A Trip to Liverpool FC: Unforgettable Moment

Everybody must have something that they would remember for the rest of
their life. As for me, the most memorable thing in my life was when I got the chance
to watch my favourite football team, Liverpool FC, played live at Liverpool, England.
They were against Manchester United FC at that moment. I would like to relive the
experience by describing it to you once again.
Day by day I waited; the day finally arrived for me to embark on a journey to
Liverpool, England. Believe it or not, I had waited for this day for almost a year as I
was saving the money for this trip on my own. I would say that I was one of the
luckiest persons that got the chance to attend for the final match of Barclays Premier
League. I asked for my friends favour, who was studying in England to buy me the
ticket for the game.
On that day, I departed from Alor Setar Airport about 7.00 a.m. after my father
personally took me to the airport. I arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport
(KLIA) an hour later. Since I was on my own, I was a bit nervous during this trip. My
flight to England was at noon and since I had some time before checking-in, I went to
the nearest cafeteria for a quick bite. Two hours before the flight, I rushed to the
counter to check-in. There was a long queue at the counter for the flight as I will be
going via the latest aircraft by Malaysia Airlines, which is the Airbus A380 Super
Jumbo.
The journey to the United Kingdom took about 13 hours which was the
longest journey Ive ever experienced so far. When I arrived at the Heathrow Airport,
the weather was quite nice as it was summer time. Therefore, I did not bring thick
clothes as my friend informed it was not necessary. I was very nervous and at the
same time excited as I stepped out from the aircraft. Passing through the UK
immigration was a quite terrifying experience for me as they asked me a number of
questions of my intention of coming to the country. Luckily, my English was quite
good and I was able to give necessary answers to them.
After I passed through the security, my friend was waiting for me to pick me
up. I stayed at his accommodation with some other Malaysian students who were
studying there. They were very nice and friendly and I felt very welcomed. I was
quite exhausted when I arrived at the accommodation and I fell asleep due the long
journey. As I slept, I dreamt of going to the match already although it was still two
days before the actual match.
My friend took me to me for a sight-seeing near the area. I visited my friends
university and a few interesting places which was very beautiful. The local people
were also friendly and helpful when we asked for direction to go anywhere. We went
to a number of Halal restaurants which were managed by Pakistani people that
stayed at the country for quite some time.

The day of the match has finally arrived as we had to go out as early as 5
hours before the game. My friend said that it was normal for people to attend that
early for the high-profile game. We took a bus to Liverpool and as we walked to the
stadium, I could see other supporters in red shirts marching to the stadium while
singing the Liverpool Youll Never Walk Alone anthem. There were also supporters
from All the Reds fan club who were very energetic waving the Reds flags in front
of my eyes which made me very ecstatic for the game. I sang along with them to get
into the spirit.
We took our seat near the grand stand where I had a clear view of the game.
Trust me when I said it costed quite a fortune for these seats. Around three oclock in
the afternoon, the referee blew the whistle to commence the match. Both teams had
put on their blood and sweat to obtain a goal for the first half. However, they showed
a high quality defending game. It was very hard to penetrate the defence of
Manchester United which was lined by famous players like Nemanja Vidic, Rio
Ferdinand and many more. The first half ended with both teams were not able to
score any goal.
The second-half started with both teams speeding up the pace of the game to
look for a goal. In the 75th minute, Wayne Rooney of Manchester United got the
golden opportunity after receiving a through pass from Ryan Giggs. The defenders of
Liverpool let their guard down as Rooney managed to slip through them and scored
a wonderful goal that could not be stopped by the Liverpools goalie, Reina. The
visitors were cheering their hearts out as their team managed to score the first goal.
The goal was a wake-up call for the Reds as they started to double up the attack.
The striker, Luis Suarez acquired a golden moment to even the score in the 87 th
minute, as he was tackled inside the penalty box. The referee awarded him with a
penalty. The environment in the stadium suddenly became quiet where all eyes were
on Suarez. At that moment, it was between him and the United goalie, De Gea, the
one who could stop him from equalised. It was a moment of truth when Suarez
began his run towards the ball and tried to place it on the right corner of the goal
post. De Gea sensed the direction of the ball and denied it from going in.
Our hope was lost when we had to see the best chance to drag the game into
the extra time slipped. We were very disappointed with the result that ended with
United was crowned as champion of the BPL for that season. Nevertheless, it was
still a wonderful experience for me where I was able to witness the historic moment
in the football history.
