13. Category 5e/6 cable- is a standardized cable for Gigabit Ethernet and
other network physical layers that is backward compatible with the
Category 5/5e and Category 3 cable standards
14. Binder Groups- Cable pairs are typically arranged under the cable
sheath in binder groups
15. Hybrid/ Composite Cable- An assembly of two or more cables (of the
same or different types or categories) covered by one overall sheath/ An
RCA connector, sometimes called a phono connector or cinch connector, is
a type of electrical connector commonly used to carry audio and video
signals.
16. Pulling Cables- A phrase used to describe the act of running network
cable from one location to another.
17. Wavelengths of Light- the distance between two consecutive
compressions or rarefactions of a light wave is called its wavelength.
18. EMI- (electromagnetic interference) is the disruption of operation of an
electronic device when it is in the vicinity of an electromagnetic field (EM
field) in the radio frequency (RF) spectrum that is caused by another
electronic device.
19. Optic-Fiber Strand- A thin glass strand designed for light transmission.
A single hair-thin fiber is capable of transmitting trillions of bits per second.
In addition to their huge transmission capacity, optical fibers offer many
advantages over electricity and copper wire.
20. Index of Refraction- In optics the refractive index or index of refraction n
of an optical medium is a dimensionless number that describes how light,
or any other radiation, propagates through that medium
21. Cable Jacket - A protective outer covering for a cable. Depending on
the intended use for the cable and the operational environment, it may
protect against moisture, abrasion, magnetic fields, radiation, and so on.
Some cables have more than one jacket. Also called cable sheath.
22. Cladding Size - A protective or insulating layer fixed to the outside of a
building or another structure.
23. Multifiber Cables- A fiber-optic cable having two or more fibers, each of
which is capable of serving as an independent optical transmission
channel.
24. Differential Mode Delay - the difference in the time delays amongst the
fiber's propagating modes caused by imperfections or no ideality of the
fiber refractive index profile.
25. Chromatic Dispersion - In fiber optic transmissions, chromatic
dispersion is a term used to describe the spreading of a light pulse as it
travels down a fiber when light pulses launched close together (high data
rates) spread too much and result in errors and a loss of information.
