1. Unzip the "QUAL2E (Win 2000).zip" file into a new directory, preferably c:\qual2e.
The directory structure includes a root directory (e.g., qual2e) and a subdirectory
called 'prog' (e.g., qual2e\prog). The root directory contains data files and the
prog directory contains the program files.
2. Copy the files GSW.exe and GSWdll.dll from the qual2e\prog folder into the
%Systemroot%\System32 directory (this is usually WinNT\System32).
4. Change the Path System Variable to include paths to the Qual2e root directory
and Qual2e\prog directory. To do this: * Under Environment Variables, System
Variables (in WinNT, just System Variables), Select the Path variable, Click on
Edit (in WinNT, there is no Edit button, just edit the value)... * At the end of the
statement Add ";c:\qual2e;c:\qual2e\prog" (do not include the quotes, and modify
the path accordingly if you extracted the zipped files to something other than
c:), Click OK. * Click OK to all of the open windows to close them and get out of
the Properties setup.
5. In Explorer, right-click on the Wqual2ex short cut (in the PROG folder) and select
Properties. Go to Programs and change %Ql2dir... to %q2edir... in both the Cmd
line and the Working line.
6. Move the Qual2e shortcut (qual2e.lnk) from the Qual2e folder to where you want
to run it from, for example, the desktop.
7. Now, you can simply click on the shortcut to run QUAL2E. Use one of the three
test files in the Qual2e directory to test it. If the program does not produce or
cannot locate the output file, check to make sure you followed the above
instructions correctly, and reboot your computer.
While the QUAL2E Windows interface does appear to work fine in both NT and 2000, the
QUAL2E graphics program appears to work only in Windows 2000.
This application modification was made by Robert G. Traver, Ph.D., PE, of Villanova
University. What he did was to redo all the batch files and shortcuts so they worked in
Windows 2000 and Windows NT. He had to redo the config.sys and autoexec.bat files to
do this, and modify the compatibility codes using trial and error. For further
information, contact Dr. Traver at: Robert G. Traver, Ph.D., PE Department of Civil Eng.
