Stonewall Jackson Youth Development Center Project Proposal
Our project will consist of research about the Stonewall Jackson Youth Development
Center located in Concord, NC. All five group members will need to find 10 different sources
using books, online sources, interviews, etc. Through weekly meetings we will pull together our
resources and collaborate on this project. The main goal of these meetings are to make sure we
are all staying on track and further progressing on our project. We will be presenting our findings
through a 25 minute oral presentation, alongside with a power point presentation. Our group has
decided to present our research in the form of a power point. We are beginning to look up and
research many things on our subject, but we also plan on going and visiting the Stonewall
Jackson Youth Development Center and the museum located in Cabarrus County. There we will
take pictures of some of the remaining buildings to show as a visual in our presentation. Also, we
want to get pictures of some of the original buildings off the internet so we can show some
comparison. Along with pictures, we also want to try and see if there are any short video clips of,
or about, the center available online that we could share with the class. We hope the pictures and
clips will give better insight to our topic. The pictures and videos will allow us to use a visual
and aural mode. To gain insight on the development center our group has also planned to try and
speak with various people at the museum, as well as people who live in the area. Interviewing
different individuals will help us gain more knowledge on our topic, and also allow us to know
others opinions on the Stonewall Jackson Training School. By hearing others stories and

opinions, it will not only allow us to expand our knowledge on our subject, but will also allow us
to give a thorough presentation. All of our research, interviews, pictures and videos our group
gathers will greatly benefit our presentation and will hopefully help us cover many of the
questions our peers will have about the school.
Our group has set up a plan for our project and our presentation. We have gathered
together everyones schedules for convenient times on meeting to discuss our project. We know
we are to have ten sources each. For one of our sources we have decided to go to the museum in
Concord, as suggested to us, and look around to hopefully find a person from the museum to
interview about our topic. Visiting the museum will further educate us on our topic and help us
better our presentation. Our plan for our project will be effective in creating an outline and a
guide to keep our roles for our presentation in line. It will provide a guide for us to follow to help
better organize our information.
Our group will also incorporate the different multi-modes in our presentation. We have
used a linguistic mode through writing our two page proposal and explaining the layout of our
project. We will also use a linguistic mode when presenting our project. Our linguistic mode will
be us delivering a spoken text through presenting our power point.
Next, we plan on using a visual and aural mode while presenting our topic. We intend on
using pictures we take during our visit, while also finding original pictures of the buildings and
surroundings so we can show some comparison. Along with pictures, we also plan on trying to
find a video clip of the center to try and give some perspective on our topic.
Lastly, our group will use spatial and gestural modes during our presentation. We will be
using a power point and have it organized according to what all we will be talking about. Also,
we have arranged a time to practice our presentation, so we will feel comfortable with our topic

and can talk to the class. We know it is important to have good body language and facial
expressions while presenting, which is something we will make sure to cover when going over
how we will present.
