SYSTEM DESIGN DESCRIPTION


LOW TEMPERATURE COOLING WATER
1.0

INTRODUCTION
This document presents a detailed description of the Low Temperature Water System for the 215
MW Bauang Diesel Power Plant. It includes the functions, criteria requirements, details of
components, instruments and controls, modes of operation and maintenance requirement for the
system.

1.1

System Function
The Low Temperature Water System provides the cooling requirement of Lube Oil Cooler, Charge
Air Cooler (2nd stage), Injector Water Cooler, Steam Drain Condenser. It also supplies water for
turbocharger washing operation.

Summary Description of the System


The Low Temperature Water System is a closed-type circuit and is divided into two (2) subsystems; a) Cooling System for Lube Oil Cooler (23E1), Charge Air Cooler (2nd stage) and
Injector Water Cooler (22E2). b) Cooling System for steam condensates recovery. The system also
supplies water during turbocharger washing operation.
1.3.1

The cooling system for engine auxiliaries is composed of LT Water Pump (19P1), Radiator
(19/21E) and LT Water Expansion Tank (19V1). Pipings, valves, instruments and control
are also provided for the system. During normal operation water is circulated by pump
(19P1) and flows to Charge Air Cooler (2nd stage), Injector Water Cooler (22E2) and Lube
Oil Cooler (23E1). The water then flows out of the engine auxiliaries and then cooled in the
radiator (19/21E1). LT Water Expansion Tank (19V1) ensures the circuit expansion and
the losses compensation. The venting holes of the Charge Air Cooler (2nd stage) are
connected with the expansion tank (19V1) bottom side via flow orifices.

1.3.2

Steam condensates recovery cooling system is composed of Water Cooling Condensate


Pump (0-19P1), Condensate Cooling Radiator (0-19E1), Condensate Water Expansion
Tank (0-19V1), pipings, valves, instruments and controls. Steam condensates that enter the
Steam Drain Condenser (0-32E2) is being cooled by the water circulated by pump (0-19P1).
Water then flows out of the condenser and enters the condensate radiator fan (0-19E1)
where it is cooled. Expansion tank (0-19V1) ensures the correct expansion and losses
compensation of the system. Make-up water is supplied by line 0-17-001-50-2 from Water
Treatment and Make-up Water System.

Controls
The LT Water Pump (19P1), Radiator (19/21E1), Water Cooling Condensate Pump (019P1) and Condensate Cooling Radiator (0-19E1) can be started/ stopped from the Local
Control Panel, BJ Panel, OCW Panel and OIS console.

Starting/stopping the pump/radiator from local control panel, the mode selector switch is
placed in LOCAL and press ON/OFF pushbutton switch.
In the BJ panel, each pump/radiator is provided with OFF-RUN-START control switch and
RUN/FAULT indicating lights. To start/stop the pump, the local control panel mode
selector is placed to REMOTE and placing the control switch to START/OFF position.
Operating the pump/radiator through OCW panel, the OCW selector switch should be in
LCO position, BJ control switch in RUN position and local control panel switch to
REMOTE position before pressing the Auxiliary Sequence Stop or Start pushbutton.
The pump/radiator can also be started/stopped at OIS console by placing the OCW selector
switch to RCO position, BJ control switch in RUN position and local control panel switch to
REMOTE position.

The following illuminated annunciators are provided at the OCW.

3.0

MODES OF OPERATION

3.1

Start-up
The system is prepared for startup by performing valve lineups and checking circuit general
condition. Ensure that expansion tank (19V1) is in normal level through level indicator (LI 19101).
The pump (19P1) will be started at BJ panel. The circuit must be vented and checked for leaks.

3.2

Normal Operation
During normal operation, periodic checking/monitoring of LT water pump (19P1), water cooling
condensate pump (0-19P1) expansion tank level (19V1) and related instruments is necessary.
Unusual sound or heavy vibration on motors and pumps are also monitored for early detection of
abnormalities.

Shutdown

The system can be shutdown depending on the condition of the main engine. If the engine will not
be available for one to five hours after shutdown, the radiator fans (19/21E1) is stopped by pressing
push button OFF in its local control panel. Consequently, stop the LT water pump (19P1) by
placing its control switch to OFF position.

4.0

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
No special hazards are considered to exist in this system beyond those associated with work near the
rotating equipment and heated boundaries.

5.0

MAINTENANCE
All instrumentations, controls and alarm components shall be tested and calibrated at regular
intervals. Manufacturer's recommendations for Preventive Maintenance and inspection should be
the minimum basis.
