Welcome to WipConfig PDA

Airspans WipConfig PDA program is a configuration tool designed to run on
personal digital assistants (PDA). WipConfig PDA allows you to perform initial
configurations on ASWipLL devices, eliminating the need for a PC, and thereby,
making configuration a quick and easy process.
WipConfig PDA allows you to connect to the ASWipLL device through a serial or
network (IP) communication path. The network communication path uses SNMP for
SET and GET processes.
WipConfig PDA provides you with a graph displaying real-time Received Signal
Strength Indicator (RSSI) measurements. Thus, WipConfig PDA allows you to
effectively position ASWipLL devices for optimum radio signal reception.
WipConfig PDA allows you to save your configuration settings for later use.
Therefore, you can quickly apply configuration settings to multiple devices requiring
similar configuration settings.

Purpose of this Guide

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for using WipConfig PDA. This
includes, for example, instructions for connecting the PDA running WipConfig
PDA to ASWipLL devices, defining configuration parameters, saving and opening
configuration files, and viewing RSSI graphs.

Targeted Audience
This guide is intended for the person who is responsible for performing initial
configuring of the ASWipLL devices.

Installing WipConfig PDA
This chapter describes the procedures for installing WipConfig PDA on a personal
digital assistant (PDA).
This chapter includes the following sections:
! Overview
! Installing Microsoft ActiveSync
! Connecting and Synchronizing PDA to and with your PC
! Installing WipConfig PDA on the PDA

1.1. Overview
WipConfig PDA is designed to run on a PDA. The installation of WipConfig PDA
on the PDA is performed using Microsoft ActiveSync, which connects and
synchronizes the PDA to and with a PC.
The procedural steps for installing WipConfig PDA on your PDA includes the
following procedures, listed in chronological order:
! Installing Microsoft ActiveSync on your PC
! Connecting and synchronizing the PDA to and with your PC
! Installing WipConfig PDA on your PDA

1.2. Installing Microsoft ActiveSync

Before you can install WipConfig PDA on your PDA, you need to install
Microsoft ActiveSync on your PC. Microsoft ActiveSync allows you to
connect and synchronize the PDA to and with your PC.
Note: If Microsoft ActiveSync is already installed on your PC, skip to
Section 1.3, Connecting and Synchronizing PDA to and with your PC.

To install Microsoft ActiveSync on your PC:

1. Insert the Microsoft ActiveSync CD in your CD-ROM drive.
2. On the Windows taskbar, click Start, and then choose Run.
3. Type D:\MSASYNC.EXE (where D is the letter of your CD-ROM drive letter)
4. Click OK.

you can apply some of the default configuration parameters. When you apply only
some of the default configuration settings, parameters that are crucial to the devices
network identification and communication are retained, such as IP address.
Table 2-4 lists the factory defaults.

Connecting to a Device
This chapter describes the procedures for connecting and disconnecting WipConfig
PDA to and from an ASWipLL device, respectively.
This chapter includes the following sections:
! Overview
! Connecting WipConfig PDA to the ASWipLL Device
! Disconnecting WipConfig PDA from the ASWipLL Device

Note: For cabling the PDA running WipConfig PDA to the ASWipLL device,
see Appendix B, Cable Connections.

3.1. Overview
The PDA running WipConfig PDA can be connected to the ASWipLL device by a
serial or network communication mode. Serial connection allows you to perform
initial configuration by defining the devices IP address. Network connection allows
you to configure advanced parameters essential for establishing the air link as well
as configure parameters that facilitate commissioning of ASWipLL devices. The
network connection uses SNMP to set the configuration parameters.

ASWipLL Device
Once you have connected the cables between the PDA running WipConfig PDA and
the ASWipLL device (see Appendix B, Connecting the Cables), you can connect
WipConfig PDA to the device through the a communication mode, i.e. serial or IP.
To connect WipConfig PDA to the ASWipLL device:
1. On your PDA, start WipConfig PDA.

Cable Connections
This appendix describes the cabling between the ASWipLL devices and the PDA
running WipConfigPDA. The cabling includes serial and local network cabling.

8.1. Serial Cabling

The following subsections describe serial cabling between the PDA running
WipConfigPDA and the ASWipLL devices.

8.1.1. BSR and PPR

The BSR/PPR provides a serial port for RS-232 serial interface to a PDA. Table 8-1
describes the cable, connectors, and pinouts for BSR-to-PDA serial cabling.

1. Connect the 9-pin D-type male connector, at one end of the serial cable, to the
BSRs serial port, labeled Serial.
2. Connect the other connector, at the other end of the serial cable to the PDA.
Note: Ensure that the BSR remains connected to the BSDU/SDA (i.e. the
BSRs 15-pin D-type port remains connected to the BSDUs/SDAs 15-pin Dtype port).

8.2. Local Network (IP) Connections

For network (IP) configurations, you can connect the PDA to the ASWipLL devices
local network port, or remotely if you have IP connectivity to the device.
When connecting the PDA to the ASWipLL devices local port, the cable
connection depends on the type of device.

8.2.1. BSR and PPR

The PDA-to-BSR local network cabling depends on the BSR configuration. If the
BSR is connected to an SPR, then refer to Section 8.2.2, SPR. If the BSR is
connected to a BSDU, then refer to Section 8.2.4, BSDU.

8.2.2. SPR
The SPR-to-PDA local network cabling is performed by connecting the PDA to the
SDA (which is connected to the SPR). The PDA connects to the SDAs Ethernet
port.
Note: The SPR-to-PDA local network connection is the same for BSRs that
are connected to SDAs.

The SPR-to-PDA local network cabling is described in the table below.

To connect the SPR to a PDA through a local network (see Figure 8-5):
1. Connect the Ethernet connector, at one end of the straight-through cable, to the
PDAs Ethernet port.
2. Connect the RJ-45 connector, at the other end of the straight-through cable, to
the SDAs Ethernet port.
Note: Ensure that the SDA remains connected to the SPR.

8.2.4. BSDU
The BSDU-to-PDA local network (IP) cabling is performed by connecting the PDA
to the BSDUs 10BaseT or 100BaseT port. If the BSDUs two 10BaseT ports are
connected to one another by a crossover cable, then the PDA connects to one of the
BSDUs 100BaseT ports. If the two BSDU 10BaseT ports are not connected to one
another, then the PDA connects to the BSDUs right-most 10BaseT port (labeled
10Base-T 2).
The BSDU-to-PDA local network cable connections (on the BSDU side) are
described in the following tables:

2. Connector the RJ-45 connector, at the other end of straight-through cable, to the
BSDUs 10Base-T port labeled 2 (see Figure 8-7),
