All assessments which students are required to submit will have a due date and time specified on the Unit Outline.
Accepting late submission of assignments or other work will be determined by the unit coordinator or Head of School and will
be specified on the Unit Outline.
If late submission of assignments or other work is not accepted, students will receive a penalty of 100% after the due date and
time ie a zero mark for the late assessment.
If late submission of assignments or other work is accepted, students will be penalised by ten percent per calendar day for a
late assessment submission (eg a mark equivalent to 10% of the total allocated for the assessment will be deducted from the

marked value for every day that the assessment is late). This means that an assignment worth 20 will have two marks deducted
per calendar day late. Hence if it was handed in three calendar days late and marked as 12/20, the student would receive 6/20.
An assessment more than seven calendar days overdue will not be marked. Work submitted after this time (due date plus
seven days) may result in a Fail - Incomplete (F-IN) grade being awarded for the unit.
Assessment extension
A student wishing to delay the completion or submission of an assessment task after the original published date/time (eg
examinations, tests) or due date/time (eg assignments) must apply for an assessment extension using the Assessment Extension form
(available from the Forms page at http://students.curtin.edu.au/administration/) as prescribed by the Academic Registrar. It is the
responsibility of the student to demonstrate and provide evidence for exceptional circumstances beyond the student's control that
prevented them from completing/submitting the assessment task.
The student will be expected to lodge the form and supporting documentation with the unit coordinator before the assessment
date/time or due date/time. An application may be accepted up to five working days after the date or due date of the assessment
task where the student is able to provide an acceptable explanation as to why he or she was not able to submit the application prior
to the assessment date. An application for an assessment extension will not be accepted after the date of the Board of Examiners'
meeting.

Additional information
Textbooks
A document providing advice on the use of textbooks to support the learning of Engineering Mechanics 100 is mounted on
Blackboard, and a list of recommended reference books is also indicated at the 'Learning Resources' section in this unit outline.
Teaching Weeks
All students should note that 'Teaching Weeks' refer to the actual unit teaching periods (i.e. the 'Tution Free Weeks' are excluded).
These are numbered differently to the "Weeks" shown in Curtin Academic Calendar.
Important Notice on the Exam Assessment
Please be advised that there is no supplementary assessment for this unit. If a student fails this unit, he/she is required to repeat the
same unit including all of the assessment tasks.
Students may be granted a deferred assessment following a formal application. Deferred assessments for semester 1, 2014 will be
held on 21-23rd July 2014.
Failure to attend the examination/assessment on the day and time set will result in a fail grade for this unit. Under no circumstances
will alternative arrangements be made to suit individuals.
Scientific Calculators
All students enrolled in EFY units that require examination assessment will be issued with a HP10s or HP10s+ Scientific Calculator. This
is the only approved calculator to be used in examinations for these units.
The calculator can be collected from the Assignment and Enquiry Office located on Level 2 of building 204 from Teaching Week 1.
You will need to present your ID card for collection.
Please note that only one calculator will be issued per student and any replacement calculators are the responsibility of the student.
Attendance at Laboratories
It is mandatory that all students wear STEEL CAPPED SAFETY BOOTS to ALL LABORATORIES. These must be leather upper boots
and meet the Australian Standard AS/NZS 2210.
Enrolment
It is your responsibility to ensure that your enrolment is correct - you can check your enrolment through the eStudent option on
OASIS, where you can also print an Enrolment Advice.

Student Equity
There are a number of factors that might disadvantage some students from participating in their studies or assessments to the best
of their ability, under standard conditions. These factors may include a disability or medical condition (e.g. mental illness, chronic
illness, physical or sensory disability, learning disability), significant family responsibilities, pregnancy, religious practices, living in a
remote location or another reason. If you believe you may be unfairly disadvantaged on these or other grounds please speak to the
Student Equity Advisor Team member in your Faculty. Contact details are at: http://eesj.curtin.edu.au/contact.html
You can also contact Counselling and Disability services: http://www.disability.curtin.edu.au or the Multi-faith services:

It is important to note that the staff of the university may not be able to meet your needs if they are not informed of your individual
circumstances so please get in touch with the appropriate service if you require assistance. For general wellbeing concerns or advice
please contact Curtin's Student Wellbeing Advisory Service at: http://unilife.curtin.edu.au/student_wellbeing_service.htm
The tutorial session has been replaced with a Workshop wherein the students will actively participate.
The Workshop time has been extended to 2 hours per week
One hour per week of lecture time has been moved to a combination of Workshop instruction and Online Media.
