CAREER GOALS
1

Why are you pursuing your degree? What are your career goals and how will this degree help
you achieve them?

SCAVENGER HUNT

I am pursuing my degree to not only further my career but to advance my life goal of

developing a nonprofit organization. I would like to provide sheltered workshop services to the
Prader-Willi Syndrome population in my community. The Prader-Willi Syndrome population in
my community currently is not being serviced in the surrounding day programs due to their strict
guidelines and restrictions. Prader-Willi syndrome is a non-hereditary birth defect resulting from
a disorder of chromosome 15. It is a serious, life-long, and lives threatening medical condition
occurring in 1:12,000-1:15,000 live births in both genders and all races. It is characterized by
hypotonia (low muscle tone), hyperphagia (uncontrollable hunger), cognitive impairments, and
difficult behaviors. It is the most common genetic cause of obesity. ("Prader-Willi Syndrome
Association (USA)", 2014). Individuals diagnosed with Prader-Willi Syndrome must have a very
structured environment where they can live and work while having their health and safety needs
met. Academic Help

Review the various Tutorials and Guides offered through the Center for Writing Excellence.
Which ones do you feel will be most helpful to your academic career? Why?
There are many resources that I think will be a saving grace for me I think Writing & Style
Guidelines. This will help me to refamiliarize myself with the expectations of what I need to
include in my papers. Also avoiding plagiarism will be a very helpful tool for me, this is
partly due to my difficulty with the proper way to cite a reference. I tend to lean on the
citation generator provided by the university. I also fell that the software tutorials and guide
provided will be a great source of help.

QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION

13 Which section of the Student Web do you believe will have the most value to you as you
complete your program? How will it contribute to your success in graduate school?
I think there are many parts of the Student Web that will have add value, to choose
one I would have to say The Center for Writing Excellence. I find that I still struggle at time
with how to put a paper together. The Center for Writing Excellence will provide me with the
tools that I am going to need.
14 How can specific resources available on the Student Web help you manage your learning
experience at the University of Phoenix?
The one resource that will be beneficial in managing my learning experience is the
Calendar and having it synced to my phone and outlook. This will keep me up-to-date with
all of my tasks as I progress in my learning.
15 Discuss some techniques you may implement to manage the stress associated with returning
to school. Some techniques that I am going to implement are

Personal Time Out This will be utilized when I start to fell burned out or struggling
on a topic.

Communication This would involve me opening up and asking questions when I

am stuck and dont understand.

Contract A contract with my loved ones that will involve a cone of silence or do not
disturb order. This will take affect within certain times of the day. Monday through
Friday the times will be from 5pm 9pm and on the weekends I will ask to not be

bothered between the hours of 1pm -7pm. Not only will this give me enough time to
complete my assignments, it will also stop me from stressing over things.
I understand that I am still a work in progress and as time passes I may revise my techniques to
add or subtract things, but as I told my family it is a start and at the end we will all be winners.
