1.

Identify whether there are any elements of systems

engineering that distinguishes it from general engineering. How
does it relate to systems thinking?
The elements that are used from general engineering to system engineering
are the process of knowledge and what tools are required to solve complex
issues. And system thinking is combined with general and system engineering
to gain better understanding of the problem and the structure.
2. Why is the definition of system operational requirements
important? What type of information is included?
Operational requirements are important because it identify the essential
capabilities, associated requirements, performance measures, and the
process or series of actions to be taken in effecting the results that are
desired in order to address mission area deficiencies, evolving applications or
threats, emerging technologies, or system cost improvements(Mitre, 2016).
This helps to understand the user needs by checking the system operational
requirements. It is also helps in finding out the visions, expectations,
performance, requirements and challenges of the system.
3. What is meant by functional analysis? When in the system life
cycle is it accomplished? What purpose does it serve? Identify
some of the benefits derived. Can a functional analysis be
accomplished for any system?
Functions are discrete actions necessary to achieve the systems objectives. It
is used in the system life cycle, to transform the functional, performance,
interface and other requirements that were identified through requirements
analysis. The benefit of functional analysis is it allows identifying the physical
components and the building blocks, which constitute the future product, and
how they are interrelated to build up the functional architecture of the future
product. No Functional Analysis is applied at different levels of subsystem
levels. (Intechopen, 2016)
4. Distinguish between User and System requirements. Is the
distinction important? Why?
A user requirement refers to a function that the user requires a system to
perform. For example, a user may require a function to calculate interest over a
set time period in a bank system. Therefore, the requirements are set by a client
and confirmed before system development.
A system requirement is a more technical requirement, often relating to
hardware or software required for a system to function. From the bank example,
system requirements would require the system to run on a server so the users
can use the function to calculate interest. System requirements are more
commonly used by developers throughout the development life cycle.
