Classroom interaction:

What are the contributing factors lead Malaysia students to less classroom interaction.

In the learning process between educators and learners should be an interaction. Education
is essentially an interaction between educators and learners, in order to achieve the goals of
education, which takes place in a specific environment. This environment is regulated and
supervised so that learning activities directed to the goal of education. Education helps students to
develop themselves. Example, the development of all the potential, skills, and personal
characteristics in a positive direction, both for themselves and for their environment.
There are some factors lead Malaysia students to less classroom interaction. First factor is
the negative teacher traits. Negative lecturer traits like having poor teaching skills, being impatient
and unapproachable deter students from participation. Teacher keep teaching without looking to
the student or ask anything to the student make them feel bored and make them feel dont
participating in classroom. In addition, the teachers who were not approachable or showed hostility
made the student less interaction in classroom.
Second factor is negative classroom traits. The ways some students behave in class affect
the interaction of other students. Having classmate who do not know when to keep quiet make
them less interaction in classroom because too many students and the noise make them difficult to
concentrate. The noise make them feel disturbing and hampering their concentration to the extent
that it made contributing to the class discussion difficult for them. Other classmates traits that
influence were creating disturbances, teasing, monopolizing and not being cooperative or patient.
Third, negative student traits. Some of the students are afraid of making mistakes make
them less interaction in classroom. For example in English class, they scared if their pronunciation is
wrong and others cants understand them. These students were concerned and wanted to avoid
making mistakes as they did not want to feel embarrassed when speaking in class.
Non-conductive physical settings are fourth factors. For example, the size of the class is a bit
small and the tables are placed too near, so students who came late must sit at the back. Rather far
from the front so make them difficult to hear and see whats going in front make they less
interaction to the teachers. The physical layout of the classroom like cramped class and a large
number of students in class as influence the student interaction in classroom.

Fifth, uninteresting and difficult class content. The student faced difficulties in
understanding class content that was difficult and they lost focus when it was uninteresting. For
example, they less interaction in classroom when it is a difficult topic so they will listen and will keep
quiet because they dont know what to say and still trying to understand.
Conclusion, the classmates and teachers play important roles in creating a classroom climate
for students to feel encourage or discourage interaction in classroom. Having classmates and
teachers with negative traits, personal problems, non-conductive physical setting, non-interesting or
difficult topic or making mistakes makes them less interaction classroom.
