1. Design a 3 volt AC to DC power supply using the 1N5225B zener diode and 1N914
diodes provided. Consider methods to reduce the DC ripple as much as possible.
Additional components such as resistors and capacitors may be required. Be sure to not
exceed 80% of the ratings on your components.

The components used to build the circuit where a 47uf capacitor, a 10K resistor,1N5225B zener
diode and four 1N914 diodes.
2. Calculate the minimum and maximum input voltages and the minimum and maximum
load resistances. Note that the input voltages are dependent on the load resistances.

Minimum and Maximum Voltages

Minimum
To find the minimum voltage I first had to take away the zener diode away since we want the minimum we
dont want current going through it.
The 3v that goes
thru the 10k
resistor comes from
the data sheet of
the zener diode.

.0003 A200 =.06 V
3.06+2.00=5.06

Therefore the minimum voltage is 5.06v

Maximum

.0213A*200=4.26V
4.26+3.00=7.26
7.26+2.00=9.26

Therefore the minimum voltage is 9.26

Minimum and Maximum Load Resistances

Therefore the minimum Load resistance is 100 ohms

Therefore the maximum Load resistance is 176 ohms

3. Simulate and verify the design in Multisim

Lab Exercises

The zener diode lessens the ripple and with the capacitor it practically removes the ripples giving
us the above.

1. Construct the power supply using the bench power supply as an AC source.
2. Measure the following parameters: input voltage, output voltage, output current, Zener
current and ripple voltage (at the load) at minimum load, maximum load and 10%
increments in between.
Input maximum voltage= 9.26v
Input minimum voltage=5.06v
Output current= 3/1k=.0003A
Zener current=22mA
Post Lab Exercises
1. Plot all data collected. Using the data collected to create a plot showing load vs minimum
and maximum input voltage and load vs ripple current. Include a short report describing
your method of design, showing your calculations and simulations.

Conclusion:
We designed the circuit with a 47uf capacitor, a 10K resistor,1N5225B zener diode and four
1N914 diodes. The zener and the other diodes where given by the professor. For the capacitor we
choose that one because we only had that type from last semester and some other one, but after
trying the other one we decided to use the 47uf because it made the line closer to the 3v. For the
resistor we were just trying different ones and testing them out on OrCAD. To simulate and
verify the design we used OrCAD instead of multisim, we did this just because OrCAD was the
only program we had on our laptop but it works just like multisim.
