Description
In a production facility at the degussa plant in the Chemical Park Marl,
precise reactant metering during the synthesis of an alcohol is excep-
tionally important for the process management.
At the measuring point, the fluid is conveyed with a high pressure pump at
> 250 bar overpressure and a mass flow rate of up to 500 kg/h.
In the past, the flow measurement was realized at the inlet of the high
pressure pump with a Coriolis flowmeter. The strong pressure fluctuations
caused by the pump resulted in significant measuring irregularities.
In addition, the formation of crystalline deposits inside the pipe made
regular maintenance necessary.
FLUXUS® ADM 8027 is a clamp-on flowmeter. No cutting into the pipe
system is needed for installation, the ultrasonic flow transducers must
simply mounted onto the outer wall of the pipe. The measurement is not
pressure sensitive. In this case, this means that the flow measurement
can be made at the outlet of the high pressure pump without incurring any
additional costs.
As the measurement takes place in an explosion hazard area, the ATEX
certified FLUXUS® ADM 8027-S with Q4N-Ex-transducers is used in this
special application.
The pilot project has been running continuously and trouble-free since
August of 2003. Up to now, no maintenance has been necessary.
The FLUXUS® ADM 8027-S had already been successfully tested by the
degussa subsidiary for flow measurement of process gas at P > 250 bar
and in the sump circuit at P > 250 bar and T > 100 °C.
