Concept Paper template By Paul Shilla

After going through various templates and guidelines online on how to write a concept
paper, I finally decided to create my own template - which I will be using to break down
thoughts on various topics related to Start up companies, technology use and
entrepreneurship.
This template is NOT a standard format by any means, but rather my own guide on how
to I think concept papers should be written
If you like it, feel free to use it. If you dont create your own
Concept Paper Outline
Title
This is the tittle part of your concept paper. Your tittle should be clear, brief and concise.
Carrying a general idea of your project.
Attribution
If you have written your concept paper with major inputs from various people, you should
provide full details of them here. Their three names, address, email and phone numbers
The abstract
From your tittle, write two statements that give a short summary of your whole project
Introduction - What is it?
What do you intend to create/develop or propose to be developed?
Purpose - why is it important?
Briefly provide supporting documentation for the importance of addressing this question,
problem or need. If you have statistical data, use it. Cite significant and compelling
sources. Why does this project matter? Make sure that you cite or refer to what others
have accomplished relative to your project.
Project Description In more details, what is your project/idea/concept all about?
Concisely describe what you plan to do, your approach, which benefits and potential
impacts.

Goals and Objectives what are your expected outcomes, short term, long term?
Outline your goals, objectives and research questions. Goals are simply a clearer
statement of the vision, specifying the accomplishments to be achieved if the vision is to
become real. The target objectives are clearer statements of the specific activities
required to achieve the goals. A goal is statement describing a broad or abstract intent,
state or condition. An objective is a statement of measurable outcomes that relate to the
goal.
Methods
How will the project be carried out? Make sure you have connected goals and objectives
to your methodology/timeline. In many cases a table or visual in this section helps.
Timelines
Anticipated Outcomes What is going to happen if this works?
Who benefits? What are the outcomes to be expected? How are the results
disseminated? How does the project/research add new knowledge to the field?
Support Needed
State the total dollar amount and general idea of type of support needed--usually a
detailed budget is not required at this stage and in some circumstances you may leave
this section out all together.
