The first flakes of this school year fell

earlier in the week, an official indication
that winter has arrived. As we move
farther into the month of December and the
winter solstice approaches, days become
shorter and the darkness of night becomes
nearly omnipresent. Many students arrive
before the crack of dawn and leave after
the sun has set. And while this might
seem depressing to some, think of it as just
another reminder that winter break is right
around the corner and yet another year
is coming to an end. Endings lead to new
beginnings, and the end of 2009 means the
beginning of a whole new decade. It also
means the end of the era in which many of
us grew up and the beginning of a whole
new chapter of our lives.
