Objetivos de la asignatura
Crear oportunidades que permiten a los estudiantes
desarrollar las habilidades para leer, escuchar, escribir
y hablar el ingls en una variedad de contextos.
Organizar instruccin y actividades que permiten a los
estudiantes aumentar su conocimiento sobre los
sistemas del ingls (gramtica, vocabulario y
pronunciacin).
Enriquecer sus conocimientos sobre el mundo a travs
del ingls.

At the end of the course, the student will be able to:

1. Listening: Students can understand the main points in conversations, and some
radio or TV programmes, on topics of personal or professional interest when people
speak relatively slowly and clearly.

2. Reading: Students can understand the main points of and extract specific
information from texts that use every day language and can understand
descriptions of experiences and feelings.
3. Speaking (interaction): Students can enter unprepared into conversation on
topics that are familiar giving reasons and advice.
4. Speaking (production): Students can connect phrases and sentences in a simple
way in order to describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions.
Students can briefly give reasons and explanations for their opinions.
5. Writing: Students can take notes, describe experiences, compare and contrast
ideas and write emails and letters making offers and promises.
6. Language: Students can use the Present Perfect, narrative verb forms, future
forms and modal verbs to talk about business ideas, dreams and ambitions, natural
events, money, personality, objects and unexpected travel situations.

3. Rules

Attendance (asistencia)
Students must attend 60% of their classes to pass the
course. That means that you MUST NOT miss more
than:
22 hours in Avanzado A

In Class
If you arrive more than 10 minutes late, you will be
marked absent for that hour and the teacher will not
let you into the class. Please come back for the next
hour of class.
Please switch off your mobile phone before the class
begins.
Please do not eat or drink anything (except water) in
class.
You must bring all your books to every class. If you do
not have the right book, the teacher can ask you to
leave the class.

3. Assessment
(evaluacin)

How do we calculate your

final grade?
There are three evaluations in every course:
Mid-term assessment (primer parcial):
65% written exam (reading [15 points], listening [10-15 points],
writing [10-15 points], use of English [20-30 points])
15% oral exam
20% homework and tests

Final assessment (segundo parcial)

65% written exam (reading [15 points], listening [10-15 points],
writing [10-15 points], use of English [20-30 points])
15% oral exam
20% homework and tests

Mejoramiento (tercer parcial) 100% exam

Written exams

Two formal written exams on specific dates.

Total weighting (ponderacin): 65 points

Each exam lasts 2 hours. In the listening section you will
hear the CD two times only.
If you do not take the exam or class test on the
established date, you will receive a grade of ZERO for that
exam or test.
The teacher will not give you surprise tests you will
always know in advance when there is an exam or test.

All students have the right (el derecho) to review their

answer sheets after you have marked them and ask
questions related to the grade given

Oral exams
Two oral exams on specific dates (the final class of
each period (week 8 and week 16)
Conversational and interactive activities similar to
those that we have practised in class.

You will know in advance when the oral

exam will be and how it will be carried out.
The oral grade is individual.
Each oral grade is over 15.
I will use rubrics to grade you. The rubrics will be
published in sidweb.

Classwork and autonomous work

Mid-term assessment (primer parcial): 20%

Final assessment (segundo parcial):

4. Autonomous work

1 + 1.5
El estudiante debe realizar un mnimo de 1,5 horas de
estudio autnomo por cada hora de clases
presenciales.

A continuacin se propone un programa de estudio
autnomo que le permitir alcanzar el nivel alto, se
valorar el tiempo que uno dedica al estudio y la
calidad de trabajo.

SELF-STUDY PACK
(WORKBOOK)
1. Completar actividades en el workbook despus
de cada clase (segn las indicaciones del docente).
Es responsabilidad de cada estudiante hacer ese
trabajo. El docente podra revisarlo en cualquier
momento pero usualmente revisar todas las
actividades para una unidad durante la leccin.
Se puede revisar las respuestas en el aula virtual. Si
tiene dudas debe conversar con el docente el har
tiempo para repasar o explicar el tema con usted o
en la clase.

CUADERNO PARA
VOCABULARIO
Es importante organizar vocabulario nuevo en un
cuaderno para facilitar el aprendizaje.
Si no sabe como hacerlo, el docente le dar pautas

WRITING
En cada parcial es necesario hacer tres trabajos
escritos evaluados. Hay criterios para cada trabajo
(ver el aula virtual).

WORKSHEETS -Hojas de
trabajo
Durante cada parcial el docente le
entregar algunas hojas de trabajo. A
veces se lo calificar y a veces se podr
revisar las respuestas en el aula virtual o la
clase. Las hojas se debe guardar en una
carpeta.

LECTURA DE UN LIBRO
En el segundo parcial cada estudiante debe leer un
libro y completar una actividad (se acordar las
opciones con la clase).

Se puede leer historias cortas, primero para entender el tema general, segundo para identificar el
significado de nuevas palabras

Aprender nuevas palabras

Se puede revisar vocabulario en el texto, en su cuaderno, en el internet (por ejemplo videos en

you tube).

Se puede escuchar la pronunciacin de nuevas palabras y frases en el aula virtual o el

laboratorio.

Se puede practicar pronunciando o escribiendo las palabras y frases, sueltas o en oraciones.

Gramtica

Se puede explorar los enlaces adicionales en el aula virtual.

Se puede revisar las explicaciones y pautas en el texto.
