Letter from Your Board Chair
Dear Valued Chamber Members,
We have exciting times ahead of us as the economic
reports are slowly starting to improve, and opportunities
for additional member benefits arise in several areas
including Chamber Partners, Metro South Chambers
Collaboration, and new insurance programs that you
will be hearing about soon. Not to mention the affordable
sponsorship opportunities available to promote your
business to large groups of people.
As I am sure you have heard by now John Crawford
has stepped down as the chamber President and CEO
effective April 16, 2010. We wish him the best of luck
in future endeavors and know that we will continue
to see him as a pillar in the community. His 13 years
of dedicated service to this chamber are valued and
appreciated by the board of directors, the members and
the community alike.
I would like to introduce you to the transition team
that is in place for the interim. There are 4 major areas
that need to be overseen. In order to manage this
chamber efficiently, I have appointed 2 board members
per each area. They are as follows: Lillian VanderVeen
and Tommy Brann will be overseeing our Community
Relations efforts; Danna Mathiesen and Bob O’Calllahan
will be over seeing our Membership Development; Rick
Chrisman and Dave Szidik will be heading up our IT
and Finance areas, and Carol Crawford and Betsy Artz
will be working on our Human Resources. Please feel
free to contact the board member specified if you have a
suggestion, concern or need during this transition. Your
patience during this time is much appreciated.
A CEO/President search committee is in place to decide
on a well qualified candidate. We would be glad to
add interested members to the process if you possess
the skills necessary to help in the replacement. Please
contact Carol Crawford at carol@tabmichigan.com for
more information.
As for now, it is business as usual at the chamber and we
could certainly use your help by referring us to vendors,
colleagues or friends that have yet to join the chamber.
Better yet, invite them to one of our upcoming events like
the 3rd Friday’s lunch or the South Kent Swing.

Volunteers and Sponsors Participate in Santa Parade
The 4th Annual WKACC Santa
Parade is scheduled for Saturday,
December 4, 2010 at 10:00 am and
WOTV's Maranda will be making
a guest appearance as our Grand
Marshall.

once again be available after the
parade at Brann's Steakhouse &
Grille on the parade route on S.
Division.
PARADES
The committe is looking for fun
loving volunteers to help organize
entrants and recruit sponsors from
the business and not-for-profit
community. To help on the planning
committee contact janine@southkent.

Sponsorships are available and
range from $1350 to $90 at
member rates. Not-yet-member
sponsorships and participation rates
are slightly higher than the fees for
members of WKACC.
Sponsorships include a spot in the
parade. We are looking for vehicles,
floats and mascots along with groups
that are willing to walk the route in
December. Get a group to carry your
company banner or enter a company
car.
Our 2009 parade had more than
50 entries. Kids, parents and
grandparents attended from all
over Kent County. Some of them
may have been your customers or
potential customers. The crowd
gets bigger every year as the
community begins to look forward
the this annual event. It is fast
becoming a family holiday tradition
in the Wyoming and Kentwood Area
Communities.

Grand Valley Metro Council will be hosting two public meetings to seek
comments on the Draft Fiscal Year 2011-2014 Transortation Improvement
Program (TIP) and an amendment to the 2035 Long Range Transportation
Plan (LRTP): Monday, May 3, 2010 at 5:00 pm to comment on the Draft
TIP list of projects and deficient road segments and Tuesday, May 4,
2010 at 5:00 pm to comment on the Air Quality Analysis results and
Environmental justice review, and 2035 LRTP Amendment. Both meeting are
