Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

Release Strategy Stay Current without Major Upgrades

Oracles investment strategy for PeopleSoft is to deliver value-add capabilities on a frequent
cadence without the need for major upgrades. We know that time to market at a minimum cost is
critical for our customers. With PeopleSoft, waiting for the next major release to get the latest
capabilities is no longer a requirement and new functionality can be adopted with minimal
disruption.
To do this, new features and technologies are being delivered multiple times a year onto the
current PeopleSoft release. These capabilities are high value, non-disruptive, and usually free of
charge to customers who are current on maintenance for the applicable module. New changes
can be selectively applied from PeopleSoft Update Images, which are released approximately
every 10 weeks, using the new PeopleSoft Update Manager discussed in the Technology section
of this document. Incremental changes will be rolled up to a major application release about
every three years.
PeopleTools releases (the current release being PeopleTools 8.53 delivered in 2013) will continue
on a 12 to 18 month cycle.
Note: PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, EPM, Portal Solutions Interaction Hub, FSCM Brazil, and
FSCM Argentina currently follow the continuous delivery model exclusively and do not have
plans for major releases as described in this diagram. For more information on how these
product lines have implemented the continuous delivery model, please access the following links

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

Product Strategy
Oracles planned product roadmap for PeopleSoft applications is to deliver value-add features for
all of an organizations constituents along three design principlessimplicity, productivity, and
lowered total cost of ownership (TCO). We work collaboratively with our customer to prioritize
and define new application functionality. On an ongoing basis, planning activities occur with user
groups, focus groups, customer advisory boards, and one on one customer discussions.

Simplicity
Delivering greater simplicity enables casual users to effectively leverage PeopleSoft applications
while remaining focused on their primary job function. Whether on phone, tablet, or desktop,
this greatly reduces the need for training and help desk inquiries when deploying self-service
applications to a broad user community of employees, contractors, suppliers and customers.
PeopleSoft 9.2 is a pivotal release delivering on a new standard for enterprise wide navigation.
This goes well beyond simply reducing clicks (which is certainly a benefit) and provides a holistic
approach for users that matches system behavior with user expectations. To put it another way,
the way the users think about their work is in alignment with how it can be accomplished. New
concepts such as Activity Guides, Train Stops, Related Actions, Embedded Help, and mobile
applicationcoupled with powerful search and visualization capabilities enable both casual
and power users to find the information they need and will provide user process flows that are
intuitive and familiar. While broadening the use of these concepts going forward, we will also
continue innovating around a robust user experience optimized for the desktop, tablet, and
smartphone. The introduction of the Fluid User Interface will enable customers to deploy their
current PeopleTools based applications with ever increasing flexibility for end users without
disrupting existing investments.

Productivity
By delivering rich features and a flexible role-based user experience, we continue to enable line of
business owners to improve productivity and execute mission-critical business transactions
efficiently within PeopleSoft. In PeopleSoft 9.2, a new WorkCenter capability that enables power
users to focus on a set of daily tasks from a single page was delivered. The WorkCenter
combines transactions, analytics, workflow notifications, and reports into a configurable
framework that can be tailored to each role-based user in the enterprise. High-volume users such
as a billing or payables clerk in the Financials department now see greater productivity and spend
less time navigating the system and dealing with exceptions. Real time operational analytics
powered by the new Pivot Grid capability provide robust configurable analysis in the context of a
business process. Going forward, additional WorkCenters, Dashboards, and Operational
Analytics are planned for key areas of the enterprise. As outlined in subsequent product sections
of this document, enhancements targeted for specific industry and regulatory needs will be made
to continue to support mission critical processes for your enterprise.

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

Lower TCO
Oracle will assist the IT department to lower TCO by adding new functionality that enables
organizations to eliminate costly customizations and by enabling lifecycle management of
PeopleSoft applications in a cost effective and non-disruptive manner. With the introduction of
the PeopleSoft Update Manager in PeopleSoft 9.2, customers can now selectively apply changes
(patches or new features) to their environments using the latest delivered PeopleSoft Update
Image. Continued enhancements to the currently available PeopleSoft Test Framework and
Usage Monitorwhich allow for the creation of metadata driven test cases, expanded
integrations within PeopleSoft and between PeopleSoft and other Oracle applications (for
example, Hyperion, Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC), and Primavera), support for
virtualization technologies and the incorporation of Oracles Secure Enterprise Search for global
searchwill all drive down the cost of ownership.
For more information about PeopleSoft Update Manager, see the PeopleSoft Update Manager
Video Feature Overview on YouTube.
Oracle also offers customers choice in their deployment strategies for PeopleSoft. PeopleSoft
may be deployed on premise or in a private cloud model using Oracle Cloud Services or other
cloud hosting services. Oracle partners provide PeopleSoft both as a hosted cloud service
solution and as a full Business Process as a Service model. Customers may transition from one
model to another over time and may choose to have a hybrid model for certain areas of their
solution.
More and more customers are looking at Oracles Engineered Systems to create their own private
cloud on premise. With Exalogics extreme performance, a single machine can easily handle
running a host of applications including Siebel, EBS, home grown applications and PeopleSoft.
Within that PeopleSoft environment, multiple PeopleSoft applications using a number of
instances each for development, testing and production, can utilize a single PeopleTools
installation. By consolidating PeopleTools instances, customers will reduce the installation,
maintenance, and administration effort required. With this effort, significant savings can be
realized.
PeopleSoft provides fully patched Oracle Virtual Machine (OVM) templates for the PeopleSoft
middle tiers, which provide a substantial savings of resources during the installation and
maintenance of PeopleTools. No longer does a customer need to obtain, install, and patch
operating systems for the middle tier components nor do they need to configure the
application and web servers, or the batch server; its all done for you in a consistent, fully tested
template.
The design principles of simplicity, productivity, and lowered TCO remain at the core of Oracles
planned capabilities for PeopleSoft applications. Oracle believes capabilities centered on these
design principles address the needs of our customers now and in the future. Those challenges
include providing application resources to an extended set of more internet savvy users, the need

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

to do more with less, and the constant pressure to reduce operational costs. While this multi-year
statement of direction documents Oracles current investment plans for PeopleSoft, Oracle
intends to regularly validate its strategy with its customers through Customer Advisory Boards,
Strategy Councils, and direct one-to-one customer engagements to ensure that Oracle delivers
the most long-term value as possible to its customers.

Alignment with Overall Oracle Applications Strategy

Aligning PeopleSoft investments with Oracles overall applications strategy consists of two major
components. The first is to expand integrations between PeopleSoft and other Oracle
applications (for example, Hyperion, Governance, Risk, and Compliance, and Primavera) in
order to deliver complete solutions. This includes the planned delivery of integrations between
PeopleSoft and Oracle Cloud Applications to support the co-existence of PeopleSoft
applications and Cloud Applications in selected areas. Adding to these integrations is a focus on
user experience that crosses all Oracle applications. The new Fluid user experience in PeopleSoft
discussed in the next section will enable users to have the same tablet or smartphone experience
when using PeopleSoft and other Oracle applications such as Cloud Talent Management. The
second major component goes beyond the integration of business processes between PeopleSoft
and other Oracle applications to include adoption of Oracles standards based technology and
optimization on the Oracle tech stack including both hardware and software. New PeopleSoft
In-Memory applications are planned for Oracle Engineered Systems on Exadata, Exalogic, and
Exalytics. PeopleSoft is already certified on several value-adding Oracle Fusion Middleware
technology components including WebLogic, Oracle Enterprise Manager, and Oracle Identity
Management. These are the same technology components underpinning Oracle Fusion
Applications. The reporting strategy for both PeopleSoft and Fusion Applications includes
Oracle BI Publisher. Additionally, both product suites use Oracle Business Intelligence for
mapping transactional information to a business warehouse for analytics as well as the Oracle
Fusion Governance Risk and Compliance (GRC) suite of products.
By optimizing on Oracle database, PeopleSoft customers can gain greater value from Oracle
database features and solutions such as Exadata, Real Application Clusters, and Active Data
Guard. While engaging in efforts to optimize PeopleSoft applications on the Oracle database,
Oracle plans to retain the ability to run and perform well on non-Oracle technology platforms.
Going forward, investments in areas like this will continue to offer a predictable and costeffective way for users to maximize their investments with Oracle. PeopleSoft customers will
find that IT and business analyst skills used today on PeopleSoft can also be used in the future
and in conjunction with Fusion Applications.

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

PeopleSoft Technology Roadmap

Oracle continues to drive innovation into the core of the PeopleSoft suite with targeted 12 to 18
month releases of PeopleTools and corresponding adoption and integration of Oracles leading
technology infrastructure. New PeopleTools capabilities and enhancements improve the way
applications users work while reducing operational costs through standards-based platform
adoption and market leading lifecycle management tools.

Reshaping the Way Users Use PeopleSoft Applications

Ongoing adoption and use of the commercial internet has changed users perception of
enterprise application user interfaces. The way users search for and interact with data, view
information, and take action has changed in recent years. PeopleTools gives PeopleSoft
applications the technology to stay in sync with the needs and expectations of our users. The
PeopleSoft technology platform enables users to access critical data and execute key business
processes quicker and more intuitively than ever.

PeopleSoft Fluid User Interface Employee Self Service Homepage

The PeopleSoft Fluid User Interface introduces a number of important new features to the
application user experience:

Fluid Homepages

Tiles

Notification Framework

PeopleSoft Navigation Bar

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

Fluid Homepages

Fluid Homepages are the fluid version of an application home page. Similar to the current portal
technology, the fluid homepage is where a user arrives after logging into the system. The fluid
homepage brings together information that will assist a user in understanding whats happening
and what needs their attention, while providing an easy way for the user to navigate to key parts
of the PeopleSoft system. A system can contain multiple fluid homepages for different uses.
Customers can easily create new homepages and publish them to users, groups of users, or
specific roles. End users can create their own personal homepages, where they might associate
information of relevance or importance to themselves.
Tiles

Fluid homepages use a new navigational structure: the tile. Tiles, also called grouplets, provide a
discrete view to a segment of the PeopleSoft application. It is a structure on the homepage that
will help the user navigate to a fluid page (or even a classic page), but the tile also can provide
valuable information in its own right. Designed to be more than a button on a homepage, the tile
leverages the ability to display notifications through the new PeopleSoft Notification Framework
as well as dynamic visual content from PeopleSoft Pivot Grids or other information sources. A
tile on a fluid homepage can be compared to a pagelet on a classic homepage.
Notification Framework

The Notification Framework is a mechanism employed by PeopleTools that updates a widget in

the home page header. As data is updated within applications, the notification widget reflects a
sum of all notifications from all applications represented in the home page. It shows users the
number of items that need their attention and enables them to view and act on those items using
the Notification Window. For example, if an application provides the number of outstanding
invoices yet to be approved by the user, the Notification Framework might be used to update the
count dynamically as new invoices are generated.
PeopleSoft Navigation Bar

The new PeopleSoft Navigation Bar (also referred to as NavBar) offers faster and more intuitive
navigation across the PeopleSoft application. The Navigation Bar is a new fluid structure that is
always available as a dynamic window that slides out from the side of the page. On fluid-enabled
systems, the PeopleSoft Navigation Bar will be available even on PeopleSoft classic pages,
creating a seamless experience for users as they navigate the system.
The PeopleSoft Navigation Bar enables users to access information about other areas of the
application directly and, upon selection, to navigate to those pages. It includes the entire
PeopleSoft menu, user favorites, and recently used links, but also navigation tiles that will bring
users to the parts of the application that are most important to them. Users can personalize the
PeopleSoft Navigation Bar easily by arranging the icons or even by pinning new application
pages to the bar as they work.

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

PeopleSoft Navigation Bar

Self service pages will be a major focus for Fluid User Interface. Fluid and Classic PeopleSoft
pages will coexist long term even as more pages over time are moved to the Fluid User Interface.
A Fluid tile can be used to navigate directly to a Classic page. A new Fluid Header Toolbar will
be provided for Classic pages to provide a common navigation reference for users.
For current release details, please read the latest PeopleTools Release Value Proposition (My
Oracle Support [customer login required] Document 1664634.1.
Our latest releases continue Oracles commitment to protecting and extending the value of the
PeopleSoft applications, provide cutting edge enhancements that improve end user productivity
and help reduce the total cost of ownership.

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

The future highlights of the powerful user interface include:

PeopleSoft Web-based Experience

PeopleSoft applications continue to invest and improve the way customers can aggregate
PeopleSoft and external data in a common user interface. Customers can deploy PeopleSoft as
part of a comprehensive website for their users, incorporating more content from their
applications into a robust web system of rich homepages, dashboards and role-based
WorkCenters. Rather than providing simply an application to log into, customers can deliver to
their employees and users an experience that looks and feels more like a consumer website.
Using PeopleSofts User Experience platform, customers can create a website for their
employees that provides access to important information and critical transactions without
requiring the user to use a complex menu for navigation.
Search Based Navigation

PeopleSoft data is at the heart of the new user experience. With the consumer internet, users
have become accustomed to robust search engines, content filtering, and being able to follow
secure links quickly to take action; PeopleSoft applications support this type of experience.
Building on the power of Oracle Secure Enterprise Search (SES), users search with free-form
text, and the result pulls information from across application pillars and content repositories.
PeopleTools related action framework lets users take actions directly from the search results or
take advantage simple navigation options based on their selected data.
Context-Enabled Smart Navigation

Wherever a user navigates and whatever a user selects, actions related to their selected data will
be available. Actions will be across pillars; users can take action from within the current pillar or
take an action that navigates across pillars for a multiple instance configuration. This offers a
highly flexible navigation experience, which is required to improve the efficiency and
effectiveness of each person who interacts with your PeopleSoft solution.
Business Process Centric Collaboration

With the advent of embedded Enterprise 2.0 technologies such as Workspaces, Feeds, Wikis,
Chat, Blogs, and Tagging, the PeopleSoft application suite includes an extended social computing
platform that will increase business intelligence availability and decrease task execution time. To
maximize the information available to users for making informed decisions, PeopleTools will
continue to extend the configurable role-based framework enabling users to access related
information, external transactions, analytics, discussion forums, wiki content, documents,
workflow, and related discussions from any transaction page using Related Content or from a
WorkCenter or Dashboard Productivity Based WorkCenters. Every organization has users who
rely heavily on the information in their PeopleSoft applications. For these users, productivity is
measured by the need to constantly navigate from one place to another and often back.
WorkCenters break the barriers of navigation by creating a custom, productive user interface that

10

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

is tailored to a user, role, or both. All WorkCenter contentitems, worklists, actions, reports,
and componentsare available in a layout that optimizes the user experience and minimizes
mouse clicks. Now an organization can quickly make any user a power user. The framework is
based on processes, procedures, or other business requirements that are role-specific.
Rich Data Visualization and Interaction

Todays applications should present data to the user in the most appropriate format possible.
This makes the information easy to understand, navigate and learn for even the most novice user.
PeopleTools Rich Data Visualization capability allows data to be displayed and interacted with in
a hierarchical format. HCM applications used this technology to build the Employee Org Chart.

The new PeopleSoft framework will enable users to initiate actions from a number of different contexts
such as a graphical organizational view, a search result, or a transactional page.
PeopleSoft Pivot Grid

The new Pivot Grid allows PeopleSoft to deliver real time active analytics from within
PeopleSoft applications. Associating dynamically rendered charts with powerful drag-and-drop
interactive grids, pivot grids virtually eliminate the need to export data to a desktop spreadsheet.
Keeping the data in the system ensures that PeopleSoft security continues to be enforced and
that users are working with the most current information. Improved capabilities for pivoting and
interaction ensure that users have the insight they need to take informed action. The Pivot Grid
will be a central structure on PeopleSoft homepages, WorkCenters and dashboards.
Dashboards and Embedded Analytics

Information is key to making strategic business decisions and PeopleTools technology gives users
the ability to access, view, analyze, drill down, and take action on the data that is most important,
regardless of the source or location.

Embedded Analytics will let users create content from many different sources, not just your
transactional system, and get the data they need. This information will then be displayed in a
user friendly grid, chart, or graph and provide the ability to drill down into the details.

11

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

With contextual navigation, users will be able to personalize their experience by adding business
transactions or Embedded Analytics to their dashboards.
Mobile Support

The workforce has moved to mobile and so too have PeopleSoft applications. PeopleTools will
add advanced HTML5 without application disruption. The new HTML5 will let mobile touch
screen applications for Smartphones and tablets be built, deployed and managed with the same
PeopleTools components that desktop applications are built with now.
The primary support for mobile devices is the Fluid User Interface. Fluid builds on the flexibility
of the existing PeopleSoft Internet Architecture and delivers responsive device independent user
interfaces that work across various device types. One single component definition will render on
a smartphone, mini-tablet, tablet and even a desktop browser.
PeopleSoft wont stop there. A new mobile ready platform called Mobile Application Platform
(MAP) will enable responsive user interfaces to be built on RESTful services that work through
Integration Broker technology. User Interfaces built with MAP can be used to build lightweight
mobile applications or embed PeopleSoft content into other mobile applications.
Platform and Device

PeopleTools will continue to support customers platform choices. Support for the most
popular databases, middleware, browsers, and devices will continue to evolve as new technology
becomes available. Current browser and tablet support is planned for Internet Explorer, Firefox,
Chrome, iPad, and Android-based tablets. Popular mobile devices will be supported for emailbased approvals.

Reducing Operational Costs through Standards-Based Platform Adoption and

Market-Leading Lifecycle Management Tools
In addition to expanding the existing features and functionality of PeopleTools, Oracle is also
helping to reduce operational costs by streamlining the integration of traditional Oracle products
with the PeopleSoft applications. These streamlined integration will reduce the complexity and
time need to implement and manage these other Oracle products.

12

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

Virtualization and Dynamic Provisioning

PeopleTools will continue to provide production-ready templates that allow IT staff to get a
PeopleSoft system online quickly or to dynamically add or remove PeopleSoft components from
a PeopleSoft application. This capability will allow for elastic increases and decreases, depending
on the load. The correct versions of all required software are pre-loaded and ready to use. The
application, batch, and web servers are pre-configured, with a fully tested VM template. The need
for testing, one of the largest costs of maintaining an application is dramatically reduced. By
using the virtualized templates provided by Oracle, PeopleSoft customers significantly reduce the
steps required in maintaining their applications environment, saving time and providing
measurable cost savings for the company.
Private Cloud with Engineered Systems

Exadata and Exalogic provide amazing performance for PeopleSoft applications and offer many
other unique benefits as well. PeopleSoft will continue to exploit these systems with new in
memory, on line product offerings which have not been possible before. Reducing maintenance
costs will remain a focus area. The use of middle tier templates for Exalogic greatly reduces the
time and effort of both installation and maintenance of PeopleTools and continued investment
will be made to enable additional cost savings. PeopleSoft will continue to pursue new features
and technology that further enhances consolidation of PeopleTools instances across applications
as well as application instances (development, test, and production). With significantly fewer
environments to maintain, resources are freed up for other key business projects. PeopleTools is
pursuing additional changes that further streamline PeopleSoft applications running on
Engineered Systems.
Multi-pillar Deployment

Solving the complexities of managing multiple pillars is a constant challenge. PeopleTools will
continue to invest in supporting multi-pillar deployments that will support single signon and the
power of a single navigational model.
Standards-based Integration Platform

Evolving institutional needs are placing increasing pressure on IT to deliver greater flexibility and
speed. PeopleSoft Integration Broker is critical for IT initiatives geared towards enterprise
application integration (EAI), composite application development, and legacy modernization.
High volume, improved performance, increased support for standards, and improved integration
options such as RESTful web services will continue to make Integration Broker a superior
integration platform for PeopleSoft applications.

The PeopleSoft Integration Network makes it easier to set up, develop, and administer,
integrations across PeopleSoft applications. Its a big step moving forward geared to
simplifying the task of administering all integrations with PeopleSoft systems.

13

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

With new releases of the PeopleSoft application suite, additional certifications will be included
for Oracles industry leading Fusion Middleware platform components, thus providing a full
range of solutions around business process management, services orchestration, and
integration.

Maximum Availability Infrastructure and Choice

Your institution needs to be online 24/7, 365 days a year. If critical applications, servers, or data
become compromised or unavailable, your ability to serve your constituents is jeopardized.
Oracles PeopleSoft Application Suite will increasingly incorporate and support innovative and
evolving database and technology features such as Oracle Real Application Clusters, Active Data
Guard, Transparent Data Encryption, and Oracles Engineered Systems offerings.
Extending User Identity Across the Enterprise

To manage the entire user identity life cycle across all enterprise resources, both within and
beyond the firewall, PeopleSoft applications will continue to extend direct ties into Oracles
Identity Management suite of products. This will allow for a centralized and automated single
signon (SSO), provisioning, audit and analytics solution for managing who has access to what
information across your entire IT infrastructure.
Change Management

Oracle recognizes that one of the greatest costs associated with managing enterprise applications
is determining how a change will affect a PeopleSoft system and its users. When software
changes (that is, software maintenance, upgrades, and customizations) are done to any
application, system testing needs to be completed to ensure that the application continues to
support the business processes.

The PeopleSoft Test Framework provides insight into how a change will affect a PeopleSoft
system, and it allows IT to better predict, analyze, and manage system changes.

Data Migration Workbench simplifies the migration of application data between PeopleSoft
systems. This will allow IT staff as well as functional administrators and business analyst to
setup and configure application data in a test instance and migrate to production with a
standard approval and workflow process. It comes with built in security and a set of
administration tools that allow flexibility in choosing the structure and content of data and a
very useful compare utility that instantly shows differences between PeopleSoft instances.

PeopleSoft Update Manager

The patching process for PeopleSoft applications has changed. The old maintenance model was
based on the assumption that a customer stays current on maintenance by applying all fixes on a
current code line. Customer feedback tells us that most customers are not able to stay current
with the scope of impact for prerequisites of multiple bundles or a Maintenance Pack is too large
to consider when the need is a single critical fix.

14

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

PeopleSoft Update Manager changes the maintenance process by giving more control to the
customer. With PeopleSoft Update Manager customers will choose the individual fixes from
bundles and patches that they want to apply and will create a custom change package with only
those fixes and prerequisites. PeopleSoft derives a huge advantage in our PeopleTools metadata
that allows us to track dependencies and therefore pre/post requisites based on introspection of
our metadata. By utilizing this capability, we will calculate dependencies and a much more
granular level and will significantly reduce the scope of impact to customer testing for taking a
desired fix.
PeopleSoft Update Manager provides a much easier delivery mechanism for patching by
eliminating the current requirement of maintaining a patched "Demo" environment. Instead
Oracle delivers a complete virtual instance pre-configured and fully patched allowing the
customer to easily obtain a patching source with capabilities supporting the selection of fixes,
Legislative or Regulatory changes, and all of the search capabilities of our current Update
Gateway and more. Using this new source, the customer can select the desired change and we
will generate a change package based on the selection with only defined granular requisites
factoring into consideration what each customer has already applied in their environment.
If a customer wants to bring their code to the latest level; PeopleSoft Update Manager provides a
way of calculating what today would be the equivalent of a cumulative maintenance pack but
with additional capability of taking into consideration what you have already applied with the
intent to minimize the scope of change and the resulting test requirements.
PeopleSoft Update Manager provides the customer with the minimum change required to apply a
desired change with functional integrity in the applications. To achieve the maximum TCO
benefit PeopleSoft Test Framework can then identify the functionality that you use that is
impacted by the change and can identify whether you have automation and which automated test
exercise impacted areas.

PeopleTools Innovation Without Disruption

Looking past the current releases into the future of PeopleTools shows continued innovation.
From its initial release, PeopleTools has proven again and again its ability to adopt new
technology, platforms, and devices and bring the PeopleSoft applications forward. No other
Enterprise Toolset has proven its ability to evolve and change with rapidly changing technology
the way PeopleTools has.
Some of the changes under consideration for future releases include:

Configurable page changes which will enable end users to set up their pages in a way that is
most relevant to them, without IT involvement or upgrade impact.

As the mobile platform continues to evolve, PeopleTools will continue to certify and provide
the necessary technology to leverage the platforms the way the applications require.
PeopleTools will evolve to support leading user interface technology such as HTML5 and

15

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

CSS3 to enable applications to use advanced feature and optimize design across mobile and
desktop devices. PeopleSoft will continue to deliver applications that enable mobile users to
access company resources while on the move.

Analytics will be leveraged more and more, and we will see advanced seamless interfaces to
OBIA, Essbase, and PeopleSoft with consistent data definitions across all systems. This will
automate the process of generating analytic definitions using PeopleSoft Metadata and realtime information for business process activities.

Continued integration of social networks and unstructured data into business processes. We
will extend tags to make it possible for end-users to add data elements to existing pages and

organizations of every size, region, and industry.
PeopleSoft HCM is a global, webbased, singlesystem human capital management solution that
covers all aspects of your HCM needs from core human resources (HR) transactional
functionality through service automation and delivery to integrated enterprise talent management
solutions.
The needs and requirements to effectively manage people in an organization have definitely
changed and evolved. Organizations as well as their HCM users are requiring more flexibility,
more agility and more simplicity. PeopleSoft 9.2 fundamentally changes how users interact with
PeopleSoft applications by incorporating the consumer internet experience that users are now
accustomed to. PeopleSoft HCM has always been recognized as a best in class HCM system and
it has evolved and transformed itself to be able to keep its leadership position. On top of that,
new capabilities included by PeopleTools in conjunction with Oracles private cloud deployments
make PeopleSoft HCM a very attractive solution for a Private Cloud implementation.
Oracle delivered many new capabilities with the PeopleSoft 9.2 release GA in March of 2013 and many more are planned for the years ahead. The underlying principles of Simplicity,
Productivity and Lower Total Cost of Ownership are at the heart of the new functionality and
capabilities being added in PeopleSoft products. With the new delivery model, organizations
dont need to wait until a major new release to get new functionality. New functionality is being
delivered more periodically through PeopleSoft Update Images. PeopleSoft Customers can now
selectively pick and choose what features, fixes or enhancements they want to deploy in their
environments.

Self Service and Mobile Enabled Applications

PeopleSoft HCM 9.2 presents a new Self-service experience, through the adoption of Guided
Navigation processes, Dashboards and WorkCenters, and global and component search. Also in
September 2012, PeopleSoft HCM delivered its first Mobile Application, Mobile Company
Directory. Mobile Company Directory enables users to search for people, obtain contact details,
reporting structure, and personal information on your smartphone or tablet. This solution also
enables employees and managers to email people in the organization, make phone calls as well as
send text messages from the Company Directory itself. PeopleTools will support industry
standard user interface technology to enable applications to use advanced features and optimize
design across mobile and desktop devices.
Several applications are planned to be delivered using this technology so they can be made
available on different devices.

activities for managers by providing an HR page that alerts managers to items needing their
attention and provides a consolidated view of critical information about the employees in their
organization. Manager Self Service transactions can be easily access from this home page so
Managers can quickly take action from it. The Home Page will work on phone, tablet and/or
desktop making this simple and straight forward to the user. Employee Home Page: this home
page will provide quick access to employees most frequently used business processes from
either a desktop or a mobile device. Employee Self Service transactions can be access from this
home page so Employees can easily and intuitively take action, such as view and edit their
personal information, profile data, view their paycheck (or payslip), and more.

Approvals - This application will allow Managers to quickly and easily approve, decline or push
back approval requests, see requests by type, status, and other criteria, review where requests
are in the workflow process and review historical requests, both from a smartphone, tablet or
desktop device.

Guided Self Service Guided Self Service (GSS) will enable organizations to define and
compound HR transactions while simplifying and enabling user specific processing.
Specifically designed for the infrequent user, this configurable approach to process definition
ensures that users have the appropriate details and information to easily complete different HR
transactions. Matrix organization Self Service - PeopleSoft HCM 9.1 FP2 introduced Matrix
relationship administration which enables organizations to view and work in a dynamic
environment by providing a configurable, secure solution to define the most complex
relationships and hierarchies. This allows greater flexibility where project oriented and dotted
line relationships exist to provide access to not only view various types of relationships but
also perform actions on individuals based on the relationships defined. Matrix Relationship
Administration will expand to support self service for relationship definitions and
management. This includes the ability to request a relationship as well as provide security
configuration to support who and what any user can request access to. Self Service for Matrix
will reduce the administrative effort to support management of relationships across the
organization.

Side by Side compare This will provide more advanced compare functionality to allow users
to easily compare employees and all their related HR information.

PeopleSoft Time and Labor also plans to deliver mobile enabled application for time entry,

Global and Component Search

Global and component searches using Oracles Secure Enterprise Search technology were made
available in PeopleSoft 9.2 to help users navigate PeopleSoft HCM more intuitively and to
minimize or even eliminate the need to click through functional menus to find and update
information. Component Search capabilities, also powered by Oracle SES, provide administrative
or super users with a faster, more efficient method to search for information within the Job
and Benefits components. Users now have the option of searching these components with the
pre-existing PeopleTools-based search page or using the new Keyword Search tab. Several HCM
applications adopted both the Global as well as the component search. For example ELM
learning search now utilizes Oracle Secure Enterprise Search providing faceted search results for
simple browsing and narrowing of search results and a one-step launch and enroll process for
web-based learning content.
Further adoption of search-driven navigation is planned across different HCM products. For
example, planned Component Search capabilities in Global Payroll will enable payroll users to
perform free-text searches as well as improved criteria based searches on payroll data entries
(positive inputs), and to take action directly from the returned results, increasing payroll
departments ability to detect and fix payroll errors before last payroll run.

PeopleSoft HCM Operational Analytics

These analytics are delivered with PeopleTools Pivot Grids technology which enables dynamic
analysis, filtering, drill down capabilities, flexible chart options, and the possibility of taking
action in context. PeopleSoft HCM/ELM 9.2 included several analytics on the areas of
Compensation, Recruiting, Global Payroll and Absence Management, Time and Labor and ELM.
PeopleSoft HCM is planning on delivering the following additional analytics:

Payable Time by Status, Payable Time Trend, Time Categories Comparison, and Labor Costs
are planned to be delivered in PeopleSoft Time and Labor, providing additional analytics that
managers and administrators can easily access from the Time and Labor WorkCenter. These
analytics will focus on payable time and provide information such as comparing overtime
hours and costs across multiple periods, reviewing overtime versus regular, productive versus
non-productive, and more.

Performance operational analytics for managers to monitor their teams performance process,
a configurable close-out process and automated support for changes to performance
documents based on changes in an employees job.

Expansion of already delivered 9.2 Compensation analytics which provide real time insights
into the progress of an ongoing compensation cycle to provide administrators with additional
information into proposed pay raise inequities not based on merit or performance.

19

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

Planned Absence Analytics will allow manager and administrator to analyze absence trends,
patterns, visualize key absence ratios and take actions that will help the company reduce cost
and liability, optimizing resources and enforcing Companies Absence Policy.

Plans to provide Operational Reporting Analytics for payroll and absence results. Users will be
able to analyze important metrics and take actions on results, such as correct exceptions,
identify high and low earners, identify negative payments, headcount variance, overpaid
employees, etc.

Allow configuration to the Time to Fill metric which will allow users to provide their definition
of time to fill a position. This analysis will provide insight into the offer and acceptance
process for the organizations.

Role Based Dashboards and Workcenters

Dashboards and WorkCenters have been widely adopted in PeopleSoft HCM/ELM 9.2. More
Dashboards and WorkCenters are planned.

Dashboards provide at-a-glance view of all relevant information relevant to a role. PeopleSoft
HCM/ELM 9.2 included several new dashboard pages.

The ELM role-based Learning homepage (dashboard) provides information and direct links
to learning tasks, announcements, current learning, pending approvals, operational analytics
and the most commonly used business processes.

The 9.2 Recruiting Home Page gives recruiters, recruiting managers and hiring managers a
central point for launching and performing recruiting activities. This page brings together
links to commonly performed activities, search launches, alerts, applicant list collections,
recruiting metrics, and lists of both job openings and applicants. More analytics are planned
for this Recruiting Home Page.

A new Time and Labor operational dashboardwill provide decision support so line
managers can analyze historical and real-time labor spend. This analysis will enable insight
into overtime, unplanned absences, and other critical labor data needed for key business
decisions.

WorkCenters are more geared towards high-frequency users (like a time administrator) to
consolidate user tasks, exceptions, alerts, links and reports into a single, secure role-based
command center that can be personalized.
PeopleSoft HCM 9.2 includes a Time and Labor Workcenter which provides a single point of
entry for administrators to relevant work areas and proactively monitors critical status and
transactions. The 9.2 release also included a new Performance WorkCenter with mid-period
review support for a simple, integrated view of performance and development documents with
tasks clearly identified and followed and optional Career Planning information, such as impact
of loss are included.

20

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

More workcenters are planned for PeopleSoft HCM, such as Payroll for NA Workcenter,
Global Payroll and Absence Workcenter and Compensation Workcenter. The WorkCenter
pages will provide a more streamlined user interface that reduces the need for navigation and
increases productivity by providing a central place from which the day-to-day work can be
accomplished.
The Payroll WorkCenters will be designed with the Payroll Administrator role in mind. The
Global Payroll and Absence WorkCenters in particular will expand the capabilities and
functionality already delivered with the 9.2 Global Payroll Monitor. The Global Payroll
monitor enables payroll administrators to monitor the payroll process easily, giving them a
visual representation of numbers of employees and amounts that have been processed in a
single place. The Payroll WorkCenters will enable payroll administrators to manage the end-toend payroll business process in a single place, providing them with easy access to key
information, links and reports and increasing payroll departments productivity.
The planned Compensation WorkCenter will serve as a one-stop shop for administrators to
manage compensation cycles, plans, salary and budget planning, variable compensation, Total
Rewards, and collaborate with other administrators.

Social Capabilities
Lowering the cost of collaboration for HCM related process in the areas of learning, recruiting,
time and labor, compensation, succession planning and other key HR areas is a key goal. Oracle
intends to invest in embedding contemporary social collaboration functionality, document
editing and versioning, and community management into the PeopleSoft HCM applications. By
leveraging the capabilities of Oracle Social Network, Oracle intends to integrate secure,
enterprise-grade collaboration into the PeopleSoft applications so that customers can expend
minimal effort to offer rich collaboration functionality.

PeopleSoft In-Memory Labor Rules and Monitoring

PeopleSoft In-Memory Labor Rules and Monitoring is engineered to take complete advantage of
the Exadata and Exalogic hardware platforms for optimized performance and scalability. The
first release of this product is now available with additional enhancements planned. In-Memory
processing greatly enhances response time for users and reduces overall processing time for highvolume batch jobs. Additionally the solution will leverage Oracle Policy Automation to provide
capabilities to standardize and enforce consistent policy-based decisions throughout the
organization with simple to understand rules definitions.

PeopleSoft Talent Management Flexibility

Ability to use the latest release of PeopleSoft Talent Management while remaining on prior
releases of core HR offers customers the ability to enjoy robust Talent Management functionality

21

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

while continuing to use your current PeopleSoft HCM installation. We will continue this strategy
with each new release of Talent Management. That for example means that Customers could stay
on 9.1 HR Core will using Performance Management and Recruiting on 9.2.

PeopleSoft HCM/ELM Proposed Enhancements

In addition to the new Self Service functionality and mobile applications described previously on
this document, PeopleSoft HCM/ELM plans to extend product functionality in multiple product
areas.

The Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) prescribes auditing policies and procedures for
personnel engaged in the performance of services paid by funds received by government
contracts. We intend to evolve the PeopleSoft Time and Labor application so that
organizations can efficiently adopt the new time keeping objectives to assure that labor hours
are accurately recorded and that any corrections to timekeeping records are documented.
These requirements have cross industries value and although the other industries will not
restrict time capturing to the extent of customers needing to adhere to DCAA guidelines, the
requirements will enable customers to better control, and streamline time reporting and time
management.

PeopleSoft plans to expand the employee self service functionality to allow the employee to
view and update the State W-4 forms online. Todays economy challenges companies to do
more with fewer resources. This leaves the payroll department always looking for ways to
reduce costs. Employee self service has become the means by which the payroll department
can successfully do more with less. This new functionality will eliminated the manual effort,
reduce the administrative cost, and provide the employee with more timely tax withholding
changes.

Continued enhancements to ePerformance with an extended 360 degree performance view,

additional mid-period review enhancements (expanding the mid-period review functionality
already delivered on 9.2), and auto-save capabilities for users to view integrated performance
feedback and provide ratings at mid period checkpoints.

Leverage a new integration with Microsoft Outlook to push scheduled learning from ELM into
enrolled learners and instructors calendars.

ELM plans to streamline enrollment processes by providing additional multiple enrollment

capabilities, automatic enrollment based on changes made within HR or registration in a
program, and uploading enrollments from a file.

Roster enhancements, including a mobile roster feature, are planned for ELM to enable
instructors to easily update learners attendance and grades.

Recruiting operational business processes will continue to be supported with enhancements to

the candidate routing functionality. Comments and attachments will help to support the

22

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

communication between the recruiters and the hiring team. Additional support for printing,
withdrawal and allowing for attachments at the application level bring needed changes to the
application process. The Search process will also see changes with faceted search in Candidate
Gateway, bringing proximity and geographic search for both candidates and recruiters.

Leveraging PeopleTools Activity Guides will bring onboarding support by automating the
entry of newly hired employees into the organization. This is a critical step in ensuring rapid
time to contribution as well as building initial bond with the new employee. This solution will
provide a systematic means to design and configure job specific onboarding programs
(information, tasks and scheduling) necessary to efficiently and effectively get new employees
established and ready to become productive.

Usability enhancements to the manager self service compensation allocation page to facilitate
drill through to indirects, as well as accurate and efficient data entry.

Provide manager self service capabilities for managing variable compensation allocation.

Usability enhancements to the manager self service Succession 360 page to enable easier
viewing and printing access to at-a-glance information, with drilldown capabilities for career
succession planning purposes.

Provide managers self service capabilities to create talent pools based on their own employees
and restricted access to other employees outside their organization.

Extend PeopleSofts Organization Charting capabilities to allow managers and administrators

to visualize what if succession modeling before implementing any succession plans.

Allow configurable ratings boxes for the entire employee population whether the employee is
part of a succession plan or not.

HTML email approvals for most common AWE HCM transactions such as Absence Request,
Extended Absence Request, Job Opening, Job Offer, Promote Employee, Transfer Employee
and others.

Leveraging Approvals, Delegations, and Alerts frameworks for Absence Administrators

functions.

Planned enhanced integration between PeopleSoft and Microsofts Outlook Calendar will
allow Self Service users to decide whether to manage and monitor their absence in either
PeopleSoft or in Outlook, or both.

Pension plans to deliver an enhanced integration between PeopleSoft Pension and CRM 360
View, allowing to link and or integrate the two systems to ease the search and follow-up for
Pension related cases.

Usability enhancements to the Profile Manager self service pages to enable easier and more
intuitive access to review and update profile data.

PeopleSoft Financials Management

Oracles PeopleSoft Financial Management (FMS) solutions are designed to help our customers
address todays challenges and to support their business opportunities. Todays opportunities
focus on supporting profitable growth and business expansion. Todays workforce, suppliers, and
customers are global. They cross regions and business lines. This creates challenges that revolve
around reducing costs at every level and supporting ever increasing compliance requirements,
both internal and external, in efficient and effective ways.
To reduce costs, a finance organization can streamline financial processes by supporting best
practices, consolidating systems, standardizing charts of accounts, and so on. Supporting
compliance and control requirements involves automating tasks, maintaining organizational
policies, and having the tools to audit financial activity against those policies. Supporting
profitable growth involves providing the right information to the right people at the right time.
Enterprises need real time, actionable data in the context of specific financial tasks to better
manage and execute their business decisions. PeopleSoft Financial Management products help
our customers improve efficiencies, comply with regulations, and add value to their enterprise.
Keeping todays challenges and opportunities in mind, PeopleSoft Financial Management
Solutions roadmap plans to aid the finance and accounting insight, productivity and control into
these core operational and financial areas.
To achieve these goals, PeopleSoft focuses on simple, easy to use business processes that save
time and money for the users with Simplicity, Productivity and Lower Cost of Operations.
Delivering greater simplicity enables casual users to leverage PeopleSoft applications effectively
while remaining focused on their primary job function. This ability greatly reduces the need for
training and help-desk inquiries when deploying financial applications to a broad user
community.
On-Boarding new suppliers and managing supplier changes is a major undertaking for many
organizations. Often, the tasks involved to collect the data are manual which leads to erroneous
entries into the ERP. PeopleSoft FSCM 9.2 started the effort to automate and simplify this
critical task through a step by step walk through of the business task, which can be accomplished
by the internal buyers or have the supplier take on the effort of on-boarding themselves. The
roadmap will further expand this capability to support on-going changes by either the supplier or
buying organizations resulting in additional cost savings and increased controls. Please refer to
the Supplier Relationship Management section for more information.
Another aspect of simplification is to provide casual users with a simple but quick approach to
completing a financial task. PeopleSoft Financials will focus on providing a simple step by step
process for non-Financial users the ability to request a payment for indirect spend; this will
further reduce erroneous entries and complex reconciliation activities for the financial
operations.

25

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

Suppliers play a central role in the procure-to-pay process. A supplier, or potential supplier, is
involved in every transaction required to request and pay for goods and services. PeopleSoft
FSCM 9.2 and beyond will provide a broad look at the whole supplier lifecycle management
process in order to provide high value for the buying and supplier organizations. The focus will
bring increased visibility through a 360 degree view of the supplier for the supplier and the
buying organization. We will improve the user interface of PeopleSoft eSettlements to enable
suppliers to have visibility into the critical financial data they need to analyze disputes and
discounts with the buyers. Financials will also provide for a mobile solution focused on the
supplier and the buyer. This initiative will improve the critical procure-to-pay process in the areas
of reduced costs and improved balance sheet position.
Key business tasks are becoming increasingly mobile as adoption of smartphone and tablet
devices continue to rise. PeopleSoft FSCM 9.2 introduced three new mobile solutions in the
areas of Expenses, eProcurement and Approvals. PeopleSoft will continue its 9.2 mobile push by
providing support for line level approval within the PeopleSoft Mobile Approvals application. To
further accommodate the mobile workforce Oracle will provide PeopleSoft Financial
Information on the go to internal operational users, C-Level Execs and other consumers of
financial information including the sales and marketing organizations. Similarly, a mobile
application for Cash Managers is being planned, to enable this select group of users to view the
daily cash position, manage bank account positions, and approve payments and overview the
portfolio position.
In order to gain higher simplicity and productivity, Release 9.2 shifted the user interface
paradigm to bring the consumer internet to the PeopleSoft applications suite. To further this
focus, PeopleSoft Financials plans to leverage the newest PeopleTools Next Generation User
Interface to provide new home page dashboard content to middle level managers and the
executive suite. Financials will also focus on the revenue cycle by providing for self-service
invoicing pages for billing clerks; this will provide a huge value- add and reduce the time to get
the bills out resulting in lower DSO and improved cash flow.
Tagging is part of everyones consumer internet life. PeopleTools introduced the capability to tag
a transaction or control data for search and retrieval or connecting one activity to another.
PeopleSoft Financials plans to leverage the Tagging capability to provide more flexibility to users
of Financials to pull together appropriate reporting for auditors and regulators and Financial data
as needed.
Finance department users should spend less time completing daily tasks and more doing business
analysis that helps in making critical business decisions. Improving productivity and end user
efficiency was a big focus for PeopleSoft Financials 9.2, and will remain a key area where future
investments are delivered.
Running efficient organizations requires highly productive business processes. To improve
productivity, Oracle plans to take advantage of the new ExaData machines to build out Financial
Applications that will hugely benefit from its exceptional processing power. Crucial, complex

26

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

processes like Allocations and Forecasting will be some of the first applications to be developed
as In-Memory applications.
The CFO should no longer have to depend on educated guesses when it comes to forecasting
expected events in the near term. Oracle plans to offer the PeopleSoft In-Memory Real-Time
Bottom Line, a robust solution set that takes large volumes of production data and business
configuration and then simulates the effect of changes without touching the actual financial
position. Based on simulation analysis and comparisons, changes that make sense for the
financial period can be deployed to the production environment. Using real-time operational
data, the solution allows Finance to execute simulations of business, market and regulatory
changes that are relevant business factors during the financial period. The Real-Time Bottom
Line solution is designed to allow strategic analysis and decision making at any point before and
during the period close.
The initial focus of the PeopleSoft In-Memory Real-Time Bottom Line suite of applications is in
two areas: PeopleSoft In-Memory Financial Position Analyzer and PeopleSoft In-Memory
Financial Allocations Analyzer. The first release of these products is now available.
The Real-Time Bottom Line makes the Finance team highly efficient through a step by step walk
through of simulations as follows:

Create a scenario, easily select configurations and version them so they can individually model
out different possibilities.

Through the power of in-memory technology, graphically view the many steps chosen for the
model.

Process the hundreds of rules with lightning speed.

Review and compare scenario results in real-time.

The focus of most organizations is to do more with less. To that end, operational areas need to
quickly achieve objectives with high levels of accuracy and controls. The key to achieving this
goal is to increase productivity of business users, allowing them do their jobs efficiently,
removing bottlenecks, and providing them the right information at the right time. PeopleSoft 9.2
provided a new work paradigm called the WorkCenter to help focus operational users with
everything they needed to complete daily tasks easily and more efficiently. The WorkCenter
efficiency innovation continues in the roadmap with new WorkCenters in Cash and Treasury
Management to improve productivity of the Treasury user community. PeopleSoft Financials will
also deliver the Close WorkCenter which organizations can utilize to process the activity that
must be executed prior to the financial close.
Supporting profitable growth involves providing the right information to the right people at the
right time. Enterprises need real time, actionable data in the context of specific financial tasks to
better manage and execute their business decisions. Oracle plans to provide real time insight to
managers to assist in managing the operation with a real time reporting solution. The PeopleSoft

27

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

Transactional Business Intelligence solution will allow end users to create reports using Oracle
OBIEE and easily slice and dice operational data for analysis. Business users can create ad-hoc
reports on the fly and wont be hampered with having to know the data structure. IT can take the
resources now dedicated to ad-hoc reports and better leverage them toward business innovation
support.
Correcting errors is often a manual, tedious task that negatively impacts productivity and
potentially the bottom line because it interferes with the proper flow of transaction processing.
In order to improve productivity and improve controls, PeopleSoft plans to provide the ability to
manage Billing errors that are integrated from third party systems in an automated and controlled
facility using business rules and drivers. Another aspect of correction is to prevent bad data from
being integrated into the financial system. The roadmap will also deliver an enhanced capability
to support rules driven validation of spend invoices into PeopleSoft eSettlements. This will stop
incorrect supplier data from being integrated into PeopleSoft Financials and reduce the costs of
corrections and reconciliations.
Higher Education and Research Institutions need to manage Letters of Credit for research
funding. PeopleSoft will continue to meet the needs of higher education and healthcare
customers that receive funds for sponsored research by improving the Letter of Credit Billing
process.
Organizations need to reduce the cost of billing and collections, while improving overall
customer service. PeopleSoft eBill Payment is an enterprise management solution for businessto-business and business-to-consumer relationships. Oracle continues the effort to improve
customer self service to support reducing days sales outstanding while improving the cash flow
position. Oracle will provide new dispute resolution capabilities through PeopleSoft eBill
Payment, improvements to the Collections Workbench and Installment Payments in PeopleSoft
Receivables.
PeopleSoft has had a long history of working to reduce the cost of ownership. PeopleSoft
Financials has contributed to this effort through automation of compliance and controls and
common business functions. Oracle also plans to introduce new features that will directly help
Finance departments reduce operational costs while staying compliant with regulatory and
legislative directives.
Organizations must manage the Chart of Accounts updates with diligence and collaboration.
PeopleSoft General Ledger 9.2 introduced a new and innovative capability to manage the Chart
of Accounts called ChartField Request. We have seen the impact of social networking and
collaboration in a number of business areas. The roadmap will focus efforts on imbedding
collaboration into this critical process. This will allow finance and other users to communicate,
collaborate and decide what is needed when it comes to the Chart of Accounts values and their
respective attributes.

28

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

The reconciliation of bank statements to the payments position is a critical and necessary aspect
of every organizations control policies. As Bank Statement Reconciliation gets more
sophisticated, PeopleSoft plans to automate the tedious task of matching multiple transactions to
a single bank statement line. Using reference IDs, comments and many such identifying
attributes, PeopleSoft will automate reconciling many transactions to a single bank statement line
in its automated bank statement reconciliation process, reducing time and resources required for
this task.
Customers are challenged with ever increasing regulatory reporting requirements to multiple
regulatory bodies. This generally takes the form of reporting of financial data at different levels.
PeopleSoft will introduce the PeopleSoft Data Mapper, a new capability that will allow customers
to identify the financial data to be utilized and the format in which it needs to be created for
regulatory reporting. This will reduce the overhead on IT to meet the constantly changing
regulatory reporting requirements.
PeopleSoft FSCM has provided tools to provide efficiency in processing and optimal use of
system resources. The roadmap will continue to focus on optimization of resources based on
business need. PeopleSoft FSCM will introduce Business Driven Process Execution where
financial processes will be triggered not just by a schedule but by user defined business events.
This will address the primary business objectives of the organization and properly utilize available
system resources.
Many PeopleSoft customers have front-end systems that manage business activities which feed
into the ERP. These systems have different structures and dont have the differentiating
capabilities such as the robust inter/intra unit accounting, detailed ledger balancing, combination
editing of the chart of accounts found in PeopleSoft Financials. In order to reduce the
movement of combination data and accounting rules, PeopleSoft Financials will provide a thirdparty accounting set of capabilities that will take the third party accounting events, validate the
activity as per PeopleSoft rules and create valid accounting that will pass through to the
PeopleSoft GL correctly. This will reduce error correction and reconciliation on the back end.
PeopleSoft Financial Management Solutions are built on a global platform that supports the
architecture, languages, currencies, accounting, statutory compliance, and reporting capabilities
that enterprises require to compete in the world economy today. Our single-product approach
provides a flexible foundation for supporting global business processes: because major economy
business processes are included in the core products, these enable businesses to support global
operations without having to customize. PeopleSoft is in full compliance with the main mandates
used, such as IFRS standards and SOX. We provide functionality to automate the more intensive
international accounting standards and requirements. The International Accounting Standards
Board (IASB) and the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) which set accounting rules
for the United States and most of the rest of the world are working to change accounting rules in
the areas of asset leasing, revenue recognition, investment instrument accounting and top level

financial consolidation and reporting. PeopleSoft Financials will support the results of mandated
changes in support of our global customer base.

PeopleSoft Enterprise Service Automation and Asset Lifecycle

Management
With respect to the product direction for the PeopleSoft Enterprise Service Automation
(Projects) and PeopleSoft Asset Lifecycle Management (ALM) applications, Oracle intends to
continue its focus on the themes of enabling (1) comprehensive support for managing an
organizations capital infrastructure lifecycle, (2) enterprise project portfolio management, (3) a
flexible services supply chain, and (4) comprehensive post-award contract and grant
management. Underpinning these four themes are the principles of simplicity, productivity, and a
lower total cost of ownership (TCO).
Driving simplicity is a major element of the PeopleSoft Projects and ALM applications roadmap.
Oracle delivered many new capabilities with the release of PeopleSoft 9.2 in March of 2013 and
during the year since then, and many more enhancements are planned in the years ahead.

With release 9.2, the PeopleSoft Project Costing, Contracts, Grants, Staffing Front Office, and
Maintenance Management applications delivered a variety of business analyst-configurable
exception alerts and role-focused analytical pagelets that aid in discovering and addressing
business issues before they become problems. More analytics that leverage PeopleTools Pivot
Grids and Pivot Charts are planned for these same applications, new analytics were provided
for PeopleSoft Asset Management and Maintenance Management in December of 2014, and
more analytics are planned for PeopleSoft Asset Management, Expenses, Resource
Management, Program Management, and Real Estate Management.

Having the ability to quickly correlate unstructured data stored in project-related artifacts (such
as status reports, written deliverables, resumes, contracts, database text fields, maps, and more)
with large volumes of structured project transaction data could dramatically simplify the capital
infrastructure management, enterprise project portfolio management, and services supply chain
business processes for organizations. In other words, if software were to give a project
manager or resource manager the ability to type some keywords; identify the projects,
activities, and resources whose documents contained the keywords; and return in a
configurable dashboard the related transactional and financial data from PeopleSoft Project
Costing, Resource Management, and other applications; organizations could dramatically
simplify the process of answering questions such as, What is the total budget for all of the
projects our resources with a highly specialized skill have been working on in the past three
months? or What is the total spent to date for all of the active projects that have a particular
risk documented in their risk logs?
To address this previously insurmountable challenge of not only tapping unstructured data to
discover the answers to key business questions but doing so in a matter of seconds (not days),
Oracle created a new application called PeopleSoft In-Memory Project Discovery. The
application combines Oracles Endeca in-memory technology for mining unstructured data
with the analytical processing power and speed of Oracle Exalytics and Exadata Engineered

31

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

Systems to offer a simple interface that gives an organization the unprecedented ability to
navigate and understand project and resource information.

With this kind of information, organizations can expect to achieve a competitive advantage in the
continuing quest to make better project decisions faster.

Global and component searches using Oracles Secure Enterprise Search technology were
made available in PeopleSoft 9.2 to help users navigate PeopleSoft Asset Management and
Expenses more intuitively and to minimize or even eliminate the need to click through
functional menus to find and update information. This same search-driven navigation is
anticipated for projects, contracts, awards, personnel, and other key business documents and
objects in the PeopleSoft Projects and ALM applications.

To enable all parties to a business transaction to interact with the PeopleSoft Projects and
ALM software in ways that naturally accommodate the way people work, PeopleSoft Expenses
delivered line-level approval for timesheets, mobile expense entry, mobile project time entry,
and mobile approval of timesheets. For the future, new several user interfaces are planned for
various PeopleSoft Projects and ALM applications so that project and asset-oriented business
functions and analytics can be extended to users where they need them. Oracle plans to create
these new interfaces with the PeopleSoft Fluid User Interface technology so that they will
render appropriately based on the type of device each person is using to interact with the
application.

To further simplify the provisioning of a flexible services supply chain, PeopleSoft Services
Procurement 9.2 implemented the Automated Workflow Framework for approval of invoices

32

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

and other transactions, added the new role of Engagement Manager, and introduced a number
of other customer-requested capabilities, while PeopleSoft Resource Management and Staffing
Front Office added the ability to perform distance searches between work locations and
resources locations.

To ease the administrative work of asset maintenance schedulers and technicians so they can
stay focused on coordinating and performing maintenance, PeopleSoft Asset Management and
Maintenance Management 9.2 delivered visual hierarchies of work orders, work order tasks
and assets, as well as the ability to view assets and work orders on and create work orders from
a map. Beyond 9.2, PeopleSoft Asset Management and Maintenance Management intend to
keep simplifying the capital infrastructure management business process by continuing to
adopt the Approval Workflow Framework for more transactions, adding options regarding the
scheduling of preventive maintenance when business holidays are encountered, and enabling
the software to generate a preventive maintenance work order for only the assets within a loop
that have reached a particular meter reading interval.

Like any useful tool, software is meant to provide leverage so that organizations can accomplish
more work with the same staff. The investment plan for PeopleSoft Projects and ALM treats
productivity as a critical, if not the most critical, objective.

To drive productivity and better decision-making in project-oriented services firms, Oracle

plans to put more power in the hands of project executives and project managers.
Information-rich, action-enabled dashboards are planned to accelerate the speed at which
services firms can respond to resource, project financial, and client issues. Because project
managers are often working remotely and traveling, Oracle plans to create the new interface
with the PeopleSoft Fluid User Interface technology so that it will render appropriately based
on the type of device each person is using to interact with the application.

Productivity improvements in the services supply chain can significantly improve an

organizations bottom line. For PeopleSoft Expenses users across industries, the ability to
handle unusual but complicated exceptions can provide a substantial productivity gain.
PeopleSoft Expenses intends to expand support in the areas of cash advance reconciliation
and accounting for incorrect reimbursements. For simplifying contractor management,
planned expansions of bid processing configuration are expected to continue raising the
productivity of services coordinators in PeopleSoft Services Procurement.

While PeopleSoft Resource Management automatically updates assignments that have ended in
order to cut the time and effort demanded of project managers, resource managers, and
employees, more automation and process extensions are expected in the future. New
automated updating of service orders combined with new functions and assignment conflict
warnings related to service order and resource assignment changes are planned to further
reduce the demands on resource managers. Additionally, PeopleSoft Resource Management is
expected to offer new service order defaulting options to reduce data entry time and

33

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

requirements, and PeopleSoft Services Procurement intends to offer simplified change order
processing to minimize the effort required for contractor administration.

Continuing the efforts made in PeopleSoft 9.2, major investments are expected in the area of
comprehensive post-award revenue contract and grant management. With the Financial
Accounting Standards Board and the International Accounting Standards Board fundamentally
re-writing the rules that govern contract-based revenue recognition, Oracle intends to evolve
the PeopleSoft Contracts and other relevant applications to support the new standard.
Additionally, these same applications are expected to add new functionality to support the
needs of US Federal government entities and agencies that structure reimbursable agreements
to conduct business among themselves.
Furthermore, new activity guides for contract and grant setup and modification are expected to
ensure that users can quickly, easily, and accurately establish and manage all of their revenue
contracts. An express contract is also planned to reduce the time contract administrators need
to spend establishing and activating contracts.
For PeopleSoft Grants application customers, the flexibility to change Facilities &
Administrative (F&A) rates, automatically recalculate F&A costs, and book those costs is
planned and should offer a notable productivity boost.
Finally, a cross-application focus to offer a streamlined integration across PeopleSoft
Contracts, Grants, Project Costing, and a number of the other PeopleSoft Financials
applications is expected to provide a productivity gain to project and contract-based billing and
revenue recognition.
With all of these planned investments in productivity, organizations should be positioned to
gain even greater control over their revenue management processes and cash flow.

The PeopleSoft ALM applications expect to help asset and lease accountants track and
properly account for ever-larger numbers of assets and leases in response to regulatory changes
and enterprise complexity. With the Financial Accounting Standards Board and the
International Accounting Standards Board fundamentally re-writing the rules that govern
equipment and real estate lease accounting, the PeopleSoft Asset Management and Real Estate
Management applications are being prepared to help organizations adapt to the recordkeeping
challenges that lie ahead. Also continued investment in PeopleSoft Asset Management resulted
in the release of a new feature called the Mass Transaction Manager and plans are being
devised for PeopleSoft Asset Management to offer the ability to reset financial calculations
after they have already run, change the parameters, and re-run the calculations.

The management of facilities, distributed assets, and maintenance work orders is an area ripe
for productivity gains. PeopleSoft Asset Management, Maintenance Management, and Real
Estate Management intend to continue to add capabilities that focus on productivity through
the use of mobile and visual technologies. Enabling organizations to utilize mobile
technologies from Oracle and Oracle ISV partners to take physical inventory of assets, enter

34

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

and update work orders, and identify and schedule resources to projects are areas receiving
investment.

PeopleSoft 9.2 delivers an entirely new user interface paradigm called the WorkCenter to change
how users interact with and think about their work. PeopleSoft Project Costing, Contracts,
Grants, Asset Management, Maintenance Management, and Staffing Front Office contain
these WorkCenters to provide contract administrators, job placement recruiters, post-award
grant accountants, and other key roles in an organization a single console from which they can
easily monitor, analyze, and interact with sets of data. Oracle plans to deliver more
WorkCenters for Expenses, Resource Management, and Real Estate Management so that
users of those applications will also have configurable data filters and pagelets, targeted mass
update capabilities, and quick-action windows to manage the vast majority, if not all, of their
daily work.

In an increasingly competitive and regulated business environment, PeopleSoft applications

customers require a solution that continues to lower the TCO associated with operating it while
it expands its abilities to support the capital infrastructure lifecycle, enable enterprise project
portfolio management, facilitate a flexible services supply chain, and administer a pool of revenue
contracts or grants. To lower TCO, the roadmap for the PeopleSoft Projects and ALM
applications is one that involves both knitting together the technologies and tools that span an
array of functional domains and transferring more power and responsibility for configuring
applications into the hands of business users.

Governing the enterprise project portfolio management business process and the services
supply chain is now easier with the addition of PeopleSoft Resource Management content in
the Oracle Project Analytics dashboards and data warehouse. Resource utilization, skill and
resource demand, and a host of other analytics are readily accessible with Oracles delivery of
this content.

Lowering the cost of building and maintaining a flexible services supply chain was facilitated in
several ways with PeopleSoft 9.2. PeopleSoft Staffing Front Offices integration framework to
connect to external resume parsing and job board solutions now enables organizations to
source resources more effectively and at a lower cost. PeopleSoft Services Procurements new
web services, which accept timesheet data in an HR-XML-compliant format from suppliers
systems, and automated notifications regarding the status of the timesheet data enable
efficiencies in the financial processing related to contractors, as well. For the product roadmap,
new integrations to other leading candidate aggregation sites are anticipated.

Lowering the cost of collaboration for capital infrastructure management, enterprise project
portfolio management, the services supply chain, and post-award contract and grant
management is a key goal. Oracle intends to invest in embedding contemporary social
collaboration functionality, document editing and versioning, and community management
into the PeopleSoft Projects and ALM applications. Targeted, easily understood and
configured frameworks enable organizations to rapidly adapt to changing business and

35

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

regulatory demands. PeopleSoft Asset Managements dynamic bonus depreciation framework

can now extend or support new bonus depreciation as soon as tax legislation is enacted. A
Validation Template Framework was also delivered to give business analysts the ability to easily
require users to enter fields on process request pages in PeopleSoft Contracts, and it is
anticipated that this framework will be extended to all components and pages and a centralized
notes framework will be offered. These frameworks are intended to give organizations the
ability to significantly lower the cost of implementing business rules changes and capturing and
organizing auditable documentation related to transactions.

For project-driven organizations, PeopleSoft Project Costings pricing engine is central to

accounting for projects and contracts. In PeopleSoft Project Costing 9.2, variance pricing, a
vast new sub-system and pricing summarization architecture, and a custom rates feature not
only simplify data administration but also provide re-pricing of massive volumes of
transactions that were priced with provisional rates or the wrong rate. To further lower the
cost of contract and project administration as well as provide support for ever-more complex,
global contract structures, Oracle intends to introduce additional controls over the manner in
which transactions can be priced, structured, and migrated. Oracle expects to add support for
migrating project and contract accounting rules, rate sets, rate plans, and other complex data
sets from one PeopleSoft environment to another using the Data Migration Workbench, a new
PeopleTools product introduced with the release of the PeopleSoft 9.2 applications.

This empowering of business users and simplifying of administrative effort required by IT

accelerates and expands enterprise agility while lowering the cost associated with it.

PeopleSoft Supplier Relationship Management

It is no secret that significant cost savings can be achieved through disciplined execution of supply
management processes and sourcing decisions. Whether it is balancing the right mix of strategic
suppliers, or streamlining internal buying processes, PeopleSoft Supplier Relationship Management
(SRM) delivers the keys to unlock savings opportunities within your organization.

Usability enhancements to reduce training costs and increase requesters productivity with
eProcurement requisitions has been our continued focus with greater, more configurable, rolebased security access and options that offer flexibility to meet the needs of multiple industries,
and multiple user sets. Going forward, our plan is to add even more usability enhancements
such as the ability to leverage a ratings system so requesters can see how their peers or other
users have rated a product or service they may be requesting.

Mobile capability for Requesters was added in 9.2 with the Mobile eProcurement capability.
This capability allowed users to access a streamlined user experience and similar to consumer
sites, present the same types of paradigms such as browsing, Add to Cart and Favorites.
Our plan is to continue extending capabilities in this module by incorporating transparent
punchout to a Suppliers Catalog from the mobile application. We plan to add additional
content management options that will include out-of-the-box integration to MarketPlace
vendors targeted to the Higher Education and Healthcare industries. For users who do not
have a tablet device, we plan on providing requisitioning capability on a SmartPhone with
many of the same capabilities that a Tablet user enjoys.

Supplier Onboarding and Self-Service Registration were added in Release 9.2 to allow potential
bidders and suppliers to apply for Supplier status from either a public site or from an invitation
from your organization. Our plan to expand on this capability includes the ability to determine
Supplier Qualifications to aid in the decision to enroll the supplier as a valid purchase from
entity. In addition we plan to add the capability to use Supplier Metrics against a Suppliers
performance in order to re-qualify the supplier after a period of time. This process will aid
you in keeping your Supplier Master populated with only the best options for your purchasing
organizations.

Expanded search results using Secure Enterprise Search (SES) was added to 9.2 for key SRM
objects. We plan to continue expanding this capability around other SRM records for both
Global and Component search. In addition, we plan to add the capability for users to search
from user-defined fields and identify user-defined facet categories to enable searches by price
ranges, user ratings and more.

Self-Service capabilities are proving to be persuasive tools for making both customers and
employees more self-sufficient. We plan to provide a comprehensive Supplier Portal for
external users to see all business associated with your organization. This portal will allow

37

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

registration of potential suppliers to apply for Supplier status, view bidding opportunities, see
metrics of their procurement activity and inquire about status of invoice payments.

A Supplier Portal Framework and 360-degree view of selected supplier activity across the
enterprise will allow internal users quick access to pertinent information about the supplier.
With similar content to the external view, an internal user may current activity as well as
metrics not available for viewing externally, as well as a rating of the supplier by stakeholders
within the organization.

Significant enhancements are planned for the Total Contracts Management functionality in
SRM including the ability to view Master Contract Hierarchy of all Contract types with a
supplier, including Purchasing Procurement Contracts, Master Contract Enhancements, and
Supplier Contract Integration. The capability for Mobile Contract Approvals in the cloud is
also being explored. Capabilities around loading ad hoc and standard items into a contract
rather than a catalog is also planned so organizations can quickly set up a contract once the
item terms and prices have been negotiated.

WorkCenters and Workbenches have proven to be an excellent productivity tool for users who
spend their days managing specific tasks. In 9.2 we leveraged the WorkCenter framework for
both a buyer with the Buyer WorkCenter and with an administrator who manages supplier
content with the Supplier Management WorkCenter. We plan to add more WorkCenter
capabilities as well as Workbench capability where a user may leverage content specific to their
role. The concept of a Contract Administrator/Manager Workbench is being considered where
an administrator or manager can deal with all the various contract types in the SRM system
(Procurement Contracts, Supplier Contracts, renewals, approvals and more).

eProcurement users, especially those in the Higher Education and Healthcare Industry, are
looking to outsource their catalog management to a Supplier Hub or Marketplace solution.
The Marketplace maintains the connections to the various suppliers and ensures the supplier
catalog is updated with the latest prices, item information etc. Since many customers have
hundreds of suppliers, a Marketplace removes the ongoing burden of loading the supplier
catalogs locally and allows the customer to connect to an existing hub of suppliers.. This
integration will leverage our Transparent Punchout capability which allows a single search
from eProcurement to go out to the Marketplace and return the search results within the
PeopleSoft user interface for comparison and adding to the cart.

Additional mobile capabilities are planned including eProcurement capabilities on a

smartphone (with recent searches and marketplace integration capabilities) as well as enhanced
mobile approvals (with line level approvals) and mobile receiving (eProcurement desktop
receiving on a mobile device).

One of our major updates for 9.2 was a new and intuitive Amazon-like user interface with
new configuration capabilities. Since many of our existing customer have either just upgraded
to 9.1 or are on 9.1 with no plans to upgrade for a while, we are planning on providing a new

38

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

feature called ePRo Connect which will allow our 9.1 FSCM customers to use our 9.2
eProcurement UI (and mobile capabilities) but integrate back to a 9.1 FSCM database. All of
the integration will be provided out of the box as part of the delivery of the feature and, once
installed, customers can enjoy the new advanced UI, mobile and deep Marketplace integration
features of 9.2 while still running a FSCM 9.1 back end.

PeopleSoft Supply Chain Management

PeopleSoft Supply Chain Management offers a comprehensive solution for managing customer
orders, balancing inventory levels, production management, and supply chain planning.

PeopleSoft Mobile Inventory Management was released off-cycle onto PeopleSoft 9.1 in
February 2011. This new application with PeopleSofts Supply Chain Management suite,
Mobile Inventory Management enables users to enter and access information on inventory
availability, process receipts and issues, and do physical and inventory counts without having
to change workstations or work locations. Subsequent 9.2 enhancements provided additional
mobile transactions manage delivery carts, delivery signature capture and delivery lifecycle
inquiry, bin-to-bin transfers, adjustments and more. Further enhancements to this module
include the addition of capabilities to capture Lot ID and Serial ID to inventory transactions as
well as additional functionality around enabling the use of more cost-effective, multi-purpose
scanning devices for use in both Healthcare and Warehouse implementations. Additional
Mobile Inventory enhancements are planned to introduce new streamlined user interfaces for
Mobile Inventory and to expand mobile technology capabilities in Supply Chain Management.

For 9.2 the SCM Supply/Demand WorkCenter introduced the ability to maximize potential
revenue opportunities for manufacturing and distribution companies. The WorkCenter is an
alert-driven component that notifies the key stakeholders of exception conditions in one
central place. We plan to add additional WorkCenters to Supply Chain Management,
specifically for use by the Cost Management group and Pricing Managers. The Cost Manager
WorkCenter will provide the ability to have a central location to research costs, and
reconciliation between Inventory and GL. The proposed Costing WorkCenter could be used
as a central location to monitor costing errors, and to reconcile the inventory sub ledger to the
General Ledger. The proposed WorkCenter for the Pricing Manager has planned capabilities
around the ability to increase/decrease prices on Price Lists and Price Rules, Global Price
Updates to existing business and metrics that gauge the success of pricing policies.

More mobile capabilities are planned with an Order Status On-the-Go status inquiry,
optimized for use on a tablet device. This planned mobile feature for tablet users will
introduce the ability for users and customers to inquire on order activity with an order "Life
Line" visual on a tablet, showing the progression of the order through the initial order entry
until invoicing. It is planned that users user should be able to drill down to see details under
each event.

For 9.2 we replaced the Verity Search capabilities with the Secure Enterprise Search (SES)
flexible component search. We plan to expand this capability to more objects in the Order to
Cash business process and include the ability to do a Global search as well.

Because there is now a difference in how organizations may recognize revenue, changes to
Order Management and Inventory are planned to support Revenue Recognition Changes for

40

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

US GAAP and IFRS Convergence with more flexible methods on how revenue may be
posted. One of the capabilities under consideration is the recognition of revenue based on
Vendor-Specific Objective Evidence (VSOE), which is a requirement for many organizations.

In Release 9.2, additional enhancements are provided to support the use of GS1 standards in
the Healthcare Industry. The GTIN (Global Trade Item Number and GLN (Global Location
Number) are used with main line SRM transactions. Post 9.2 enhancements are also planned
to expand the for GS1 standards and UDI (Universal Device Identifier) requirements in the
SRM and Inventory business flows.

Pricing Updates are a reality in most organizations as changes in the sales landscape force
organizations to adjust to accommodate competitive pressures. We plan to provide tools to
make mass updates to Pricing vehicles such as Price Lists and List Prices so that organizations
can react quickly and efficiently when necessary.

PeopleSoft Enterprise Performance Management

To better serve all of Oracles PeopleSoft EPM customers, Oracle introduced a continuous
software delivery model for PeopleSoft EPM solutions. The new model provides greater agility,
value and reduced costs to our customers where the focus of investment will be industry specific
content. Under this new continuous software delivery model, new customer driven functionality
(i.e. new features and enhancements) have been delivered with bundles. These bundles will
continue to be part of maintenance built on EPM 9.1. PeopleSoft EPM will focus on delivery of
improvements to warehouse content as well as the analytic applications such as Planning and
Budgeting. Building on the enhancements delivered in PeopleSoft 9.1, new enhancements
planned for EPM include improving usability and new packaged analytic content and reporting.

PeopleSoft EPM plans to continue the focus on reducing complexity and costs to customers
through improving usability and performance. Data Lineage will be incorporated into all EPM
Warehouses to provide visibility into the data elements and the relationship to the reporting
content.

PeopleSoft EPM plans to continue to maintain the integrations to the core HCM, ELM, FSCM
and CRM application data through PeopleSoft Update Images.

PeopleSoft EPM will continue to enhance Fusion Campus Solution Intelligence in several
subject areas.

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

PeopleSoft Customer Relationship Management

Organizations today are facing unique challenges that they have never faced before. They are under
growing pressure to produce better results at a time when budget, personnel and other critical
resources are limited. In this economically challenging and uncertain market conditions, organizations
are striving to ensure customer loyalty and satisfaction by achieving more with less.
In PeopleSoft CRM, we plan on delivering solutions that help organizations achieve operational
excellence through simplified user experience, maximized marketing effectiveness, and improved
service delivery efficiency. The features planned are functionally rich and complete, including
consideration of enhancements to marketing, multichannel Service, facet-enabled content search
leveraging the Oracle Secured Enterprise Search, and the user experience that benefit and promote
productivity of every user constituent in all industries.

Many times a Contact Center Manager would like a comprehensive view of the workload of
agents under their management. In 9.2, we provided an Operational Dashboard for both the
agent and the Contact Center Manager. In the future, we plan to expand on this capability with
a Service Managers WorkCenter with a set of comprehensive, and core contact center
management capabilities to help managers effectively monitor and take appropriate actions for
day-to-day contact center business operations. This capability would be optimized for a mobile
tablet device.

HR HelpDesk was enhanced in 9.2 to be called from a specific employee Service Center,
where links to access various needed pieces of information (My Cases, FAQs, My Benefits,
Top Solutions and more). We plan to optimize the HR HelpDesk Service Center for a mobile
device so employees may access this information using their tablets.

For 9.2 we completely redesigned the self-service Support Applications such as HR HelpDesk
and IT HelpDesk. We plan to continue adding additional productivity tools to these areas
with integration to a new Oracle Asset, Inquira, to strengthen the knowledge base for the
Service and HR Help Desk products.

Many companies are leveraging social media as a new marketing channel where the use of
social media applications is dramatically improving campaign ROI, brand retention and
marketing penetration through friend networks and fan bases. PeopleSoft CRM intends to
leverage this growing trend to incorporate social media content integration to enable
companies and institutions to take advantage of this exciting new marketing channel.

We have plans to provide the ability for both internal and external users to obtain case status
with a mobile device, as well as ability to create a new case, and update existing cases. In
addition, we are considering delivering a smartphone app to allow customers and internal
employees to quickly inquire about the status of their service tickets as well as to create a new
ticket with minimal information including (ticket description and the contact details of the

43

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

user). Employees and customers should be able to easily manage their own cases using a
mobile device, including updating a status of the case.

For 9.2 we replaced the Verity Search capabilities in CRM with the Secure Enterprise Search
(SES) flexible component search. We plan to expand this capability to more objects in the
CRM business process and include the ability to do a Global search as well.

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

PeopleSoft Campus Solutions

The past few years have been difficult for most Higher Education institutions. Draconian budget
cuts combined with unprecedented growth in student demand and rapid technology changes
have forced institutions to reprioritize where they focus their energies and look for ways to
innovate. Over this past year, while student demand and technology innovation continue
unabated, we have begun to see some improvement in the technology budgets for many
institutions. However, much of this budget relief is targeted at academic computing and support,
research technology, and student services (aka student satisfaction, student experience, or student
retention) and not at administrative system support. The ongoing diminishing support for
administrative technology is evidenced by institutions struggling to adopt new features, innovate,
and achieve value from their administrative systems in the face of reduced resources and shifting
institutional priorities.
In 2009, we introduced the Continuous Delivery Model for Campus Solutions 9.0 as a
mechanism to continue to deliver a steady stream of new features and functionality while
reducing the burden on institutions to go through costly upgrades cycles to get those new
features and functions. That model has been very successful to date and has enabled us to deliver
a significant number of new features to our customers, including a comprehensive student-facing
mobile application, Campus Mobile. (See the PeopleSoft Campus Solutions Mobile Video
Feature Overview on YouTube for more information.) Campus Solutions delivered functionality
was designed to help institutions manage their increasingly complex business, reduce
customizations, and expand their ecosystem of student management solutions.
But despite these many innovations, we see institutions struggling to take advantage of these
features due to their resource constraints and changing priorities. We hear regularly that
institutions apply the maintenance bundles and then move on to the next project without being
able to take the time to assess and adopt many of the new features as they were able to do with
the more traditional release upgrades.
At the same time, PeopleTools has been delivering a tremendous amount of new and innovative
features and capabilities. Campus Solutions has been constrained in our ability to leverage much
of this new Tools functionality through the Continuous Delivery Model and so our Higher
Education customers have not benefitted from many of these new innovations. Many of these
new features are specifically targeted at helping customers manage their system maintenance
costs, reduce or eliminate customizations, and provide new options for how users interact with
the system, and so are of great value to most Higher Education institutions.

Campus Solutions 9.2

As we examined the various issues and challenges facing us all and the options to address them,
we concluded that the best option and the one that offers the greatest value to our customers is
to deliver a new release of Campus Solutions: Campus Solutions 9.2. However, we are

45

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

deliberately endeavoring to minimize the impact of this upgrade on our customers. The approach
with this new release and upgrade is to deliver it as a roll-up of existing CS 9.0 functionality along
with a new PeopleTools release and then to leverage many of the new capabilities delivered by
PeopleTools. After the upgrade to the 9.2 release, we will then revert to delivering new
enhancements and updates via the Continuous Delivery Model. By focusing on the Tools
capabilities as part of the new 9.2 codeline, we are able to minimize the changes to the data
model and corresponding application codeline, which results in a smaller and more manageable
upgrade process.
At the same time we believe that many customers will want to take this opportunity to refocus
the institution on Campus Solutions and the new capabilities and features that we have delivered
over the past few years. The upgrade provides the opportunity for the institution to focus on and
utilize much of this new functionality, thereby achieving more value from the software and likely
even eliminating some customizations.
Some of the additional benefits of the Campus Solutions 9.2 release include:

A new PeopleTools baseline for the application that allows us to leverage more great
technology innovation.

Consistency across all PeopleSoft applications for the management and support of the
applications.

PeopleSoft Update Manager: a new way for you to select and install only the maintenance
patches you need, when you need them.

Fluid UI: a redesign of our student self service pages using this new Tools-based technology
that provides a modern, flexible, browser-based student experience for use with any device.

New Search-Based Navigation provides familiar, intuitive search capabilities that simplify
navigation and yield actionable results.

Enterprise Components, such as the configurable Forms Builder and Approval Workflow
Engine to automate many of the processes and data requirements of your institution.

We intend to deliver the Campus Solutions 9.2 release and upgrade sometime in 2015. In the
meantime, we continue to deliver ongoing enhancements and support for the current Campus
Solutions 9.0 release.

Campus Solutions 9.0

Some of the highlights of what we plan to deliver for Campus Solutions 9.0 over the next twelve
months fall into the following categories:

Student Completion, Assessment, and Success. We have delivered significant portions of the
Activity Management and Program Enrollment features, which assist institutions in tracking
student outcomes and competencies, to plan and manage curriculum, and to manage student

46

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

enrollment in a structured and controlled way. We plan to continue to introduce new

enhancements to these two important new, strategic features. (See the Program Enrollment
Video Feature Overview on YouTube for more information.)

Evaluations Management. Utilizing workflow and notifications in a single accessible

workcenter, Evaluation Management allows evaluators to analyze materials, collaborate with
colleagues and follow standardized decision making procedures that can be configured to fit
your business requirements. We plan to continue to deliver additional features and
enhancements to the already robust functionality that has been deployed for Evaluation
Management. (See the Evaluation Management Video Feature Overview on YouTube for
more information.)

Preserving Key Local Needs. Most institutions have some unique requirements, whether
driven by institutional needs, a university system or governing body, or a regional or national
government. We have delivered a number of features to enable institutions to support their
needs without having to implement and manage costly customizations.

The Common Attribute Framework enables institutions to extend the delivered data model
by adding their unique data elements, without customization. We plan to continue to extend
this capability even further to a number of key records in the system.

We have also introduced the Rules Engine to enable business users to define business rules
and logic for specific processes and pre-integrated it with key features such as Program
Enrollment, Activity Management, Research Enrollment Tracking and the Evaluation
Management System. We plan to continue to enhance this new framework including
providing a variety of sample rules and templates to assist usersin building their own rules.

Flexible Data Loading Capability. Prospect/Admissions Data Load provides new structures
that will allow you to load and process almost any external file containing data that requires
staging and search/match processing for posting data to production records. This could
include, but is not limited to admissions test scores, prospects, placement exams, and internal
academic knowledge test results. We intend to continue the migration from currently
supported test scores and admissions applications loads to this new form of processing. By
creating a common data load mechanism, we can provide a methodology that will allow
institutions to control and respond to external data providers and to create their own data
loads depending on their business needs.

Oracle Statement of DirectionPeopleSoft

Conclusion
Oracle continues to offer leading edge innovation throughout PeopleSoft. As outlined in the
beginning of this document, simplicity, productivity, and lowered TCO are expected to remain at
the core of Oracles planned capabilities for PeopleSoft applications for the foreseeable future.
Oracle believes capabilities centered on these universal design principles address the challenges
that customers currently face and will continue to face tomorrow. Those challenges include an
extended and more internet savvy set of users, the need to do more with less, and the constant
pressure to reduce operational costs. While this multi-year Statement of Direction documents
Oracles current investment plans for PeopleSoft, Oracle intends to validate its strategy regularly
with its customers through Customer Advisory Boards, Strategy Councils, and direct one-to-one
customer engagements to ensure that Oracle delivers the most long-term value possible to its
customers.
As mentioned previously, our planned release strategy will be to offer both off-cycle capabilities
through PeopleSoft Update Images delivered on a regular basis and major releases delivered
approximately every three years. These releases will consist of developing and delivering on ideas
and enhancement requests based on customer feedback and priorities.
