1.Breaktheprojectintocostcenters.
2.Estimatethequantitiesrequiredforcostcentersthat
representphysicalenditems(e.g.,cubicyardsofearth,
linealfeetofpipe,etc.).Forphysicalsystemsthis
procedureiscommonlycalledquantitytakeoff.Forthose
costcentersthatrelatetononphysicalitems,determine
anappropriateparameterforcostcalculation(e.g.,the
levelofbuilder'sriskinsurancerequiredbythecontract
ortheamountsoftherequiredbonds).
