Refer to Risk Assessment No W@H 001, 002, 003, for Working at Height Equipment.
Prior to commencement of roof tiling works the squad supervisor will visually inspect the
scaffolding to ensure it is free from obvious defects / hazards. This will include verification
of the provision of edge protection at all working platforms and gable edge protection to
prevent falls from the roof. Where faults are identified these will be reported to the PC
and squad will not commence work until PC has undertaken suitable remedial action.
The distance between the top platform and scaffold should not exceed 400mm. Where
platforms are found to be lower than this the PC will be advised.
No scaffold will be altered by any person during the tiling works unless they have been
trained and authorised to do so.
Where required to mitigate the consequences of any falls through the roof, Soft Landing
Bags or a Crash Deck system will be installed.
All tiles and other materials will be loaded onto the scaffold through use of the loading bay
tower specific to that scaffold. Loading bay gates will be closed at all times when not in
use.
Mechanical lifting aids will be utilised to transport material to the working area where
possible.
Employees will ensure scaffold platform remains tidy, free from excessive debris and that
access / egress routes remain clear.
Tiles will not be cut on the roof. A dedicated cutting area will be established on the
scaffold platform with a sacrificial board to protect scaffold components.
When cutting any tiles, water suppression will be used at all times. Appropriate P.P.E will
be used by operatives cutting the tiles and any person within the immediate areas.
Any person using RPE will be face fit tested to ensure there is an adequate seal between
to the user and mask.
Debris and off-cuts will be removed from scaffolding at the end of each day.
Scaffold edge protection will be erected at the gables of any structure to prevent any falls.
No tiles will be stored on the roof during poor weather conditions.
