Evaluation question 3:

Throughout this project, audience feedback has played an important

part in the creation and final product of both our music video and
my personal ancillary products. By receiving and taking in feedback
from a whole range of different audiences I was able to adapt my
final piece to ensure it was as professional as possible.
Pitch: The first feedback I received during the process of creating
our music video was for our 25 word pitch. The pitch was to express
our initial video ideas to our peers. By receiving feedback, we were
able to alter our ideas to suit the appropriate target audience.
Comments such as:

enabled us to expand on these original ideas. We answered

questions that were raised as a result of the feedback, and used
these questions to adapt our planning. Our group welcomed any
feedback, particularly at this early stage, and receiving it from our
peers was extremely helpful as they are included in our target
audience age range of 18-25. Questions such as Phoebes of
whether our video would be performance based or illustrative
opened our eyes to elements of our video that we may have not yet
thought of prior to receiving such feedback. Sachins question of
what our band members would wear enabled us to begin planning
much earlier than we may have otherwise. Overall, the peer
feedback from our pitch can only be described as having a positive
effect on our planning and thus our final product.

Digipak: I received further feedback when I published my draft

digipak to my group blog. Also with this ancillary text I was able to
receive teacher feedback, to go alongside that from my peers.
Although feedback from my teacher could not be classified as my
target audience, it was greatly valued and could be argued that it
added a more experienced view of my product. Comments such as
these below offered an alternate viewpoint of my work, and
therefore emphasised elements that I maybe wouldnt have noticed
then influencing me to adapt my product to suit my target
audience.

Multiple peers commented on the placement of the barcode on the

back cover of my digipak, as they felt it was unusual to see it
positioned anywhere other than the (usually bottom) corner.
Another issue raised was the choice of font and colour for the album
title. A few peers, namely Nathan in this selection of comments,
pointed out that the album title text was very faint and didnt stand
out much from the background of the photo I had taken. Other
feedback praised elements of my digipak such as the recurring
theme of obscured faces and the colour scheme. I took the

constructive criticism on board, however I decided against the

suggestions to relocate the bar code and alter the title font. This is
because I felt that with the barcode parallel to the text box my back
cover flowed well. Also with the album title, I wished my target
audience to remember the album from its artwork and did not
want a large or garish title to detract from this.
Advert: Just as I did with my digipak, I published my draft advert to
my blog and received peer and teacher feedback. This aided the
evolution of my advert greatly, as it provided me with the
opportunity to reassess it from others viewpoints. Comments such
as these below gave me access to an insight from my target
audience age.

More frequent criticisms were made in reference to the colour

scheme and choice of font. When altering my final advert, I did
decide to relocate and remove some text, however I kept the font
and colour scheme the same. My reason of choice for this was the
wish for continuity across both my digipak and advert and as the
colour scheme and font matched, I decided to overlook these
comments. However, I did appreciate all feedback greatly as it did
aid in the development of my ancillary texts.
Video: After my group uploaded our draft music video, we received
feedback from our teacher. On the whole, we were unhappy with our

draft, but our wish to create a more professional final video along
with constructive criticism from our teacher gave us the pointers
that we needed in order to make a successful final music video. The
feedback included:
- Avoid using a fisheye lens for the entirety of the filming
- Include more shots of the lead singer
- Film in as much/the best lighting possible
By evaluating the comments above, we planned our second filming
attempt and attempted to put them into action.
Overall, my experience regarding feedback throughout the process
of creating my media coursework texts (both video and ancillary)
has been wholly positive. All criticisms and praises were taken into
account in order to create the most professional products possible.
