CRFAIR Job Posting

Position Title: Communications and Event Assistant

The Capital Region Food and Agriculture Initiatives Roundtable (CRFAIR) is recruiting a temporary, parttime Communications and Event Assistant for up to 16 weeks. This position is partially funded through
the Canada Summer Jobs Program. As a result, all applicants must be between 15 and 30 years of age
and a full time student intending to return to school on a full-time basis in the coming academic year.

General Description

CRFAIR is a not-for-profit organization that acts as a coordinating backbone to a network of food, farm
and health organizations that are working to promote healthy and sustainable food systems in the
Capital Region. To learn more about our work, visit www.crfair.ca. Currently, we are seeking a
resourceful, detail-oriented student to assist in the planning, development and delivery of the regional
Flavour Trails event. The position will also be a key contributor to the implementation of CRFAIRs
communications and network building strategies.

Role and Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of CRFAIRs Operations Manager, the
Communications and Event Assistant is responsible for planning, implementing and promoting CRFAIR
events, most significantly the Regional Flavour Trails (http://www.flavourtrails.com/). The position will
also support the roll out of CRFAIRs communications strategy and help to develop the Good Food
Network, a collaborative initiative involving numerous regional actors to bring about positive food
system change. Finally, the role will engage with and provide support to the project teams working on
CRFAIRs youth initiatives. This is an excellent opportunity to get involved in the growing movement to
change our food system for the better while gaining valuable experience with event planning and
community engagement.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assist with planning, administering, implementing, and delivering the Flavour Trails Program and
other CRFAIR events.
2. Coordinate with participating vendors and the public.

3. Assist with the development of event sponsorships and other resource development activities.
4. Coordinate volunteers and student interns.

5. Assist with the development of promotional campaigns, utilizing web-based, print, social media
and earned media
6. Assist with the design and development of posters and event-related materials. Create and
update website content.

7. Collaborate with staff and contractors to produce program evaluations and detailed final
reports.

8. Coordinate food and location logistics as necessary, liaising with vendors across a diverse set of
sites and activities

9. Coordinate on-site activities, including preparing the concession, activity and community group
areas; oversee the setup of related equipment, electricity, banners, decorations; adheres to
timelines and schedules; answers participant, vendor and public enquiries.
10. Prepare project summaries and assist with program evaluation activities.
11. Assist with the development of a network member database.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Education and/or experience related to planning programs, special events, fundraising and
working with the community
Demonstrated interest in healthy, local and sustainable food systems
Experience with community engagement in the not-for-profit setting
Project management and major events coordination

An equivalent combination of skills and experience may be considered

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

Ability to work independently and as a member of a team

Strong interpersonal skills

Proficient in the use of word processing and spreadsheet software

Ability to work well under pressure and deadlines

Strong organizational skills


Valid BC Drivers license

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Use of a vehicle and home office is required
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Temporary Term: June 6 to September 2, 2016. Required to work irregular hours (days/evenings/weekends)
Compensation is up to $12 per hour, 40 hours per week over the employment term.
