking
variant names
6.1.4
Quick Scheduling
If you dont want to download files immediately, it is possible to schedule the download
to happen at a more convenient time. Schedule Selected will open the Task Scheduler
UI where you can specify the desired downloading time and other details. Please see
chapter 7 Data Package Scheduler.

6.1.5
If the variant uses optional content files, you will be prompted if you want to download them as
well. The setting in File-> Preferences->Downloads-> Content Files is set to Always
Ask by default. You can change this setting if needed.
6.2
Local Content
In this view you can check the status of the content in your local storage. The content of the local
storage is compared to the latest situation in FiRe. It is possible to check if updated versions are
available, update and also delete files.
The dropdown in the left top corner will show a list of product types for which you have
content locally.
Product codes of the selected type will be shown when you select Search
Status will show Up To Date if no updates are available, Out of Date if updates are
available
When update is available, you can start update by electing Download Selected
You can remove variant files from your local folder if you dont need any more.
NOTE: The local content is refreshed only when you start Data Package Manager Application or
press the
Refresh button located next to Product Type. If you have ongoing activities,
the status will not get refreshed automatically.

When using DPM to download variants to a shared server, you should make sure that
individual work stations are not using the data in the folder at the same time. Please
schedule your download tasks so that simultaneous update and use of the
same files is not possible. This is because old data is removed before new data is
downloaded.
Incomplete Remote Files icon on the Browser and Local Content UIs means that some
files for variant are missing from FiRe. No action is required.
Downloading speed and time may vary based on network speed. When data package files
for certain product code are downloaded for the first time, downloading may take much
longer than usually. This happens because when the first download happens, data is
transferred from Nokia databases to caching servers. Next downloads will be faster,
because data is already buffered on caching servers which are located close to the end
users.
When Regional Filtering is enabled, queries to FiRe may take considerably longer than
without it.
Data Package Manager Lite (KICS article SR1786) was launched for Level 1 and 2 services
in June 2011. Since version 2011.35.2 the Full version of Data Package
Manager is the only available version for all service levels. Before you install
Data Package Manager 2011.35.2 please uninstall Data Package Manager Lite
(v 2011.24.1) from your PC.
Nokia Service Software Applications (Phoenix, Care Suite etc) include a tool called Envira
for collecting log files from different locations. The user does not need to know the
locations of different files, Envira will collect log files from all locations and create a
compressed ZIP file which can then be sent to Nokia for investigation
When experiencing problems with the Data Package Manager Tool:
o Make sure you have the latest Care Suite Product Support Tool (PST) installed on
the same PC.
o Reproduce the problem with Data Package Manager.
o Close Data Package Manager
o Start Care Suite PST
o Start Envira tool from Help Troubleshooting menu
o Specify a time span from which the files are collected (Minimum 1 Hour)
o Press Create ZIP and wait for a while for the operation to be completed
o Create a GENIUS case to Nokia and attach the ZIP file with logs to it
If files for any variant are missing from FiRe, please create a Genius case to the product
program in question. Please specify product and product code clearly.
All product specific variant package files have been uploaded to the Nokia Firmware
Repository since the launch of Nokia N8-00 (RM-596). For products which are older
than the N8-00, availability of all files is not guaranteed.
Page
24
10.
If you notice that files are missing from the Firmware Repository, please create a case to
the GENIUS tool to the product program in question.
In the Genius case, please state the product type, product code and files which are
missing (Mass Memory Content files, other service file package files etc)
Genius cases will be processed, and if technically possible files may be uploaded to FiRe.
If you are not able to solve problems locally, a case can be escalated to local Nokia care or by
using the GENIUS tool directly.
