Examination Techniques and Advices


Stationery for examination

Recommended to use ball point, either black or blue


No pencil allowed. No grey ball point allowed
Do not scribble to cancel, just draw 1 line to strike through
Underlined by ruler encouraged as you cant have bold but you can capitalise
You can use highlighter (yellow preferred) to show the important points
You have paid for the exam answer book; use them wisely, dont save

Examination Techniques & Advices

The handwriting must be legible; cant read, cant give mark


Must leave 1 line spacing after each paragraph
Must leave 3 lines spacing before starting a new part
Start with a fresh sheet for a new question, for example, question 2 must start
from a new fresh sheet
Show clear headings & sub-headings wherever possible
Do not write very long sentences; longer sentences more confusion
Do not write long paragraph, any paragraph of more than half page is certain
inappropriate
You can give your answer in bullet point, alpha or numeric formats but you
must have a short sentence to lead you to the points
You have to state the question # & part #, for e.g. Q1(b). It is inadequate to
state the part # only, for e.g. (a) [For which Q?]
Question # & part # must be written on the header (centre) of the page, & on
every page of the answer book
If you feel you have more to write for a question but have to move on with
other questions, please leave adequate space/pages before you start with the
next question so that you may return to continue
In Section B, choose 3 out of 4 questions. If you answer all 4 questions; the
last question will not be marked, not matter how well answered is the last one
Detach only Section A (MCQ) and attach to the end of the answer books. Do
not attach the whole exam paper!
You must attempt all questions, even though you cannot answer some of them
very well
If a question has 2 requirements (2 portions), your answer must show 2
portions
Completing all questions and parts is more important than perfecting a few
questions, you cannot score more than the marks allocated

Practise of Examination Techniques and Advices


Students are required to write out the answers to the essay question in accordance to
the recommended examination techniques and advices above. Tutors are to inspect the
written answers during the class and make on-the-spot correction. This is to ensure
that we will NOT be given the final examination answers which are very difficult to
read and mark.
