DEEP SPACE
Billions of specs GLOW and TWINKLE. A LARGE PLANET--EMINIAR
7 is seen in the distance. A FLASH of light and--
REVEAL--the USS ENTERPRISE drops out of WARP SPEED-- faint
BEEPING can be heard.
WE CUT TO:
INT. USS ENTERPRISE - BRIDGE
KIRK seated in his chair SWIVELING it SLIGHTLY and looked
FRUSTRATED.
SULU
All stopped sir. Holding position.
Mark two-eighty degrees from the
moon's trajectory.
SULU is at the HELM, DE THROTTLING the ships WARP NACELLES.
CHEKOV is seated next to SULU at the Navigation control.
SWISH--THE TURBO LIFT DOORS OPEN--AMBASSADOR FOX emerges and
steps further into the bridge approaching KIRK.
KIRK turns to listen to FOX--
FOX
Why have we stopped?
KIRK
We have not received a reply to our
request to approach.
(turns to Spock)
Mr. Spock...report.
SPOCK is seated at his station, he turns to Kirk.
SPOCK
The planet has a composition
similar to earth...
FADE TO:
INT. EMINIAN COUNCIL CHAMBER - DAY
The chamber doors SWING open violently as MEA 3 enters--
MEA 3
There is a starship approaching...
ANAN 7 seated at the center seat of the council leaps from
his chair worriedly and enters an hurriedly adjacent
doorway. The rest of the council follows, curious of the
incident.
INT. COMPUTER ROOM
A large room with a central computer, heavily advanced with
intricate detail. The computer has several panel-like
screens that display maps of cities and locations on Eminiar
and a neighboring planet Vendikar.
ANAN 7 approaches. Two men, officers, are busily controlling
the machine. The screens change to reveal the Enterprise,
now in orbit with Eminiar.
MEA 3 looks to ANAN 7 worriedly.
A red flash appears on the screen--indicating an attack, yet
no weapons are fired.
One soldier turns to ANAN 7--
OFFICER 1
Sir, they've been hit with a
Pulse-beam...an attack by Vendikar.
MEA 3 gasps in horror.
ANAN 7
They were told to stay away, now,
they must face the consequences of
their actions.
MEA 3 turns to Anan 7--
MEA 3
What are you going to do?
She turns to Anan 7, who is staring at the screen boldly.
ANAN 7
This is a time of war...I will do
what is necessary.

INT. USS ENTERPRISE - BRIDGE
KIRK narrates as the crew and Ambassador Fox watch eagerly
as the ship approaches the planet's outer atmosphere.
KIRK(V.O)
Captain's log, Stardate thirty-one
ninety-two point five. By order of
federation peace ambassador Robert
Fox, we are approaching a
potentially dangerous planet
attempting to gain political
grounds. Unsure of what will come,
we can only hope for the best.
SPOCK is busily working at his station. KIRK gets up from
his chair a steps over to Spock--
KIRK
Anything yet?
SPOCK
We know little about them captain.
They have had warp-flight for
centuries, yet they have not
ventured farther than their own
solar system.
KIRK
So they're advanced. What about
their culture? Peaceful?
Aggressive?
SPOCK
The first contact with this
species, about fifty years ago,
indicated that they were at war
with the third planet in this
system. Such war seems to have
ceased. I detect no weapon
radiation or damage.
KIRK
Anything else?
SPOCK
The USS Valiant, which made that
first contact, failed to return
from it's mission here...It was
listed as missing in space. There
seems to be no hostilities toward
us.
The Turbo-lift doors opens as AMBASSADOR FOX emerges. He
turns to KIRK immediately.
FOX
I will require only one personal
guard to accompany me, captain.
KIRK
You will not leave the ship.
FOX
What? Captain you have my orders...
KIRK
You will not beam down until I know
what kind of reception you will
receive. Your protection is my
responsibility, those are my
orders.
Turns to Spock--
KIRK (CONT'D)
Mr. Spock, Come with me.
They walk over to the turbo-lift. Kirk turns to Uhura.
KIRK
(to Uhura)
Notify the transporter room and
have Lieutenants Galloway and
Tamera meet us there.
UHURA
yes sir--
She activates her communications--
UHURA
(into communication panel)
Transporter room, stand by.
