INTRODUCTION ABOUT COLLEGE OF NURSING

ARYA SAMAJ & DAV MANAGEMENT


Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati, the great path maker of modern India founded the Arya Samaj, a
radical and progressive movement with a call Book to the Vedas. He emphasized and preached
that the path shown by our great Rishis in Vedas can lead India to progress and salvation. He
formulated 10 principles to serve as guidelines for his followers. He emphasized that we should
dispel the darkness of ignorance through the spread of education. The enlightened visionaries
and followers of the great Guru decided to set up educational Institutions is his memory and
founded Dayanand Anglo Vedic College Trust and Management Society in 1886 at Lahore. The
sapling of the DAV movement planted in 1886 has grown into a big banyan tree. Now it is
running more than 675 schools & colleges all over India & Abroad. The DAV Institutions have
always worked with a missionary zeal in the field of education.
The DAV College Trust and Management Society has been nurtured by the dedicated social
workers, patriots, jurists & educationists of eminence like Mahatma Hans Raj Ji, Pt. Guru Dutt,
Lala Lajpat Rai, Principal Sain Dass, Pt. Mehr Chand, Justice Mehr Chand Mahajan, Justice

Bakshi Tek Chand, Sh. G.L. Dutta, Lala Suraj Bhan, Sh. Veda Vyasa, Justice J.L. Kapoor, Sh.
T.R. Tuli, Padmashree G.P. Chopra, Justice R.N. Mittal, Sh. Vishwanath & Sh. M.L. Khanna.
THE INSTITUTE OF NURSING & HOSPITAL
The Institute has been named after Mahatma Hans Raj Ji, the forefather of DAV Movement, a
great visionary, an embodiment of dedication, devotion & self abnegation, who worked
honorarily as founder Headmaster of the first DAV High School at Lahore. He served the society
in various capacities without accepting a penny as remuneration. He was the flag runner of
spreading education particularly educating the women who has been relegated to the background
in the past. Mahatma Hans Raj Ji, the Pioneer of Arya Samaj and DAV Movement played a
pivotal role in the upliftment of women folk in India.
Apart from imparting conventional education to the students, DAV Institutions make sincere
efforts to awaken social & moral consciousness among them. In order to add one more link in the
vast chain of Institutions the DAV College Managing Committee decided to start Mahatma
Hans Raj DAV Institute of Nursing at Jalandhar. The main objective of this course (B.Sc.
Nursing) is to provide properly qualified services in the area where deficiency has been acutely
felt. The Institution will cater local as well as global needs by educating and training well
qualified nurses.
VISION STATEMENTS
Vision statements reflect the ideal image of the organization in the future. They create a focal
point for strategic planning and are time bound, with most vision statements projected for a
period of 5 to 10 years. The vision statement communicates both the purpose and values of the
organization. For employees, it gives direction about how they are expected to behave and
inspires them to give their best. Shared with customers, it shapes customers understanding of
why they should work with the organization.

Our Vision to give quality education and services to the society under the DAV Banner and to
inculcate the values of Arya Samaj to the students and society.
MISSION AND PURPOSE
Mission and purpose are used interchangeably, though at theoretical level, there is a difference
between two. Mission has external orientation and relates the organization to the society in which
it operates. A mission statement helps the organization to link its activities to the needs of the
society and legitimize its existence. Purpose is also externally focused but it relates to that
segment of the society to which it serves; it defines the business which the institution will
undertake.
MEANING OF MISSION

Any important task or duty that is assigned ,allotted or self imposed.

An important goal or purpose that is accomplished by strong conviction.

By Mahatma Gandhi,A small body of determined spirits fired by an unquenchable faith in their
mission can alter the course of history.

By Abdul Kalam, ,To succeed in your mission , you must have single minded devotion to your
goal.

Our mission is to produce quality Nurses to serve the humanity. We have the mission of starting
Post- Certificate Diploma courses in specialized branches in the hospital after completion of our
own hospital.

MEANING OF PHILOSOPHY
The term philosophy is derived from or can be traced to the greek word philosophia which is
made up of two words phileo and sophia means love and Sophia means wisdom. Therefore ,
the literal meaning of the word philosophy is love of wisdom
PHILOSOPHY ACCORDING TO I.N.C
INC believes that:

Health is a state of well-being that enables a person to lead a psychologically, socially and
economically productive life. Health is not a privilege but a right of all the people. Individuals,
families and communities have a responsibility towards maintaining their health.
Nursing contributes to the health services in a vital and significant way in the health care
delivery system. It recognizes national health goals and is committed to participate in the
implementation of National Health policies and programmes. It aims at identifying health needs
of the people, planning and providing quality care in collaboration with other health
professionals and community groups.
Scope of nursing practice encompasses provision of promotive, preventive, curative and
rehabilitative aspects of care to people across their life span in wide variety of health care
settings. Practice of nursing is based upon application of basic concepts and principles derived
from the physical, biological, behavioral sciences.
Nursing is based on values of caring, and aims to help individuals to attain independence in selfcare. It necessitates development of compassion and understanding of human behavior among its
practitioners to provide care with respect and dignity and protect the rights of individuals &
groups.
Undergraduate nursing program at the post basic level is a broad based education within an
academic framework, which builds upon the skills and competencies at the diploma level. It is
specifically directed to the upgrading of critical thinking skills, competencies & standards
required for practice of professional nursing and midwifery as envisaged in National Health
Policy 2002.

The teachers have the responsibility to be role models and create learning environment that
enables students to acquire inquiry driven, self directed learning and foster an attitude of life long
learning.

Under graduate nursing education program at the post basic level prepares its graduates to
become exemplary citizen by adhering to code of ethics and professional conduct at all times in
fulfilling personal, social and professional obligations so as to respond to national aspirations.
Nursing is both a profession and a discipline that is responsive to changing health needs. It is
concerned with human experiences and responses to birth, health, illness, and death within the
context of individuals, families, groups, and communities. Nurses, often in collaboration with
other health care professionals, promote the optimal health care and comfort of individuals and
groups through the systematic application of knowledge from nursing and related disciplines.
The faculty of the school of nursing believes that the basic course in nursing is a formal
educational preparation which should be based on educational principles. We recognize it as the
foundation on which the practice of nursing is built and on which further professional education
depends . We believe that the students after their professional education as a nurse acquire all
requirements for fulfillment of their needs, personality development and character formation.
We believe that we have responsibility to the student and to society, to make provision in the
programme for the continued development of the student as an individual, a citizen as well as a
nurse.
School of Nursing seeks to prepare its students to practice holistic nursing care in an
increasingly complex and rapidly changing health care environment. School will encourage
development of the total person, including intellectual, physical, psychosocial, moral, and
spiritual aspects. Within nursing coursework, students become competent with a variety of
skills, learn to reason with judgment, develop respect for the inherent worth of every human
being, reflect upon personal values and attitudes, and demonstrate commitment to lifelong
learning and to the profession.
The faculty members support Associate of Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Nursing,
and Master of Science in nursing programs within a private, comprehensive university. They are
committed to providing programs of learning that meet the needs of a diverse student population,
including both traditional and nontraditional learners. They believe that educational methods that

are supportive of students in teaching/learning situations are essential. Recognizing the unique
worth of each student, the faculty members support individualized attention to assist students as
they develop and work toward the attainment of their individual goals.
The faculty believes that education is based on humanistic approaches that foster critical
thinking and promote awareness of social and cultural diversity among individuals. The faculty
views each student as a unique person with special talents, abilities, needs, and goals. Cultural
diversity, varying life experiences, and changing socioeconomic factors affect each student
differently. To this end, faculty endeavor to provide an environment that assists students to
realize their full potential. The acquisition of professional knowledge and the development of
clinical competence occur through active involvement of the student in the learning process.
Students assume primary responsibility for learning, while faculty provides educational
opportunities for knowledge acquisition and professional role development. We believe that an
atmosphere of shared growth and inquiry offers the maximum potential for development.

Believe that the philosophy of nursing education is consistent with philosophy of general
education, which is at par with other degree programme in the community.

Believe that the professional nursing requires a nurse to possess technical competency
based on clinical knowledge and skill in human relations, social understanding, health
knowledge, technical skills & realization of professional responsibilities.

Believe that the nursing is a service to individuals, families and therefore to the society.

Believe that the nursing profession can implement this philosophy through University
education & research programme based on scientific principles and critical thinking.

Believe that the Bachelor of Nursing (B.Sc. Nursing) programme is a formal educational
programme with holistic approach to health care with inclusion of

its own and

complementary theories related to health.

Believe that the well-balanced personality and all round development of nursing graduate
is a pre-requisite to the successful completion of B.Sc. Nursing programme.

The faculty reorganizes and assumes the responsibility of educating and preparing
individuals to bring about positive changes in the health care delivery system.

The aim of the graduate nursing program at the basic level is to upgrade the nurses to :

Assume responsibilities as professional, competent nurses and midwives at basic level in

providing promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative services.


Make independent decisions in nursing situations, protect the rights of and facilitate
individuals and groups in pursuit of health, function in the hospital , community nursing
services and conduct research studies in the areas of nursing practice. They are also
expected to assume the role of teacher, supervisor, manager in a clinical/public health

settings.
To prepare nurses to function at hospital with skills to fulfill the health needs of the
client. She will be an active member of health team.

MAIN OBJECTIVES OF M.H.R DAV INSTITUTE OF NURSING, JALANDHAR


In harmony with this philosophy, the college of nursing has the following objectives to provide
opportunities for the students to:1. Develop a sound philosophy of life with such attitude and ideals that are consistent with
the real way of life and will be helpful in meeting personal problems.
2. Learn to recognize the physical, mental, social, emotional & spiritual needs of patient and
his family and co-operate with other health professionals in meeting their needs.
3. Acquire basic scientific knowledge and skill in nursing profession to contribute as a
member of health care team in providing promotive, preventive, curative & restorative
services.

4. Develop an ability to listen to patient and other fellow workers and communicate with
patients and other fellow workers in easily understandable language.
5. Develop creativity and personality to lead a disciplined life.
6. Aspire for higher studies in nursing and take the profession to its heights through research
in clinical and educational setting.
7. Demonstrate leadership qualities and decision-making abilities in various situations.
8. To practice code of ethics and nursing pledge in their professional life.

INSTITUTE CAMPUS
The Institute has its own attractive building in 5 acre of land situated adjacent to Burlton Park
behind Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya on Gulab Devi Road.
