In partial fulfillment for

the award of the degree of
BACHELOR OF PETROLEUM ENGINEERING

PREFACE

Inplant training plays a vital role in the progress of future engineers.

Not only does it provide insights about the industry concerned, it also bridges
the gap between theory and practical knowledge. We was fortunate that we
was provided with an opportunity of undergoing Inplant training at ONGC,
Karaikal, SST, Cauvery Asset. The experience gained during this short period
was fascinating to say the least. It was a tremendous feeling to observe the
operation of different equipments and processes. It was overwhelming for us
to notice how such a big plant is being monitored and operated with proper
co-ordination to obtain desired results. During my training I realized that in
order to be a successful petroleum engineer one needs to possess a sound
theoretical base along with the acumen for effective practical application of
the theory. Thus, We hope that this inplant training serves as a stepping stone
for us in future and help me carve a niche for us in this field.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
Our indebtedness and gratitude to the many individuals who have
helped to shape this report in its present form cannot be adequately conveyed
in just a few sentences. Yet we must record my immense gratitude to those
who helped me undergo this valuable learning experience at ONGC, Sub
Surface Team, Karaikal.
We take this opportunity to thank all those people who have made
this experience a memorable one. We heartily thankful to Shri. A. Jayasekran
GM (Res.) - Sub Surface Management and Shri. S. Dhanapaul CM (Res.),
SST for their co-operation and proper guidance during my training. We thank
Mr. Srikanth, AEE (Res.) for allotting an arrangement through the whole
training period.
We would also like to thank all the faculties who helped me in
completing my training which mentioned in Training Schedule.

ONGC INTERNSHIP REPORT

ONGC Cauvery Asset, Karaikal
Training Date :

28-12-15 to

01-01-16

Name of the Area : Neravy

Division : Sub surface
Dealing with : Development well
Introduction:
ONGC Cauvery Asset started at 1965 and drilled its first well at
karaikal in the year of 1985,which pproduced 5bbl/day currently
this asset has 709 wellls which includes both oil and Gas wells.
The average depth of wella are around 1500 m 2500 m. We
have 4 Offshore fields and 7 onshore Fields Cauvery Asset is the
largest producer of gas in Onshore
Cavuery basin : Pondicherry to Ramnad

Basic Geology
Types of Rock
Source rock:
Source rock refer to the rock from which Hydrocarbons have been
generated are capable of being generated.
mainly source rock are Shale based.

Migration:

Migration is the moment of HC from source rock to the reservoir

rock
Types : 1. Primary Migration
2. Secondary Migration

Reservoir rock:
Reservoir rock is the pool or storage for the accumulation of
migrated HC
mainly reservoir rocks are Sandstone and Carbonate
(Limestone+Dolomite)

Cap rock:
Cap rock is the impermeable rock which stops are seals the
further moment of HC

Trap:
Trap is the porous data in which gas, oil, water may accumulate.
Types :
1.Structural Trap
2. Stratigraphical Trap
3.Combination Trap
