Taking the Art experience to a new level

Looking for a spot
to spice up your Instagram
feed? Pinto Art might be the
place that you are looking
for. It has 6 galleries and every corner of each gallery is
definitely Instagram worthy.

But aside from the
fact that it is place where
bloggers take photos to display their favorite #ootds let
me just say that Pinto Art can
bring you more than that!

Every gallery gives you
a tour through the olden times
of Filipino culture. Each art piece
representing the very essence
of our culture as a Filipino and
as with each time in history, it
shows how we slowly took
the culture of others and
adapted it to our context.

Karnabal,
one
of
the
biggest
paintings in the museum and in
its
many
interpretations,
shows the representation of the
East versus the West, the conservative versus the liberal idea
between cultures.

It is great to see here
the good, the bad and the ugly
of all things as it strikes a balance to the representation of
the culture. You will always get
a feeling of realization. Especially with the paintings, that
reflects the political and religious nature of our culture.

This show the artists,
to not only want to express
their sadness and sorrow, but
the joy and hope that they
have.

BY EDRYCSON G. ABINAN

They want the viewer to see an

unseen benefit in the Filipino
culture.

This is truly a magnificent feeling once you get the
idea behind each gallery that
you have entered. That sudden
realization moment at the end
of your tour through the whole
museum gives you an experienced understanding of the
unique level of art appreciation. Its not just pretty pictures
anymore, it wasnt subtle messages, but the history itself.

Pinto Art Museum is a sight to see,

and a place you will
learn many things

The Internal Booklover

BY MARY LARA SHANE G. GASPAR

Book lovers are growing
by the dozen, or so Ive been told.
Regardless, its fun to see people growing to love books more.
Maybe its the movies and series based on books? Or
maybe
its
simple
curiosity.
Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, The
Notebook and The Fault in Our
Stars are the few famous books that
turned into a blockbuster movie. The
masses loved the movie, and fans
became lovers of the books as well.

Then again, movies like
Romeo and Juliet, Pride and
Prejudice, as well as Sense and
Sensibility are also made into
movie, but are not highly recognized, and still people continue to read these classical books.
Then there are those books that
were turned into television series, like The Vampire Diaries,
Game of Thrones and True Blood.
Even then, the mass loved them.

However, let us not compare the two sets of books. They
are magnificent in their own way.
The dilemma here is, where to start
reading, and what? As many people have observed, the love for
books is not about the movie that
was made, its about that published words that creates the story.

If you want to know what
kind of book that would guide
you to your booklover path, you
need to know a few simple things.

First of, know where you
would like to go? There is a saying
that books take you to places you
have never been. Which are true,
books can bring you to that place.
So from there, know where you
want to go. Your want is the limit.

Second, what do you feel
after reading a book out of curiosity? Know what you feel after
reading one book. Did you find
the kind of book that you want to
read, or are you still searching? Do
not worry, youll stumble upon that
magical book soon enough. Just
keeping the wild imagination going.
Lastly, never hesitate to try to read
a book. Like never, because you
can never find the one! Sure read
the first few chapters, and then
see if it really catches your imagination. If not, I dont blame you, if
so, I congratulate you in finding it.

Booklovers are different
from one another; book lovers
are those who appreciate books
as if it is an art made of words.

There are those who
simply love to read to relax,
some are those who wants excitement in their imagination.

For

as

the

saying

goes,

Never judge
a book by its
cover

Some just really love reading and collecting, and there are
many more kinds. You will soon
find your kind of bookworm.

C O L O R S OR N E U T R A L S :
A Maestros Perspective
BY MARY LARA SHANE G. GASPAR

There are a lot of artist, aspiring, inspiring and an icon. Regardless,
it is not their achievement that defines
an artist, but their work. Renmund Theophilus D. Viola, 23, a comic artist, aims
to be well-known in the comic industry.

Originally, Viola did not take
up arts earlier in his life; he took up
a course that is more practical in the
kind of world we all live in. However, like every other artist in the modern world, Viola is one of those who
succumb to the call no matter what
the odds are. So far, he has done
well, and on his way to his dreams.

His works are from simple
pleasures to great works of art. Most
of it focusing on characters from comic
books like Batman (his favorite among
all the comic characters) to his own
cartoon characters interpretations,
like Korra (from the Legend of Korra)
and Fionna (from Adventure Time).

Seeing his artworks, most
of his interpretations are heavy,
but powerful, just like his own.
Viola as a person is opinionated and open
to many life interpretations. He is logical at the same time colorful; you could
talk to him about almost everything.

It is an experience to
have talked to him in such a manner, that it was all so natural.
He
is
curious,
and
finds
positive
things
in
life.

However, like any other people around him, he is also simple,
and would often reach the point of
the unknown in his art. Still, he ends
up creating good comic art. Just see
some of his work and you will see.

Although a comic artist, the
Maestro that is Viola excels more in
drawing in black and white, rather
than doing colors. I had to ask him
why, and his answer is colorful. To him,
you will see more edge and beauty
in comic art through black and white.

Viola is still well on his way to
his goal, he has achieved a lot in his
current work. Soon his favorite quote,

Witness

PARASITES IN MY BRUSH

You know how theres time-based art? Movies, music, plays- its all time-based art. Theres
a beginning and a middle and an end. and you have to see it from beginning to end. Youre restrained to that time line, that way of experiencing it. But then theres paintings, no beginning,
no middle, no end. You see what you want to see when you want to see it. No restrictions. Its just

there.

Kimberly (from the movie Comet)

Angela Gabrielle Loreno, 22 years old, currently studying at the Adamson University,
taking up BS Architecture. She works as an
illustrator in The Adamson Chronicle and
Tapat News. The main themes of her artworks are mostly pop-surreal and editorial
cartoon. She is also a Freelance visual artist
and craft-maker.
She cant express her thoughts in words thats
why she vents out into a visual art. The stories
behind her artworks are mostly expression
of love for a certain movie and her obsession
towards succulent plant or her bad day at
school.

No-Knead Donuts (Baked not Fried)

Author: Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day

For a long time, Grannies and apple pies on windowsill comes into my mind when I
encounter the word baking. A
whole new definition came up
the first time I baked by myself.

Baking is not just about
satisfying cravings and fill in tummies, its also about putting smile
on peoples faces through their
taste buds. It might not be as
easy as bringing a pot of water
to boil and dump in instant
noodles, but all the handiwork will surely produce tasty results.

INGREDIENTS

INSTRUCTIONS

* 3 cups (575g/ 1lb 4oz) all-purpose

flour
* 2 tsp dried yeast (active or fast
action)
* 1 tsp salt
* cup (200ml) milk, warmed
* cup (6oz /170g) butter, melted
* 4 eggs, at room temperature
* cup ( 80g/ 3oz) honey
* 1 tsp vanilla extract

1. In a large bowl add in your flour,

yeast and salt and mix well together.

2. In a separate jug, whisk together
the milk, eggs, honey, melted butter
and vanilla extract
3. Mix the wet into the dry with a
spatula until you form a wet loose
dough. Cover tightly with cling film
and lay a towel over the top..
4. Leave the rise at room temperature for 2-3 hours.

FOOD

5. Once doubled in size place the

dough in the fridge overnight,
roughly for 12 hours. The dough
will be loose but will firm up when
chilled. Dont try to work after the
3 hours, it needs to be chilled overnight. The dough can be kept for 3
days in the fridge.
6. To form your donuts: On a floured
surface, roll out your dough to of
an inch thick. Using a scone cutter
cut out your round pieces of dough.
7. Lay your donuts and donut holes
on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
8. Cover your donuts with a towel
and leave to rise again at room temperature for 20-30 minutes. You will
know when they are ready because
they will have puffed up.
9. Gently brush the donuts with
melted butter
10. Bake at 375oF (190oC) for 15
minutes. Keep a close eye on them
so they dont get too brown.
11. Once out of the oven dip your
donuts in the glazes or top with
your favorite sprinkles.

the souvenir shops around the area give such Spanish vibe. Kalesa rides are offered but if you dont want to spend much, e-trikes free rides will save the day.

Venice Piazza Mall, McKinley Hill

If youre not a fan of kalesa rides, you might want to try the gondolas
and enjoy the Italian streets in Venice Piazza Mall. Though some of
the areas are still under construction, the mall and the establishments
around the location are a must-see!

Maginhawa in Quezon City is the place for you. With a variety of restaurants, often themed, you can have an

Here are some top-notch places you can visit if you want to have that unique food adventure.

If you are a Harry Potter fan, then you
do not need to go far. The nook caf is a Harry Potter themed Coffee shop that will able
you to experience the magical world of Harry Potter. Nicole Guanio, owner of The Nook
Caf, is a self-proclaimed Harry Potter fan.

Iscreamist is an ice cream store located in

Magiting Street near in Maginhawa. It looks like a
real chemistry laboratory where chemists mix their
chemical solutions. They can only accommodate
10-15 people since the place is too small. The special thing about Iscreamist is that, they are using
liquid nitrogen in making their ice cream, which
gives ice berg or smoke effect to the ice cream.

The all time favorite Nutella ice cream
is available in Iscreamist. The taste of Nutella ice cream is not too sweet but balanced and
thats their goal; to offer ice cream that is not
too sweet. Aside from ice cream, they also offer
red velvet cupcakes, cheese cake etc. Each dessert ranges from 65-110 pesos only per servings.

She calls her coffee shop as a dream
caf. Customers can borrow books and
board/card games from the counter. They
could also use robes and broomsticks as seen
on the movie. The Nook Caf also offers a

MOBILE PHOTOJOURNALISM 101

BY JAENELLE M. ILAGAN

Lucky are the photo enthusiast and bloggers of this millennium because of the vast improvement in our technology today. High camera resolution mobile phones plus various photo editing apps are
available within grasp with the use of internet, making photography much more easier and convenient to
practice. The challenge now is capturing photos that has a story and that will definitely touch the heart of
its viewer. Its a question of what particular scene to take and how you will be able to capture that right
moment.

Heres the guidelines on how to apply mobile phone photojournalism:

ALWAYS BE
READY
LOOK FOR A
NEW ANGLE

Learn to love shooting
new angles. Sometimes, in order to bring out the uniqueness
of your photo, you have to adjust and try a different angle.
Add some spice and avoid
shooting at your normal view.
You may look weird of shooting, but you must start loving
it. And starting from now, you
must not just look for a better angle but for a new one.

RIGHT CHOICE OF
MOBILE APPS
PERFECT MOMENT
IS THE PERFECT
TIMING

Always prepare yourself and your phone to take good stories. Attentiveness is a must. If youre a photojournalist, be an observant and learn how the
society rotates every day. Dont be afraid of shooting but always know your limits.

LIGHT IS YOUR
SUPERPOWER

Direct Sunlight is not
just your basis for shooting;
it is the good ambiance, the
light towards on your subject.

Shadows and Contrast
are really matter for combination
of your composition and the story.
Lights served as your superpower
for you to know where to shoot.

FOCUS
ON PEOPLE

Capturing
people
as
your subject really improves your
photography skills.

People are always subjective, practice focusing on people in action. This make sense and
come up with better story and easy
for you to write a relative caption.

Any photo apps will do for editing your photos but download the
simple and best like proper adjusting of contrast, brightness and clarity.

Dont filter a lot and be more natural. Photography applications are more useful for creating accounts and for posting the photo like Instagram and VSCO cam; most popular app.

Nobodys perfect? But nevertheless street photography reveals the reality
life in society.

Moments of the truth defines how photojournalism is relevant to the perfections on each photo. Be brave enough to face the reality, practice, and capture a lot! :)

1. Set Your Goal

Know what you really want to do

and achieve. Write a checklist; make your
plans in pursuing it and making it possible.

2. Avoid Distractions
Youre on your first steps to achieving your goal
and there is no turning back! T here are a lot of
temptations and other opportunities but you must
look straight into your goal.

3. find motivation
Hard times are expected to come and there are times
that you might want to give up. Look for an inspiration
like searching for people who made their dreams come
true or look for people with the same goals as yours
(Seeking for help to persons with mutual dreams is not a
bad thing). If they can do it then so do you!

4.

Work on it

Do your best in whatever you do. Practice to perform

well. Failing once or twice are proof that you are trying.
Just keep on trying and never ever give up. Remember
the saying the Nothing great ever came that easy

5. Acknowledge
Once youre already there, always look back to acknowledge everyone that helped you made it. T he best goal is
not just achieving your goal it is helping and inspiring others
in achieving their dreams once you already have yours.
