(Database as a Service)
What Is It?
Oracle Database Cloud Service (Database as a Service) gives you a complete Oracle database
instance in a virtual machine (VM). Its the same familiar Oracle databasenow in a cloud.

You have full access to the features and operations that are available with Oracle Database, but
Oracle hosts the VM and cloud storage. And you can perform some database maintenance and
management operations with the easy-to-use cloud portal or command-line interface.

Database Security
Oracle Database Cloud Service has rigorous security practices and procedures that are based on
decades of Oracle database experience.
What Is It?
Why Database in the
Cloud?
Its closed off and secure by default, but you have the flexibility to open network ports as needed.
To access the database in your VM, you can use port opening, SSH tunneling, SQL*Net, web
access, and more. And Oracle Compute Cloud Service security rules and lists give you flexible,
enterprise-level security.

Manage
Fully manage your database or have
Oracle manage standard database
operations, such as backup, patching, and
upgrade.
Monitor
Many tools exist to monitor an Oracle
Database instance, including database
options directly accessible from Enterprise
Manager Database Express 12c and
Enterprise Manager 11g Database Control.
In addition to all the standard databasemonitoring tools, Oracle Database Cloud
Service includes a monitoring application
that resides on a Database Cloud Service
instances VM. This monitor provides a
wide spectrum of information about VM
resource usage and Oracle Database
status.
With Exadata Service, you get extreme Exadata performance and powerful technologies, such as multitenant databases, In-Memory Databases, Real Application Clusters (RAC), InfiniBand Fabric, Smart Flash
Cache, Smart Flash Log, and SQL off-loading to storage.
Mission-Critical Security
Strict security is enforced with InfiniBand
partitioning, database encryption, and the
use of virtual machines to isolate the Oraclemanaged hardware from your Oracle Database
implementation. By default, data is encrypted in
flight and at rest. Client access is via SSH, iPSec
VPN, and encrypted Oracle Net connections.
