The film is based on the life of Alexander the Great, king of Macedonia, who

conquered Asia Minor, Egypt, Persia and part of ancient India.

The film begins with the old King Ptolemy, telling the story of Alexander, who
served as a young general.
Alejandro is shown as a child witnesses the very tense relationship between her
parents, King Philip and Queen Olympias, a sorceress considered obsessed with
putting Alejandro against Philip instill their beliefs about the gods (even said that
Alexander's son Zeus, not Philip) and comparing it constantly Achilles, hero for
whom Alexander developed a great admiration.
Since childhood, Alexander proves to be a curious, sensitive and persevering man,
as evidenced by a seemingly tame untamed horse Bucephalus calling. Although
his mother tries to convince him otherwise, Alejandro tries to be close to his father,

father's dream of conquering the Persian Empire, during a campaign lasting

several years. After conquering Asia and proclaim himself king, Alexander and his
army faced the emperor Darius at the Battle of Gaugamela. The night before the
battle, Alexander and his close friend Hephaestion are compared to each other
with Achilles and Patroclus. When Hephaestion mentions that Patroclus died first,
Alejandro promises that if Hephaestion died, and then he would avenge her death.
In battle, Alexander's army defeats and Darius flees.
Alejandro and his family are made with the palace of Darius in Babylon, but started
a persecution against Darius, who later is asesiando by his own men. Despite his
love for Hephaestion, Alexander marries Roxana Asian princess, with the intention
of having an heir. While having sex with Alexander, Roxana jealous to see the
great friendship between them. Alejandro and his coming to India, where Alexander
has a big argument with your overall Clito, who would call into question and
becomes tyrant. In his outburst, Alejandro kills Clito with a spear, then repent and
withdraw into his shop a few days, being comforted by Hephaestion.
Although his men protest that they want to return home, Alejandro convinces them
to follow him in his last and bloodiest battle, the Battle of Hydaspes. Alexander was
wounded in battle (and his horse dies) but survives and celebrated. In Babylon,
Hephaistion succumbs to illness and dies, supposedly because he had typhus from
India. Mad with grief and rage, Alejandro is away from his wife (despite of this
pregnancy) because he thinks she has killed Hephaestion. He died less than three
months later, fulfilling the promise he made to Hephaistion. The last words of his
successor Alexander are an enigma, so a long war between his generals fought
until they were divided between them the great empire he had created Alejandro,
leaving Ptolemy pharaoh of Egypt as we see at the beginning film.
La pelcula est basada en la vida de Alejandro Magno, rey de Macedonia, que
conquist Asia Menor, Egipto, Persia y parte de la antigua India.

La pelcula comienza con el anciano faran Ptolomeo, contando la historia de

Alejandro, a quien de joven sirvi como general.
Se muestra como Alejandro desde nio es testigo de la tenssima relacin entre
sus padres, el rey Filipo y la reina Olimpia, considerada una hechicera y
obsesionada con poner a Alejandro contra Filipo, inculcarle sus creencias sobre
los dioses (llegando a decir que Alejandro es hijo de Zeus y no de Filipo) y
comparando a ste constantemente con Aquiles, hroe por quien Alejandro
desarrolla una gran admiracin. Desde nio, Alejandro demuestra ser un chico
curioso, sensible y perseverante, como demuestra al domar a un caballo
aparentemente indomable al que llama Bucfalo. A pesar de que su madre intenta
convencerle de lo contrario, Alejandro trata de estar unido a su padre, pero esto se
tuerce cuando teniendo Alejandro casi 20 aos, Filipo decide desposarse con la
macedonia Eurdice con quien est dispuesto a tener hijos, poniendo en peligro el
derecho al trono de Alejandro. Durante la celebracin, el to de Eurdice, talo,
propone un brindis por Filipo, Eurdice y los 'hijos legtimos' que tendrn estos,
provocando que Alejandro pierda los estribos y le tire una copa, provocando una
pelea. A pesar de su estado de ebriez, Filipo trata de poner orden y le ordena a
Alejandro que se disculpe ante talo, llegando a llamarle bastardo cuando este se
niega a obedecerle. Cuando un destrozado Alejandro se dispone a salir de la sala,
Filipo trata de salir tras l pero debido a su estado cae al suelo, provocando que
Alejandro diga 'Y este es el hombre que os llevar a la conquista del Imperio
Persa? Si ni siquiera es capaz de llegar de un lecho a otro', provocando la ira de
Filipo. Alejandro y Filipo posteriormente se reconcilian, pero Filipo es asesinado
por el guardia Pausanias (se sospecha que Olimpia ayud a planear el asesinato),
y en consecuencia Alejandro se convierte en rey de Macedonia con 20 aos.
Despus de castigar a algunas ciudades griegas por intentar sublevarse, Alejandro
se dispone a cumplir el sueo de su padre de conquistar el Imperio Persa, durante
una campaa que dur varios aos. Despus de conquistar Asia y proclamarse
faran, Alejandro y su ejrcito se enfrentan al emperador Daro en la Batalla de

Gaugamela. La noche antes de la batalla, Alejandro y su ntimo amigo Hefestin

se comparan el uno al otro con Aquiles y Patroclo. Cuando Hefestin menciona
que Patroclo muri primero, Alejandro promete que, si Hefestin muriese, l le
vengara y luego le seguira en la muerte. En la batalla, el ejrcito de Alejandro
vence y Daro huye.
Alejandro y los suyos se hacen con el palacio de Daro en Babilonia, pero inician
una persecucin contra Daro, quien posteriormente es asesiando por sus propios
hombres. A pesar de su amor por Hefestin, Alejandro se casa con la princesa
asitica Roxana, con la intencin de tener un heredero. Aunque mantiene
relaciones sexuales con Alejandro, Roxana siente celos al ver la gran amistad que
hay entre ellos. Alejandro y los suyos llegan a la India, donde Alejandro tiene una
gran discusin con su general Clito, quien le cuestiona y llega a llamarle tirano. En
su arrebato, Alejandro mata a Clito con una lanza, para luego arrepentirse y
encerrarse en su tienda unos das, siendo consolado por Hefestin.
A pesar de que sus hombres protestan, argumentando que quieren regresar a sus
hogares, Alejandro les convence para que le sigan en su ltima y ms sangrienta
batalla, la Batalla de Hydaspes. Alejandro es herido en la batalla (y su caballo
muere) pero sobrevive y se celebra. En Babilonia, Hefestin sucumbe a una
enfermedad y muere, supuestamente porque llevaba tifus desde la India. Loco de
dolor y rabia, Alejandro se distancia de su esposa (a pesar del embarazo de sta)
ya que cree que ella ha matado a Hefestin. l muere menos de 3 meses
despus, cumpliendo la promesa que le hizo a Hefestin. Las ltimas palabras de
Alejandro sobre su sucesor son un enigma, por lo que se libr una larga guerra
entre sus generales hasta que stos se dividieron entre ellos el gran imperio que
haba creado Alejandro, quedando Ptolomeo faran de Egipto tal y como lo vemos
al principio de la pelcula.
