INTRODUCTIONS
This Specification includes clauses which replace or supplement those in QCS Section 6 Part 10 in
addition to contract specific requirements as indicated on Tender Drawings. This specification is to be read
in conjunction with the corresponding parts of Qatar Construction Specification QCS 2010: Section 6, Part
10, Traffic Signs, Markings and Studs.
This specification must be read in conjunction with the contract documents including Tender Design
Drawings, Tender clarifications, Contract agreement and any other document forming part of the contract.
The priority of application of this specification shall be initially given to Tender Drawings and then to this
Specification followed by QCS 2010 and Lusail Particular Specification, latest revision. Where a question
remains on which requirement is the more stringent, the Contractor shall submit the issue to the
Engineer/Lusail in writing. The decision of the Engineer/Lusail shall be considered to be final
The Contractor shall, at its own cost and risk, ensure that the design and the execution of the Works and
completed Works shall comply with the Project specifications and the technical standards of the Qatar
Authorities, QCS 2010; accordingly any error, omission, deficiency, defect or damage to be under the
Contractors responsibility.
The following section includes clauses which are prefixed by the section number of Qatar Construction
Specification, QCS 2010. For example clause 6.10.2.5 in this specification refers to clause 10.2.5 of
Section 6 of the QCS 2010.

SECTION 6 ROADWORKS

ADVANCE AND FAR ADVANCE DIRECTIONAL SIGNS.

GENERAL

Insert the following at the end of Subsection 10.2.5 Scope of Work:


Section 1.3 to 1.6 of the QTM shall be supplemented by Chapter 5. Guide Sign of Dubai Traffic Control
Devices Manual (TCDM) 2004. If any contradictions occur between the QTM and Dubai TCDM the QTM
shall take precedence.
Placement locations for all Far Advance Direction Signs (FADS), Advanced Direction Signs (ADS),
Direction Signs (DS) and Route Confirmatory Signs (RCS) shall remain in accordance with Section 1.7Sitting of Directional Signs of the QTM.
Contractor to Co-ordinate with Lusail and include Lusail-wide way finding strategy and relevant
specifications to be followed for implementation.
Once the design has been consented by the Engineer, the submission will be sent to Ashghal O&M for
Approval.

QATAR ROUTE MARKER AND TRAILBLAZING SIGNING SYSTEM
Route Marker Signs shall remain as per currently shown within the existing Qatar Road Network and
as detailed below in Figure 1.

CHARACTER SIZE SIGN DESIGN


Road signage letter I character sizes shall be as per the requirements within QTM. Acceptable reductions
in letter I character sizes for use on overhead directional signs are detailed below in Figure 2.

a. Roads Outer Doha: on the main road X-Height 250mm, Alpha Height 375mm for FADA, ADS & DS
o the service and crossing road X-Height 150mm, Alpha Height 255mm for the cantilever sign & ZHeight 75mm, Alpha Height 127.5mm for the Flag Sign (FS).
b. Road in Doha: on the main road X-Height 200mm, Alpha Height 340mm for FADA, ADS & DS o
the service and crossing road X-Height 150mm, Alpha Height 255mm for the cantilever sign & ZHeight 75mm, Alpha Height 127.5mm for the Flag Sign (FS).

SIGNAGE MOUNTI NG HEIGHT


Minimum mounting heights shall be as per the requirements within QTM with the following supplementary
information detailed in Figure 3 below.

a. 1500mm for General Signs, increased to 2100mm when located above Pedestrian Footpaths or Cycle
ways
b. 1800mm for the Flag Signs (FS)

GANTRY OR CANTILEVER DESIGN


The Consultant shall allow for an additional increase of 25% of the approved sign face area within their
structural calculations for the design of overhead cantilever and portal signage gantries to allow for future
amendments to the signage requirements. This increase excludes any other additional provisions the
Consultant has allowed for any future ITS devices and equipment. A typical overhead cantilever sign is
shown below Figure 4.
