Course Description:
This course will teach the basics of engineering drawing and graphics from civil
engineering perspective through modern tools and methods. The class will cover
many aspects of technical drawing, engineering graphics and documentation
using lectures and lab sessions. The students will learn about principles of
engineering drawings, technical sketching, various projections, sectioning, basic
visualization skills, product modeling, architectural, structural and civil drawing
standards and dimensioning. The course also covers modern computer-aideddesign and building information modeling concepts related to civil engineering.

Grading: Homework and Lab assignments %70

Midterm %30
Midterm: There will be one midterm on April 13th at 16:40. It will cover
everything discussed in class and labs until that date. There will be a make-up
exam for the midterm.

Homework: Every week, there will be lab assignments to be performed during
the lab hours. For some weeks, there will be homework assignments with
specified due dates. Late homework assignments will be accepted with
percentage reduction of the HW grade for up to two late days. Homework
submissions will be in various forms on paper or as computer files. The
homework with the lowest grade will be dropped from grade calculation. More
information on the HW will be given during the lectures.

Each student must prepare and submit their own solutions to the instructor. It is
OK to discuss homework questions with other students but solutions prepared
on paper or computer should completely be the work of the individual student.

Scholastic Honesty: Violations of scholastic honesty include, but are not limited
to cheating, plagiarizing, fabricating information or citations, facilitating acts of
dishonesty by others, having unauthorized possession of examinations,
submitting work of another person or work previously used without informing
the instructor, or tampering with the academic work of other students. Any form
of scholastic dishonesty is a serious academic violation and will result in a
disciplinary action.

Attendance: There will be no formal attendance requirement. However,
students are highly encouraged to attend every class in order to keep up with the
content covered and succeed in the labs and homework.

Software: The software to be used in class is listed below. All of them are
available on lab computers. Students are also expected to register for an account
at students.autodesk.com and download and install the software on their
computers.
AutoCAD 2015
Autodesk Revit Architecture 2015
Autodesk Inventor 2015
Autodesk 3DS Max Design 2015

Students with disabilities: Reasonable accommodations will be made for
students with verifiable disabilities.

Statement of objectives:
Understand various types of views in an engineering drawing
Learn methods to perform technical sketching
Demonstrate abstract thinking and 3D visualization skills regarding
engineering drawing and drafting
Read and create architecture/engineering/construction drawings both on
paper and on computer
Apply methods to model architectural and mechanical elements using 2D
computer-aided-design and 3D parametric design software
Comprehend basics for using building information models for analysis
and visualization in architecture/engineering/construction workflow

Flexibility clause: Circumstances may arise during the course that prevents the
instructor from fulfilling each and every component of this syllabus; therefore,
the syllabus should be viewed as a guide and is subject to change. Students will
be notified prior to any changes.
