Game Commentary
Submitted by Doug Klein: In the showdown between Colorado's 4th and 5th ranked teams (Denver Post/9 News poll), Pine Creek (5th) scored
the only league goal allowed all season by Air Academy (4th) and it held up as the host Eagles ensured themselves the top seed out of the Colorado
Springs (5A) Metro League going into the State playoffs with the 1-0 win. The match lived up to its billing as the two stingy defenses did their
jobs allowing only 8 shots on goal for the match (5 Pine Creek, 3 Air Academy); there were no shortage of chances as the attacks fought hard to
create opportunities around the 18 before the backlines tightened up.

The breakthrough came in the 66th minute when junior Brandi Farley found team and league scoring leader, Carolyn Simon, breaking through the
back line; Simon collected the ball and placed a perfect shot along the ground inside the far post past goalkeeper, Sarah Tanous (1GA, 4SV, 80
min). Simon, who will play for the University of Tampa in the fall, celebrated the goal before her parents and an appreciative crowd on Pine
Creek's senior night; the score was her 20th of the season tying the Eagle mark for goals in a season that has stood since 2002.

The Kadets best chance at the equalizer came just minutes later when junior, Whitney Morin, chased down a cross near the penalty mark, she
played the bounce off the artificial turf with her chest and the redirection went just wide. Pine Creek netminder, Carmen McDermott recorded her
7th shutout of the season and defended her area extremely well adding 12 tackles (takeaways) to her 3 saves.

With the victory, the Eagles remain undefeated in the conference (7-0-0, 13-2-0 overall) with their final regular season and league match coming up
Wednesday afternoon at D-20 Stadium when they play the host Liberty Lancers. The Eagles are looking for the outright league championship with
a win or tie, but the Lancers want the win as they try to lock down 3rd place in the league. With the loss, the Kadets (7-1-0, 12-3-0 overall) will be
the 2nd seed out of the league going into the State playoffs and could be league co-champions should the Lancers beat the Eagles.
