Introduction
Introduction
1.1 Securiterre
The Model 870 Securiterre is a grounding system for loading gantries that offers improved safety during the
transfer of flammable liquids. It ensures that reliable grounding has been achieved before any product
transfer can take place. It is an indispensable item for every loading facility of flammable non-conducting
liquids and powders of pellets.
Electrostatic charge can be generated and accumulated during pumping, filtering and loading of tank
compartments with non-conducting liquids such as petroleum products and chemicals. As a result, the tank
obtains a different potential than the loading equipment. This can lead to sparking when for example the
loading arm is brought in, igniting the product vapors.
1.2 Securistore
The Enraf Securistore is a reliable cable dispenser, provided with a low-capacitance neoprene cable with a
length of 15 m and an earth clamp with break-release. The break-release as such prevents cable and
Securistore raptures in case of driver departure with still clamped on clamps. The dispenser is fitted with a
return spring to rewind the cable automatically after use.
1.3.2 Train version (also for small ships without cathodic protection)
After connection of the grounding clamp to the object (train wagon or ship), the Securiterre measures the
resistance of the object to ground (max 1 K). After verification of the maximum resistance to ground, a
relay connects the measuring circuit directly to ground. Another relay switches the signal lamp to green and
switches an extra contact to externally mounted equipment.
Page 6
Introduction
1.3.3 Drum version
The drum version uses a double isolated ground clamp. The Securiterre measures the resistance over the
poles of the clamp (max. 3 ). After verification of the maximum resistance to ground, a relay connects the
measuring circuit direct to ground. Another relay switches the signal lamp to green and switches an extra
contact to externally mounted equipment.
Page 7
Safety
Safety
The Securiterre complies with European Standards EN 50.014, EN 50.018, and EN 50.020 and is ATEX
certified as EEx d [ia] ia IIC T6 acc. to LCIE France.
Caution
The Securiterre is an explosion proof instrument with intrinsically safe output/input circuits.
Modifications to the instrument may only be carried out by trained personnel which is authorized by Enraf.
Failure to adhere to this will invalidate the approval certificates.
Caution
The Securiterre may be installed in hazardous areas. The classification of the hazardous area may
vary with the optional functions of the Securiterre and per approval certificate.
Before starting installation, check whether the actual area of installation complies with the area
classification on the applicable approval certificate for your type of Securiterre.

Unpacking
3.1 Storage
During storage, the Securiterre should preferably be kept in its original packing and stored indoors.
When the Securiterre has already been installed on site and will be out of operation for a prolonged period, it
is recommended to keep the mains on. When this is not possible, put some moisture-absorbing material such
as silica gel in the electronic compartment of the Securiterre.

Installation
The Securiterre is designed to be installed in a hazardous area and to operate under extreme ambient
temperatures. It does not require any special protection.
Caution
The Securiterre may be installed in hazardous areas. The classification of the hazardous area may
vary with the optional functions of the Securiterre and per approval certificate.
Before starting installation, check whether the actual area of installation complies with the area
classification on the applicable approval certificate for your type of Securiterre.
Caution
Before opening the covers, do not forget to remove the blocking device (Refer to Appendix A).
Keeps threads of covers and Securiterre free from dirt.
Grease them lightly with an acid free grease after the Securiterre has been opened.
When closing, never tighten the covers before the threads are properly engaged.
The covers should be turned counterclockwise until the thread clicks into place,
then turn clockwise until the covers are fully closed.
After closing the covers, do not forget to place the blocking device.
The terminal box is fitted with two threaded explosion proof glands of 3/4" NPT.
The explosion proof box is fitted with one 3/4" NPT entry and fitted with an explosion proof gland for the blue
measuring cable.

connect the grounding. This must be done before making any other connection.
Wait a few seconds for the release (green LEDs on)
Note:
To achieve correct grounding conditions, the cable gland must be properly connected. If there is no
release after a few seconds (red LEDs on), check the earth connection. It should be clean and rust free.
If in case of the tank truck version of Securiterre, the impedance cannot be measured because of
excessive humidity or the presence of brine, a magnetically operated bypass can be activated to
establish the initial grounding. Place the brine magnet on the red dot on the Securiterre outside.
The instrument should now respond within 0.5 second.
Warning
Before starting a transfer it is imperative that the object is properly earthed and that
electrostatic charges are safely diverted to ground in order to prevent the generation of sparks
which could cause an explosion.
Page 13
The instrument is adjusted in the factory and is carefully tested before shipping. Hence installation without
any adjustments is possible after receipt of the instrument. After replacement of the measuring cable or for
special applications readjustments may be required. Check the instrument thoroughly before starting a
readjustment procedure.
Warning
All covers must be closed before switching on the electrical power.
2.
3.
Switch on the power. Make sure that the ground connection to the housing is made.
4.
The two orange LEDs L1(12 V), L2 (12 V) and the red clusters of LEDs are lighted. Check.
5.
Connect a resistor of 820 in parallel to a capacitor of 1000 pF between the clamp and earth
(from Securiterre). The Securiterre should not operate.
6.
Slowly turn potentiometer R5 clockwise until the instrument just operates (green LEDs are switched on).
From that point, turn R5 three full turns clockwise.
7.
8.
Reconnect the clamp to earth, the instrument should not operate. (Red LEDs on).
Connect the grounding clamp to a resistor of 820 (without the parallel capacitor).
The instrument should not operate (red LEDs on).
2.
Replace the resistor of 820 by a resistor of 470 parallel to a capacitor of 1000 pF.
The instrument should not operate (red LEDs on).
