Gourmand awards
Summary Program
Edouard Cointreau
There are no other cultural awards in the world that are so international, with 209
countries participating .with entries in the competition, even in film, television,
books or music.Only in sports the Olympics have so many countries, more than the United Nations. The
Gourmand Awards competition is free, and open to all, big or small, for sale or free, digital or print, private
or public, trade or selfpublished. Everyone gets the same respect. It is the work that receives an award, recognizing that il is nearly always team work. Special interest is given to work that has social value, and that can
be transmitted through generations in time, or through countries,
Jounalists often compare the Gourmand Awards to the Oscars for film. They are similar for glamour and the
impact of the media and television. In fact, the Gourmand Awards were inspired by the Olympics in scope
and process. As a result as in the Olympics, it is the participation that is important. It can even change your
life, on many levels, even if you do not win the top award.
Prsident The Gourmand Awards
The Impact of
the Gourmand Awards
- The Best in the World at the Gourmand Awards
are opinion leaders and experts who are the
guides to establish the real value of food and wine
- This is how the Gourmand Awards have helped
with great success in the past Sweden, Spain,
Malaysia, or even local areas in France build up
as food and wine tourism destinations. The awards
are this year in Yantai for wine in China, and Shandong food.
- Many winners are celebrated by their governments, national media and social networks. It
can change their life, and launch their career. A
number of national or international stars owe their
career to a Gourmand award
- The three top winners in a category are from
different countries . The three have the rights to
the Best in the World logo and sticker, and certificates.
- The winners get access to the media. They issue
press releases, and beccome very active on blogs
and social media. Television is often the first step,
immediatly after winning Best in the World. The
time difference with China works well for the winners to prepare their media effort after they win :
- Winners get more visibility in the market place,
and higher sales
- Translations and international trade rights open
for negotiations.

Gastronomy
and
food culture have
become key ingredients of the soft
power of countries.
The best diplomats
from Talleyrand to
Hillary Clinton use
them very effectively. Talleyrand is
said to have won
for France at the
dinner table at the
Congress of Vienna
in 2015 what Napoleon had lost on
the battle field of
Waterloo. So it is historical that the first presentation in
Europe by Ambassador Gonzales was in Vienna , to the
United Nations on March 18, 2016. The first presentation
in Asia will be in Yantai on May 29, 2016.
As said in the foreword to the book by Carlos
A.Anderson ," Peruvians define and identify themselves
with their food. It is not language as in the case of the
French, the British or the Germans. Gastronomy is the
element that allows Peru to stand out and compete with
other nations ". Gastronomic diplomacy is the use of
gastronomy with the purpose of promoting one country
commercially in another one. It is a concept developed
by the French ( not surprisingly ) and accepted by Americans, Australians, British, Japanese , Swedes, among
others. Gastronomy has become in a relatively short
time an important part of the economy in Peru. So the
future of Gastronomic Diplomacy is both commercial

There is no better
region to illustrate
concepts of wine quality than Bordeaux.
The heart of this presentation will comprise a
tutored tasting of a quintet of Mdoc red wines,
which have all been
awarded the recently relaunched Cru Bourgeois
classification.
These
distinctive wines demonstrate great individuality within
a family structure, and offer superb value.
Bordeaux, together with much of western France, was
under English rule for 300 years, and a pattern of trade
established. From the 17th century it was the Bourgeois
who bought much of the land suitable for high quality
viticulture in the Mdoc district. Today the award of the
Cru Bourgeois classification is given to chteaux on an
annual basis, after each wine has been tasted and assessed. This guarantees typicity and quality.
This is a sit down talk and tasting and will last for about
an hour. The presenter is Keith Grainger, International
Bordeaux Wine Educator and Winner of the Gourmand
Award for the Best Wine Education Book in the World,
1995 -2014.
Sacavin
The Guild of the Knights of the Sacavin is the oldest wine guild in France.
It was founded in 1904 at the Chateau of
Montreuil Bellay. It promotes the wines of
the Angers and Saumur area.
The inspiration for the Guild is writer
Francois Rabelais, born 500 years ago in
the Chinon area of the Loire Valley, close
to Saumur .He studied in Angers. The
current Grand Master is Pierre Aguilas.
A branch of the French Guild will be
created in China in June 2016. Tom Tao
Hsu from Canaan estate in Huailai Valley
will be its Grand Master. He will come
May 28 to Yantai and will present the
Sacavin with Guillaume Roussy, member
of the Sacavin , and ambassador of Saumur to its sister city of Penglai.

pollution
There is much less pollution than in most big cities,
thanks to the winds and the sea. Yantai and the
nearby peninsula have remained mostly agricultural, with limited heavy industry. The other big cities
are far.
Security
Foreigners feel very secure in Yantai, everywhere
and at all hours. It is a comfortable experience
for women, and for older peole, treated with respect.
YANTAI AND
SHANDONG
- Yantai is at the center of
the triangle Beijing- Shanghai - Seoul, to the East of
Beijing, on the Bohai sea.
- The district of Yantai has a population of 7 million.
The local economy is growing faster than the rest
of China, thanks to tourism, cars (GM), consumer
goods (LG), gold (100 tons/year), saphire, agriculture, and sea food.
- The province of Shandong has a population of 96
million. It is number one in
China for wheat, cotton,
gold and diamonds.
climate
The sea and the winds from the North give Yantai a
milder climate than Beijing, or Shanghai.
Temperatures parallel Catalunya or Provence most
of the year.
The best months are April - May - June, and September- October.
July August have some influence from Southern
winds with mild monsoon tropical rains.
The Winter sees a few days of snow, with a few very
cold days

regularly shares
its expertise by contributing to culinary magazines
such as Rgal, Journal de Ptissier (France),
So Good (Spain), Shibata (Japan), Chef Art
(Russia), and Nutriao (Brazil).
Hollywood studios have also focused their attention on Le Cordon Bleu. In 1954 they immortalized
Audrey Hepburn on screen when she visited the
Paris school, as part of the launch of the film Sabrina. In 2009, Le Cordon Bleu network of schools
played a role in the success of the film Julie & Julia,
which tells the story of the life of Le Cordon Bleu
Paris alumni Julia Child. In 2014, one of the books
was even the Indian Chefs source of inspiration in
the American dramatic comedy The Hundred-Foot
Journey.
Significant events have also marked the institutions history and enabled Le Cordon Bleu to gain
international recognition.
In 1995, Le Cordon Bleu was chosen by the Shanghai Ministry of Tourism to train the first ever students from the Peoples Republic of China at its
Paris School. The opening of a school in Shanghai
on April 27, 2015 is an example of a first joint-venture ever signed between the Chinese government
and a private entity, in the field of training.
This year, Le Cordon Bleu continues its expansion,
with half a dozen School openings planned over
the five continents. Rio de Janeiros government
have asked Le Cordon Bleu to open a school in
preparation for the 2016 Olympic Games, in which
twenty percent of scholarships are for students
from underprivileged backgrounds.
Le Cordon Bleu Paris has been unrelenting in its
commitment to welcome students from all over the
world. A major project is currently underway, on
the banks of the Seine, which will be one of the
most important culinary and hospitality institution
in Paris.
