PEROY, Khely A.

1. The prize offered to the winner of the Google Lunar Xprize is

20 million dollars and to be able to win, one/a team must have
to do the following:
a.)Escape the Earths gravity.
b.)Cross the 400,000 km to the moon.
c.) Make course corrections to avoid smacking into the moons
surface.
d.)Begin slowing down to descend towards the moons surface,
and find a place to land.
e.)The craft has to release a hover or a smaller hopper on the
surface of the moon.
f.) The said hover or hopper has to travel a distance of 500
meters.
g.)Moon cast must be initiated; pictures and videos are to be
sent back to Earth.
h.)Lastly, the team has to be 90% privately funded, which
means no government spending is allowed. Therefore, the
team has to find innovative ways to keep their costs down.
2. The reason in going to the moon in 1960 was because of a
political competition between the United States and the Soviet
Union. A space race to the moon was one of the reasons of
going to the moon, and another reason was to prove that
humans can indeed walk on the moon. The reasons why man
is going back to the moon for good in the present day is for
man to explore the outer world more, to look for future
settlements for man to live and work in the future, and to
gather resources to enrich the life here on Earth. Scientists
think that the solutions for the problems we have here on Earth
may be on the moon or somewhere in outer space.
3. The motive of going back to the moon for good in the present
day would be much more sustainable and feasible because it is
giving modern man a chance to explore more of the world
outside the Earth. The bigger the information man can gather,
the bigger the possibilities man can do with such information.
4. In Greek Mythology, Prometheus is the god who has brought
fire down from heaven and gave it to mankind when Zeus has
denied the use of fire. Prometheus has opened up the gates for
the first technology for mankind, which recognizes man as

cognitive species, and no longer as biological species. Fire

became the basis of technology, it can be used to cook,
change materials, create light and paved up ways for the
creation of new machines.
5. The new form of fire is the power of the nucleus (nuclear
power). It has not been developed further because it provokes
more fear to mankind because of the huge amount of radiation
it carries along with it, along with false environmentalism and
colonialism. Funding of developing nuclear power plants was
denied and according to environmentalists, anything people do
is unnatural, thus hindering the development of nuclear power.
Coal is still being burned nowadays because the said nuclear
power did not become a dominant source compared to coal.
6. Nuclear fusion is the combination of two small nuclei while
nuclear fission is the splintering apart of a large nucleus and is
a rapid release of energy. Helium 3 is a new kind of fire
because it is an ideal fuel for nuclear fusion power and is more
feasible to use because it no longer involves heat.
7. If nuclear fusion technology is to be used around the globe,
then yes, Helium 3 is worth going to the moon. According to
Ouyang Zihuan, reserves of Helium 3 across the Earth would
only amount to 15 tons, while 100 tons of Helium 3 will be
needed each year if nuclear fusion technology is applied to
meet the global energy demands. On the other hand, the Moon
has reserves estimated between one and five million tons. A
Helium 3 economy can change lives by not worrying about
having enough energy, no more fluorescent bulbs, and
incandescent light bulbs can be used and drought will no
longer be a problem. Oceans can be mined and new materials
can be designed by isotopes such as artificial diamonds which
are stronger than the real ones.
8. The Moores Law discussed by Dr. Michio Kaku talks about how
the future can be reasonably predicted out. According to the
Moores Law, by 2020, chips may actually cost a penny,

computers will be everywhere and nowhere and millions of

chips will be scattered into our world.
9. Dr. Kaku explained The Internet: The Magic Mirror because in
the near future, the internet can access the entire database of
human knowledge. The internet mirrors prosperity because
internet is everywhere, if a certain country has no access to
internet, then such country is experiencing great poverty.
10. The article I have chosen is The World in 2030 by Dr. Michio

Kaku. It was discussed in his talk certain gadgets physicists are

working on for the near future. Gadgets we have never even
imagined were possible such as contact lenses which can
access the internet, driver-less cars, toilets that can analyse
ones health, a human body shop which grows actual body
parts and the possibility of invisibility. Economics clearly is
behind the endeavours of such physicists. The demand for
such gadgets is increasing because of mans capability of
imagination. Such gadgets were created by mankind and
presented to the public, which perks up the curiosity of the
people who have seen such and people who long to experience
such gadgets. Hence, those who are capable of studying such
are now working on making things work to provide the demand
of the majority.
