Most would say that the most horrid of events that have
occurred; known to and caused by men, would have to be the
holocaust where Adolf Hitler murdered over six million
innocents. I am not begging to differ, although I wanted to
introduce another situation perhaps not very broadly known or
accepted but almost, if not exactly, of the same importance.
Has the word ͞genocide͟ ever popped into your vocabulary?
Many would recognize it as another word used in reference to
the holocaust of millions of Jewish/innocent peoples, although I
am aspiring to achieve an understanding of how this one single
deadly word affects not only one side of the world but
everyone around the world instead.
Genocide: The general idea of getting rid of/ killing an entire
race due to discriminations, greed, anger, jealousy, etc.
While being in school, I had come into contact with the rash
reality of human nature, not completely understanding at first
if this was indeed true that millions upon millions of people had
been, and are being killed for mundane reasons such as greed,
power, anger, discriminations etc. Such simple little follies had
begun small but had been allowed the time to create horrid
ideals and beliefs, that to destroy a type of person would
eliminate their own problems, but we learnt all too well that
took Adolf Hitler to the point where he was destroying his
͞own͟ people. Violent beginnings have violent ends and will
virtually destroy your life if you accuse others for your own
problems. For example, I am sure that not very many people
are aware of the recent genocides. Maybe you are, but just as a
recap, they have horridly incredulous reasons for having begun
in the first place.

In the case of the Rwandan Genocide, (1994)it was simply

caused by discrimination, segregation and ultimately jealousy
that caused the Hoodo to murder their kinsmen the Tutsi. At
the time, Belgium had been governing Rwanda, Bosnia, namely
giving the Tutsi the better jobs because they weren͛t ͞as black͟
and their noses weren͛t ͞wide͟. This segregation cumulated to
the extreme when the uproar broke loose and over 800,000
innocent people were killed due to hatred. Another case where
horrid events took place was the Cambodian Genocide. It
wasn͛t until watching the documentary ͞Baraka͟, that I
encountered images and sounds that were meant to relay what
had terribly occurred not that long ago (1975) as well. In this
situation it is known that Vietnamese government known as
͞Khumer Rouge͟ had almost, if not more meticulously than
Hitler, decimated numbers of the Cambodian race namely
because they just wanted to be rid of them. ͞We have no profit
from keeping you alive, but no loss if you die,͟ is one of the
best known quotes that describe the atrocious dislike between
the two races.
Although the list can go on forever, the purpose of stating
these facts was to encourage others to research into the
subject so as to prevent future reruns, for history tends to
repeat itself. I do hope that, with further learning in this field, I
will be able to write a novel in the first person perspective
throughout different cases of abominable genocides such as
the ones I stated, and you will learn from the experience as
much as I have.
Sincerely
Lesley M.
