Read the following text very carefully.

GREEN ISSUES
Young people today are more conscious of the environment than ever
before. This is the first green generation. But there are so many different
green issues: theres the greenhouse effect, acid rain, air pollution, nuclear
waste, habitat destruction some teenagers in London were asked about
their green priorities.
SOPHIE, 15

I worry most about the rainforest. We learnt about it in Geography. Too


much is being cut down, for the benefit of rich corporations. It is difficult to
replant when it is cut down, because the nutrients in the soil are washed
away. The forest houses so many varieties of birds and other animals that do
not exist anywhere else in the world. When they lose their home they
become extinct.

At the moment whats affecting us most is the greenhouse effect, the


climate changes all over the world, reduced rainfall. Higher water level,
things like that. Its being caused by old fridges, aerosols, cans but I would
say the main offenders are probably things like cars and old coal powered
power stations.
I use CFC-free aerosols. I like to recycle and things like that, so
resources arent wasted cars, bottles, papers, magazines and anything
that I can find that will recycle and that I dont need anymore. I believe
theres probably a wind of change.
