Are we making our life count? What kind of usual activities you do to make your life count? And, which
one do you prefer, develop yourself or developing others first? I did some research by asking same
questions to ten people and they answered, Develop myself first then developing the rest who need.
People get to be selfish, they think about their selves first without knowing that there is another way,
together we developed. As people get developed their knowledge and skills, they can also develop
others. We grow together. Then you are making your life count through developing others.
Contribute. I realized that contribute will give you everything. Just like an idiom, what you give is what
youll get returned. I do social project to develop one village located in isolated area and far from big
city in Indonesia. My team is making a business plan how to make people within this village could run
business independently. This has never been easy, though. Villages people keep complaining about bad
things happen to their life. My team has to encourage them to be more positive and optimist. After
passing through thick and thin, we know we are going to miss this unforgettable experience. We laugh,
we are having fun, we are inspired, and the most important thing, weve learned. I want all people in the
world to contribute. Contribute their energies, ideas, and anything you have to make this world gets
better. Contribution will give you more. Contribution will never fail, because what goes around comes
around.
I have mentioned me and my friends are doing social project. This is our way to develop others and
realized that we are developed too. And nothing more effective than get developed by developing others.
I am lacking of experienced, but I grew up as realized villages people need me. There are more people
out there that not as lucky as we are. Social project can be started by something near you. Increase
awareness through something happen around you. For example, collect rubbish near your area or teach
uneducated children for free. Do something, not for the sake of making money. Do contribute, because
the world is calling for your help. Be superhero, start from your area then widen your contribution
through the world. Your playing small doesnt change the universe.
Sustainable Development Goal No. 10 says reduce inequality within and among country. I think other
way to do contribution and reduce inequality by social project is go abroad. Understand other culture,
being part of the culture and stay some days in other country. I am also a part of international non-profit
organization AIESEC. AIESEC is a platform to increase students leadership through exchange. I have
seen many of my friends changed a lot since their arrival from going exchange. They went alone to other
country, do social project, and went back to Indonesia as new people. New people with skills,
knowledge, and leadership skills increased. Theyve learned because they believe their existence is
worth to others. Contribution is truly an important things needed to change the world.
Technology moves faster than we think, and that gives us opportunity to connect with people from the
other side of world easily. Connect and understand people from different background can reduce
inequality because we know how it feels to be other peoples positions. Sustainable development goal
should include appreciation for people who has contributed to do social project to other countries. It is

truly new definition of the goals because when people understand that they are all the same in this world
that is the time when peace comes. No more war, no more racism. We are all have the same right to live
peacefully on the earth. Peace surrounds, and then sustainable development is in front of our eyes.
Indonesia as developing country, still way far from developed countries from the side of industries,
national income, even human resources. But, Indonesia is part of the world. Indonesia has so many
natural resources, has so many beautiful places to be kept, and has so many population too. Indonesia is
number 4 with biggest population in the world and how Indonesia can go through globalization without
inequality? Indonesia itself has so many islands, so many traditional languages, and so many ethnics.
Different place, different culture. Every Indonesians must master minimum two languages, it is
Indonesia language and one is their ethnic language. Even, most Indonesians also master English
because on December 2015, ASEAN Economic Community start and Indonesians have to deal with
people from other country. ASEAN Economic Community allows people from South-East Asia
countries come to work in Indonesia without visa needed. This is where Indonesians are challenged.
Hard skills are needed to pass this but soft skills are the urgent things more than hard skills these days.
Soft skill is the new hard skill, they said. And it is true. How to get soft skills? Be a volunteer and
contribute to other people. Learned a lot of skills other than formal education are the best when we are
be volunteers. I have experienced this and I am addicted to do volunteer much. I wish I could stay
forever young and give maximum energy to contribute to society.
United Nation also held events that open for volunteer too. A great concept and hope organization in this
world do the same thing. Hope people understand that volunteer can give you much precious experience.
I hope I could express my point to UN forum someday. Go contribute, people. Be a volunteer, and
change the world. Are we making our life count? What kind of usual activities I do to make my life
count? Yes, I am. I contribute and make other people lives developed.
