Bible Reading: Luke 1:57-66; Eph. 2:11-22; Psalm 119:25-32; 1 Kings 6-7

In yesterdays passage (John 5:30-47) Jesus criticized the

Jews for failing to see Him in the Scriptures. Searching
the Scriptures isnt about knowledge alone. Searching
the Scriptures is about knowledge leading to devotion to
Christ. Today and tomorrow we will list some application
questions to apply in your personal Bible reading. The
goals of these questions are to draw your heart into a
proper worshipful response to God who is revealed in the
Scriptures.

Christianity is not an outside religion of external behaviors. Surely we are called to strive, to do, to act, to speak,
to behave in certain ways. And yet, it is not primarily
about these externals at all. The creed of Christ and his
disciples is a creed of the heart, a devotion of internal
transformation. This is why Paul prays that the eyes of
our heart would be enlightened and commands that we
be transformed by the renewing of our minds. This is
why Jesus warned the Pharisees, Hypocrites! You honor
me with your lips, but your hearts are far from me. This
is why God told Samuel, God sees not as man sees,
for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord
looks at the heart. In all of our striving, acting, speaking
and behaving, let us be sure that these externals are
flowing from the internals which catch Gods eye. Let us
be sure our lips are speaking from our heart, and let us
be sure that our transformation is an internal one.

1. What is the text asking me to believe about God and myself, sin and salvation, the world and the world to come?
2. What sin is this verse forbidding? What duty is this verse
commanding?
3. What grace, fruit, or gift of the is this passage calling
for?

For further study, read Eph 1, 2 Cor 3:18, Romans 12:2,

and 1 Sam 16:7

4. How should this verse impact my relationships God, my

family, my friends, my neighbors, my enemies?
5. Is this passage addressed to believers, un believers, hypocrites, doubters, etc.?
6. What does this teach me about my responsibilities as a
church member, a citizen, an employee?
7. Is there an example here Im being urged to avoid or follow?
8. What is there in this verse to draw me to worship?
9. Does this text admonish, rebuke, convict, or warn me? How
and why?
10. Does it encourage, comfort, console, or promise me? How
and why?
11. What is the verse asking me to question and examine?
12. Does this verse ask me to look at the past, the present, or
the future?
13. Is this verse addressing my mind, my emotions, my will, my
desires, or my conscience?
14. Is this verse focused on me as an individual or upon the
body of Christ, His church?
15. What is this verse intended to change in me, my family, my
church, my workplace, my world?

2 Tim 1:2 To Timothy, my beloved child. There is and

there ought to be a depth to Christian relationships. It has
been said that relationships are the currency of Gods
kingdom. When Paul wrote his letters to Timothy, there
was a glowing warmth, even in the greeting. Paul closes 2
Timothy, All who are with me send greetings to you. Greet
those who love us in the faith. When Paul said goodbye in
Acts 20, they prayed and cried, hugged and kissed, were
sad and followed him all the way to the ship. Relationships
within the church are not a surface hello and goodbye
kind of relationship. We are well pleased to share our very
souls with one another. Because we have been brought
together with one hope by one Spirit sharing the same
faith and the same Father and looking together to the
same Savior, our relationships with other believers are one
of the most critical elements of our life. They are not only
the seasoning that brings a depth of flavor to our lives, but
we become for one another the very wings upon which
we elevate our flight of spiritual maturity.
Read Eph 4:1-16 and ask yourself: What am I doing to cultivate my relationships with other believers?
