Gas purification

For the highest level of purity at point-of-use

High purity gases are used in many areas of industry

and laboratories, for example for analytical purposes.
In some cases certain small impurities such as oxygen,
moisture, hydrocarbons or sulphur compounds can
still interfere with the sensitive measurements.
Messer offers a range of gas purification systems
for these tasks, which remove specific impurities
from the gas flow even below the detection limits
in the lowest ppb ranges.
The standardized modules of the gas purification system
can be used universally, quickly and safely in laboratories as well as industrial applications, and are designed
to be particularly user-friendly. The different cartridge

sizes allow small gas quantities in the millilitre range as

well as several hundred cubic meters per hour to be
purified without difficulty. The processes are based on
chemisorption or physisorption.
The size of a gas purification system depends on the
requirements. The following combinations are possible,
depending on the specific task:
large R20 or R200 containers in a central gas
purification system
large R20/R200 containers or large aluminium
cartridges in process lines
large aluminium cartridges or small aluminium or glass
cartridges at the point of use

Gas purification directly at the point-of-use or

centrally for all applications
Small cartridges provide the ideal purification systems
for protecting the columns of a gas chromatograph
against oxygen and moisture. At the same time they
remove any impurities caused by the gas supply
system. By means of their colour change Oxysorb glass
cartridges indicate reliably the necessity to be replaced.
Higher gas volumes for several consumers at the same
time or smaller process lines can be purified by large
aluminium cartridges without difficulty. The use of a
double mounting ensures operation without interruption
by changing over from loaded cartridge to unloaded one.

R20 (operating pressure < 25 bar) or R200 (operating
pressure < 230 bar) containers have been qualified by
the ability to be economically regenerated unlike the
gas purification cartridges for laboratories. Each large
cylinder is designed for a flow rate of 100 m/h. The
flow rate can easily be increased by connecting several
containers in parallel.

Oxisorb cartridges SPECTROMOL

Oxisorb gas purification systems are designed for the
removal of oxygen and moisture from gas flows.
The applied processes are
Chemisorptions: Oxygen is chemically bound to the absorption material and therefore
permanently removed from the gas flow. Silica gel with chromium oxide is used as
absorption material. As a side affect, moisture is removed by physisorption.
Physisorption: Moisture is being physically bound to Silica gel and therefore removed
from the gas flow.

Hydrosorb cartridges SPECTROMOL

Hydrosorb gas purification systems are designed for
the removal of moisture from gas flows.
The applied process is based on Physisorption:
moisture (and carbon dioxide) are physically bound to a porous mass and therefore
permanently removed from the gas flow. Molecular sieve 5 is used as absorption
material.
Caution: Also carbon dioxide is adsorbed and displaced again by moisture.
