Global

warming
SUBJECT_ACADEMIC DEBATE

Introduction of global warming.

Global warming is a natural phase of Earth, caused by
some Solar Activities by Sun. We human don't have to
bother about it. Some of the environmentalist says that
this is because of the CO2 we are emitting into the
environment, but the reality is that we are just
contributing towards 1% to 10% of actual global
warming. Global warming, also called climate change, is
the term used to describe any weather event. For
example, if the number of tornados is a few more then
average, it will be said that this is due to global warming.
However, if the number of tornados is a few less then
average, it will be said to be because of climate change.
The purposed fixes for global warming and climate
change is heavy taxation of Americans and eventual
transformation of America into a communist country
If the actual cause of Global Warming is CO2 emitted by
the humans then why Global Warming occurs on other
planets. Just Google for "Global Warming on other
planets" and see the results, there are no humans on
other planets.
Having too little CO2 in the environment will cause for
the plants to die more early, more over it also cools down
the temperature on earth.
Having too much CO2 (obviously, not caused by humans.
Mostly generated in the Sea/Oceans) will lead to Green
House effect and will lead in increasing the temperature
on Earth.

So, the best is to plant more trees so that there would be

a balance for the consumption of CO2 on the planet.
I personally think that instead of thinking on this baseless
issue try to think on what if Nuclear War broke out in the
world, it will destroy Earth more rapidly.
So, next time whenever somebody says you about global
warming, just ignore it. Global warming is the observed
increase in the average temperature of the Earth's
atmosphere and oceans in recent decades.
The Earth's average near-surface atmospheric
temperature rose 0.6 0.2 Celsius (1.1 0.4
Fahrenheit) in the 20th century. The prevailing scientific
opinion on climate change is that "most of the warming
observed over the last 50 years is attributable to human
activities" [1].
The increased amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2) and
other greenhouse gases (GHGs) are the primary causes
of the human-induced component of warming. They are
released by the burning of fossil fuels, land clearing and
agriculture, etc. and lead to an increase in the
greenhouse effect.
The measure of the response to increased GHGs, and
other anthropogenic and natural climate forcings is
climate sensitivity. It is found by observational [2] and
model studies. This sensitivity is usually expressed in

terms of the temperature response expected from a

doubling of CO2 in the atmosphere. The current literature
estimates sensitivity in the range 1.54.5 C (2.78.1 F).
Models referenced by the Intergovernmental Panel on
Climate Change (IPCC) project that global temperatures
may increase by between 1.4 and 5.8 C (2.5 to 10.5 F)
between 1990 and 2100. The uncertainty in this range
results from both the difficulty of estimating the volume
of future greenhouse gas emissions and uncertainty
about climate sensitivity.
An increase in global temperatures can in turn cause
other changes, including a rising sea level and changes in
the amount and pattern of precipitation. These changes
may increase the frequency and intensity of extreme
weather events, such as floods, droughts, heat waves,
hurricanes, and tornados. Other consequences include
higher or lower agricultural yields, glacier retreat,
reduced summer stream flows, species extinctions and
increases in the ranges of disease vectors. Warming is
expected to affect the number and magnitude of these
events; however, it is difficult to connect particular
events to global warming. Although most studies focus
on the period up to 2100, warming (and sea level rise
due to thermal expansion) is expected to continue past
then, since CO2 has an estimated 50 to 200 year long
average atmospheric lifetime [3].
Only a small minority of climate scientists discount the
role that humanity's actions have played in recent

warming. However, the uncertainty is more significant

regarding how much climate change should be expected
in the future, and there is a hotly contested political and
public debate over what, if anything, should be done to
reduce or reverse future warming, and how to deal with
the predicted consequences.
The term 'global warming' is a specific case of the more
general term 'climate change' (which can also refer to
'global cooling', such as occurs during ice ages). In
principle, 'global warming' is neutral as to the causes, but
in common usage, 'global warming' generally implies a
human influence. However, the UNFCCC uses 'climate
change' for human-caused change, and 'climate
variability' for other changes [1]. Some organizations use
the term 'anthropogenic climate change' for humaninduced changes.

Detail of explanation of global warming..

Global warming is a very complex collection of many
effects
this text only covers some aspects of global warming
,mainly agriculture i.e. Effects of deforestation and
subsequent man made desertification
water and air pollution such as caused by
industrial contamination ,the contaminating effects of the

cities(the internal combustion engine) ,are other stories,

and all of these are also man made ,such as the high
industrial chimneys pumping contamination into the
clouds and the burning of tires, some of this pollution has
been found in the ice in the polar regions
there are natural cycles in the planets life
but a lot is influenced by mans existence ,and this is
increasing with overpopulation, putting strains on Natural
resources and increasing contaminations as well as
destructions of essential components the ensure living
conditions for all life forms
climate change is caused in great parts by desertification
,and most desertification is caused by man
the thinner ozone layer helps to speed this up.and this is
caused mainly by air pollution ,also as a result of mans
actions
DEFORESTATION
in the past
the Building of the Spanish Armada deforrested Spain
the Phoenician trading fleet turned Lebanon in a dessert
Ganges Khan put everything to the sword and torch, then
filled the wells with sand,
the sun finished of the job and whole countries turned to
wastelands.
Today ,
Slash and burn destroys the protective vegetation (which

helps to form the soil ),

leaving it open to the Sun ,and then ,wind and, water
erosion.
The Plough turns the soil ,killing micro-biotic life
(essential to soil building) and accelerates the drying
out .
Pressures of the :vehicles, cattle and rain impact brings
the salt to the surface.
Mono cultures ,aided by chemicals Exhaust and pollutes
the soil .
Adding to this the effects of overgrazing has resulted in
large scale desertification.
and there is less and less water (because of
deforestation),to irrigate this production ,Farmers
are over pumping deep carbon aquifers
and plowing more and more unstable lands going into the
jungles and onto mountain slopes
expanding populations and expanding farming ,that has
to keep pace with the expanding populations are very
strong forces that encroach upon the rainforest's
clearing them for farming and settlement areas .
Rainforest's always are in third world countries and
always in third world countries corruption and the need
for money s highest
in North Africa ,India ,Mexico ,millions of people are
effected by land loss and desertification and some have
died as a result
,the Sahara is growing by 7 kilometers a year

and most of the desserts we know are a results of mans

actions ,and they are increasing ,not getting less ,in the
dinosaurs days ,there were no desserts.
collectively this planet is drying up ,
each degree rise in temperature means 10%crop loss
and there is less and less water (because of
deforestation),to irrigate this production ,
and there are less and less farmers to do it..
Arable lands and their farms are lost all over the globe.
Many farmers sons abandon farming and head for the
cities.
Northern China is drying up, what once were millions of
food producing people, are now hungry refugees ,running
for their lives from the all consuming dust storms.
This will have a great effect on world food prices when
they start buying at what ever cost, to feed their people.
Africa and Asia are loosing millions of people to AIDS ,
many of whom were food producers.
The farmers that are left have to feed some 70 million
more people than the year before but with less topsoil.
Over the last half century,
Population growth & rising incomes have tripled world
grain demand from 640 million tons to 1,855 million
In the near future the global farming community will not
be able to feed every body ,food prices will continue to
rise. .

RISING SEAS
The north pole is melting ,and we will know it without ice
in our life times.
this does not affect the sea level because it is ice that is
already in the water.but the melting ice from Green land
and the south pole ,are another matter
Global warming could be slowed down to some extent
,but it will mean global co operation between all countries
,and taking into account human nature and the world
politics ,it is unlikely that this will happen,
At least not until we are all in the middle of planetary
disasters and it becomes a battle for the survival of
humanity every where, instead of just some third world
countries Source(s) here are a 100 ways to help

Greenhouse gasses keep our planet Earth warm and
habitable. If not for the greenhouse effect of our
atmosphere our planet would be a giant frozen iceball.
During the long history of our planet there have been
episodes of global warming and global cooling. While
planetary pertubations and solar activity have played

some role in this, most of the variation has come from

changes in atmospheric gasses. Sometimes evolutionary
processes have contributed to atmospheric gasses
(evolution of phytoplankton, evolution of gymnosperms,
etc.) and sometimes geological events like supervolcanic
eruptions.
Volcanoes affect the atmosphere because they put
carbon dioxide into the air, which traps heat and leads to
global warming. The greatest volcanic activity the Earth
has ever seen, 251 million years ago (mya) covered
Siberia in lava flows several hundred feet deep (google
Siberian traps) and caused the Earth's temperature to
rise 26 degrees F. The result was the sudden extinction of
99% of all life on our planet (Google Permian/Triassic
mass extinction event). The geological sediments
following this era are known as the "dead zone." A less
extreme super volcanic event warmed Earth 14 mya
bringing about tropical forests in Europe. All polar ice
melted and Florida was under 200 feet of water (go look
for marine fossils at Cargill Mines in Florida sometime).
Another super volcanic event ended the Pleistocene Ice
Age.
Human activity, such as the burning of fossil fuels, puts a
lot of carbon dioxide into the air, enough so that we now
mimic a super volcanic event. Unless we want to see the
consequences of a Florida 200 feet under water or the
sudden extinction of 99% of species, perhaps we should
then take global warming more seriously.

Advantages and disadvantages..

Global Warming has been studied pretty closely for more
than a hundred years now. Its pretty clear at this point
that it involves trends that left unchecked will lead to the
end of the human race, if not life on earth. I suppose if
you want to look for advantages you'd have to say some
areas that have been uninhabitable will temporarily be
habitable. There will also be areas that have been
habitable becoming uninhabitable. Then you'll have a
redefined coastline with rising sea levels. There'll be
winners and loser with that too. Some desert land will
become prime real estate. At the same time some prime

real estate will become sea bottom. On that issue we

don't have to guess because its happened before
It is a serious problem, our industry progress leads to
destroying our ozone layer. Does this have any
advantages by your opinion. Name all advantages and
disadvantages you think are present about global
warming of Earth

Conclusion..
The facts are that CO2 is a greenhouse gas, that without
greenhouse gases the earth average temperature would
be 33C colder (a giant snowball) and that we have added
40% more CO2 to the atmosphere. There is not one
person who denies these facts. The question is how much
warmer will the average temperature get by the end of
the century the will we heed the scientist warning and it

will "only" go up by an additional 3 degrees Celsius or will

it be much worse?
The claim "It hasn't warmed since 1998" is denier myth
