Past events

Peru has suffered many natural disasters such as landslides and

earthquakes.
The earthquake of August 10, 2014 happened in Ica.
The avalanche happened on the central road - in Lima city, which
flooded many houses.
On August 10, 2014 there was an earthquake in Ica city, where many
families lost their houses. Some of them lost their families being this
the saddest loss.
Many Peruvians help with things like clothes, food, water and others.
We never know when and where to expect the next earthquake, so be
prepared and aware on what to do.

An earthquake occurs because the plate tectonics move slowly and

continuously. They collide, move apart or slide past one another.
These movements finally can cause earthquakes.
Our country Peru - is located along the boundary of two tectonic
plates: the Nazca Plate and the South American Plate. The interface
between these two plates is located near the Peruvian coast. At a rate
of about 50 mm per year the South American Plate is moving towards
the Pacific Ocean over the Nazca Plate. That may not sound a lot but
it is enough to put huge strain on the Earth's crust.
