THE PRESIDENTS
FLIGHT DECK

We love to share our passion, whether flying with a passenger or in a group. In order to facilitate more FUN for
our members, Chapter 237 needs a CAG: Commander,
Air Group - the informal name for the senior
US Navy officer who, as leader of the Carrier Air Wing, is
responsible for all the embarked squadrons, their aircraft
and their personnel aboard.

Take a moment and return to the golden days of the theater on the
big screen. Come and enjoy choosing from some great movie
choices along with plenty of aviation related videos to watch before hand. We also show EAAs monthly videos at this time. If
you would like to bring a lawn chair to relax in you may. If you
would like to bring an some food or beverages you may certainly
do so. If you just want to enjoy a movie without bringing anything
thats fine as well.

Please consider submitting an article for next month. To do so please contact, your newsletter editor, Josh and Lyle at newsletter@eaachapter237.org

EAA Partners with FAA, Dynon for STC Breakthrough

to Upgrade Safety, Reduce Costs for Aircra Owners
EAA, in partnership with Dynon Avionics and the FAA, has been
awarded a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) to install Dynons
EFIS-D10A in certain standard category aircraft. This breakthrough
STC enables the inexpensive, but very capable, avionics that have
served the experimental and light-sport worlds for decades to finally
have a pathway into the type-certificated market. The Dynon system
is a direct replacement for a vacuum-driven attitude indicator, and
the STC currently applies to the Cessna 150, 152, and 172 series and
the Piper PA-28 and PA-38 series. More aircraft are expected to be
added soon.
EAA worked extensively with the FAA
and Dynon to show compliance with regulations and develop a new certification
pathway for safety-enhancing equipment. The long track record of the D10A
product line and its conformity to a variety of industry standards helped it become the first device accepted by the
FAA in this pioneering effort. In addition
to Dynons proven reliability, the unit
delivers a wealth of information to the
pilot and even has an integrated angle of
attack feature (with the installation of an
optional probe). EAA installed the D10A
in its 1976 Cessna 172M and submitted
to a series of flight tests with an FAA
test pilot, which went flawlessly.

EAA intends to begin selling the STC as soon as possible,

hopefully later this spring, at a nominal price point in line
with its existing autofuel STC. In addition to the D10A,
more products are actively being explored as EAA is willing
to work with other manufacturers to bring down costs and
reduce barriers to recreational flying. Stay tuned for more
details!

Become an Aviation Legendand Possibly Rich!!!

Introducing the EAA Founders Innovation Prize! The goal of the prize is to keep the spirit of innovation alive in
the EAA community and leverage its creativity toward solving specific challenges facing the general aviation
community. The top finishers will receive a cash grant toward developing their product and prominent exposure at
AirVenture.
The 2016 EAA Founders Innovation Prize is a contest to solve the problem of fatal loss of control accidents in
amateur-built aircraft through innovation. The contest is intentionally open-ended, with the only stated goal to reduce fatalities from this type of accident in amateur-built aircraft dramatically over the next decade - 25% in the
next five years, 50% in the next ten.
Loss of control (LOC) in flight is the leading cause of fatal accidents in general aviation, particularly in amateurbuilt aircraft. Fatal LOC events include base-to-final stalls, departure stalls, loss of control while maneuvering,
spatial disorientation, and more. The 2016 contest seeks ways to solve this problem. The solution could be technical in nature or otherwise.
The judging criteria include: 1) Cost to implement, 2) Ease of Installation, 3) Wide Applicability to the GA
Fleet (with a focus on amateur-built aircraft), 4) Effectiveness in mitigating the problem.
The top five entries will be judged live at AirVenture 2016 during a Theater in the Woods event. The judging
panel is as follows, and these guys know what theyre talking about: Burt Rutan, Dick VanGrunsven (Vans RV
designer), Charlie Precourt (NASA astronaut), Rod Machado, and Dave Morss (preeminent civilian test pilot).
The winning individual or team will receive a prize of $25,000, with $10,000 awarded for second place, and
$5,000 for third. The five finalists will also be featured in EAA media leading up to the final award. Initial applications will be accepted through June 1st, 2016, and final submission of all material for consideration are due July
1st.
With all of the talented and innovative members in Chapter 237, I have no doubt one (or a team) of us shouldnt
be able to say, Show me the money!
