Instructions for Accompanists, Spring 2016

Semester:
1. Time cards are due by the 15th of the month and need to be turned in to Dr.
Christian for her signature. Please be specific as possible about whether you were in
a rehearsal with the student, a lesson with the teacher, or playing for a performance
(i.e. a student recital). If youre not sure what belongs on the time card, please
ask.*
2. Staff accompanists are asked to come to 30 minutes of students 1-hour lessons,
but not to come to half hour lessons unless the instructor specifically requests that
they be there. (They will still rehearse for half an hour a week with students, but
they will be only paid for half an hour a week for students who are enrolled in 1
credit lessons.)

(Student accompanists: you are required to come to every lesson of your assigned
student, and if you cant make it, you are expected to let both the student and the
teacher know that you will be missing the lesson).
3. You and the students are responsible for setting up weekly rehearsals; they
should be hour rehearsals whether the student has 30 minute lessons or 1-hour
lessons.
4. Please be available to play for student recitals on select Wednesdays throughout
the semester, all at 4 pm. There are seven Student Recitals during the Fall 2015
semester. The dates are: September 9, September 30, October 14, October 28,
November 4, November 11, and December 2.
*Attention student accompanists: practicing accompanying music, rehearsing
with students, and the time you spend playing in lessons is all to be done on the
clock. Please sign in on the accompanist sign-out sheet in the office so the other
music workers know where you are.

One-hour students (2 credits): one half hour rehearsal per week, plus the last 30
min. of their lesson
Half-hour students (1 credit): one half hour rehearsal per week, or 15 min
rehearsal and 15 min in lessons
Policies regarding payment.

One hour a week of accompanying time is allotted for vocal students enrolled
in 1- hour lessons, and half an hour a week for students enrolled in 30-minute
lessons. If you practice more than that, you will not get paid for the extra
time without receiving special approval.

For instrumental lessons, both rehearsals and playing in lessons should be

worked out on an as-needed basis and with the instructor's input, request and
consent. Please double check before showing up to lessons.

Accompanists are not paid for personal practice or for other accompanyingrelated work such as photocopying, scheduling, or e-mailing.
