General Timeline

March 7th and 8th auditions

March 8th callbacks
March 11th- Cast list will be posted by this date at the latest!
Who is at my audition?
1st Auditions are not in front of other students; you will be auditioning in
front Mr. Connor, Mrs. Reed, Mr. Pena, and drama alumni. We take notes
on your performing strengths while you audition and try to figure out what
role would be the best for you. Call backs will be with all actors, where we
will mix and match various people to try and determine the right people
for the right role. Not being called back for a certain role does not mean
you arent in consideration!
What happens at dance call?
The choreographers will teach a short routine to all auditioning students.
After running through this routine several times, you will be asked to
perform this routine in groups of 6 or 7 students. Do the best you can and
most of all, if you mess up, just keep going and keep smiling we all mess
up in dances, but the audience wont notice if we dont show it on our
faces!
What are you looking for in casting?
Certain roles must be strong singers; certain roles must be strong dancers;
certain roles need strong acting and others need a combination of the
three. We are looking for the best fit for each part, regardless of grade
level or previous experience.
What happens if I am not cast? Not all students will be cast in a lead role
and students need to prepare themselves for this possibility. However,
ALL STUDENTS WHO AUDITION WILL BE IN THE SHOW!

ROSIE

Kim MacAfee, Albert, is what going to send you back to college with the biggest hit song this
business has ever seen! Its called One Last Kiss... I know youve never heard it, because you
havent written it yet! But when you do and when that one last kiss is from Conrad Birdie on his
way to the big cold Army for two long years and when he gives that kiss to one of his fans
chosen at random from one million two hundred thousand hysterical teen-agers, itll make Mr.
Birdie the hottest soldier since Joan of Arc!
KIM MACAFEE
You were silly to worry, Hugo. Conrad Birdie may be a great public figure but he doesnt make
me feel all dizzy and faint when I think of him. Only my steady does that. Why even when I say
his name I dont feel a thing...Listen. Conrad Birdie. Conrad Birdie... (it hits her) Conrad
Birdie!!
MAMA aka MRS. PETERSON
(Alberts Mother, speaking to him)Dont worry about me, sonny... Im just a little faint from
taking the subway....(he asks why she didnt take a taxi) Taxi! What do I need with taxis?... Ill
leave the taxis for my successful son. A mother can ride crowded in a dirty subway full of
people who wouldnt give you a seat if your life depended on it but whats the difference;
nowadays a mother is lower than dirt, anyway! Heres the money I saved from not taking the
taxi; buy some candy with it.
MR. MACAFEE
I have tried to run this house on a democratic basis. I have extended the privilege of selfdetermination to both the woman I married, and the children I have sired... the vote has been
denied no one for reason of age, sex, or political affiliations. There has been no taxation without
representation, and open covenants have been openly arrived at! Last night I gave up my room
to a guest who repeatedly referred to me as Fats.. Telephone calls were made on my phone to
New York, Chicago, Fairbanks Alaska and Hong Kong! Outside my window three harpies
shrieked We Love You Conrad four thousand seven hundred and twenty-three times... and now,
Ive lots two fried eggs...Gentlemen, the democracy is over!
CONRAD There arent any longer scenes, so be prepared to do your best pseudo-Elvis
rockstar swagger when you come on to sing. You should have some banter for your audience
before you start singing!

Bye Bye Birdie!
