POETERY FROM THE PRO

May
Its May! Lets ride a kite, a colorful kite. One that flies high and
high. One that keeps on spinning round and round, and if it hits
the ground, it keeps on the grass without out a sound. Its May!
Lets fly a kite.

A DAY AT THE MUSEUM BY PAULA B.

Recently, our Art Class took a trip to the Mattituck Museum in
Waterbury. I was so interested in the dresses they showcased
from the 1800s. Another display was The Waterbury Button
Factory was a big thriving company. They employed many
people back in that same time period. They showed many
buttons that were made back then. They had drawers filled with
them. I couldnt believe how much better the buttons were. We
all had a great time learning about the history of the area. We all are looking
forward to our next museum trip in the near future!

DID YOU KNOW THE FOLLOWING FACTS? BY PHYLLIS K.

The Community Warm Line was started in 1985 when BHcare was known as
Valley Mental Health Center. Julianne M. is an original operator of the line
and the longest working operator of all the lines in Connecticut, with 31 years
experience.
The Valley Social Club was founded in 1980. There were only 10 members and
they met in the basement of Christ Church in Ansonia. They only met a few
times a week then. Today, we are open 5 days a week from 8:30am to 5pm and
one night a week until 7pm for the Evening Social.
Peer Run Groups at the center have been in existence for over 15 years. Our
most popular group is Bingo which meets every Tuesday at 2pm.
We have over 65 members that participate at any given time in the club
activities. This year we have more folks from the Young Adults program than
ever before which has made our club better, stronger, and more diverse!

A DAY AT THE CIRCUS!

Elephants, camels and clowns, Oh My! Club members and I had the unique
pleasure of attending the Garden Brothers Circus in April. The show had
something for everyone. Exciting overhead trapeze artists, made us all gasp
with delight along with the gymnasts and elephants who all did amazing
tricks. They also had trained camels which were unusual to see up close as
were the
miniature ponies. Later we stopped at a Chinese buffet for lunch.
Thanks to Jacques for taking us. We all had fun.

FAREWELL OL FRIEND
Losing members of this club is never easy and when it happens, it seems to
happen all too fast! We shared a dual memorial on March 31st for Mike K.
who came to the club for many years. He was also a member of the Fellowship
Place in New Haven. We have always had a policy of allowing past members
to visit the club. Mike did that from time to time. He visited his friends, had a
cup of coffee, and would hope to visit with his sister Christine. Mike always
had a story to tell about his days working in the family restaurant or
something he experienced. We all hope Mike is in a better place. Our membership would like to thank the staff and members of the Fellowship Place for
hosting this beautiful service! Christine would like to thank the members of
the club for their support!

GONE FISHIN !
Uncle John's fishing group is once again hitting the local shores
looking to hook the big one ! Like hes done in the past John will be
bringing folks to local fishing holes for a few hours of fishing. John
provides the ride, poles, bait, and everything you need except the
license. Licenses can be purchased at your local town hall or sporting
goods store. John will be starting on Friday May 13 and go every other
week from 10-12pm. The monthly schedule will be posted in the social
club. Remember you must have the license with you each time you
plan to go. This group will continue all summer as long as there is
interest.
